Book 2 Chapter Four

Zack’s POV

“So when is the ceremony going to happen?” Will, my cousin and Beta asks as he hands me the pool cue.

“Not sure exactly. I have a meeting with my dad tomorrow to talk about it but I know he’s keen to make it happen soon.” I shrug, leaning over the table to sink the ball into the pocket.

“Good, good. I don’t know about you but I’m ready to get started. Our dad’s have had their time now it’s time for us to take over.” Will chuckles as he goes to take his shot.

I nod and examine the pool table, ready to make my next shot.

“So I take it there will be a ball afterwards?” Will asks casually.

“f**k that’s right yeah, my mom and yours will make sure it happens. My mom is dying for me to meet my mate.”

“That’s rough man, I take it you won’t be taking a date? What about Amber?”

I shake my head instantly and scoff at his suggestion.

“Not a chance she’s hot and decent in bed but she’s loopy as f**k. I definitely don’t need that shit.”

“That’s fair. I think she thinks if she sucks you off well enough then she’ll suddenly end up your chosen Luna.” Will laughs.

“Well she’s in for a f*****g big surprise.” I chuckle, sinking the black ball and finishing the game.

I walk over to the drinks table and pick up a beer for myself and hand one to Will.

“Have you seen Heidi tonight?” Will asks taking a swig of his beer.

“I’m going to go and find her now. See if she wants to get out of here for a bit.” I answer sending him a small grin.

“You are one lucky bastard, you know that?” Will snickers walking off to join the rest of the party. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

I make my way out to the pool area and scan the sea of people looking for Heidi. We met at Alpha training camp a few months ago and have been meeting up regularly at parties etc for casual s*x ever since. She’s an Alpha female from a neighbouring pack and like me, doesn’t have time to piss about with pointless relationships. Hopefully I’ll meet my mate soon anyway and when I do she will take her place at my side. Soon I’ll be Alpha of one of the biggest packs in the country and I don’t have the patience or time for desperate women who have delusions of being with me. The arrangement Heidi and I have perfectly suits my needs. No feelings, no complications just rough, hot as f**k, s*x.

I spot her blonde hair from across the garden and examine her body from the back. She has a short pink dress on which is tight fitted around her ass. She is standing with her Beta, some prick named Flynn. He doesn’t like me but I don’t really give a s**t.

When her head turns and our eyes meet I give her a sly smirk and nod towards the pool house. A smile stretches across her face before she turns to the group of people she is standing with to excuse herself. I make my way to the pool house, open the door and wait for her to shuffle in first.

As soon as I click the door shut she throws herself onto my body and kisses me frantically.

“Well somebody is f*****g horny tonight.” I muse as she pulls away from our kiss and begins working on my belt buckle.

“Shut up and just get these off Zack.” she answers.

“You don’t have to tell me twice.” I grin, pushing her fumbling hands away and pulling the buttons of my jeans open. She launches herself at me again for a second time and I grab at the back of her head deepening our fast and furious kiss. She hops onto my body gripping her fingers into my shoulders and winding her legs around my waist. I grab her ass and squeeze hard as I take her over to the sofa. I drop her down roughly and she lands on her ass with a thud.

“Hey what the f**k Zack.” she growls looking up at me with an annoyed expression.

“Don’t pretend you don’t know that it’s my turn this time.” I say pulling my jeans and boxers down, letting my c**k spring free.

“Urrgg FINE!” she smiles, shaking her head as she grasps my hard length.

I let my head hang back as she goes to work sucking my c**k and pumping vigorously with her hand.

“Are you going to f**k me soon or what?” She mutters impatiently pulling away from me, leaving me wanting more.

“Turn around, bend over.” I order and she happily obliges. Pulling up her dress and following my orders.

I follow behind her and clean off before pulling my boxers and jeans back up.

Heidi bends over and picks up her panties and pulls them back on quickly, before walking over to the mirror to fix her hair.

I throw myself down onto the sofa and take a few seconds to catch my breath.

“Thanks. I needed that.” she says slumping onto the seat beside me.

“Tough week?” I ask, taking in her tired expression.

“My father is now saying that he won’t hand over the pack to me until I take a mate.” she answers running her hand through her hair. “Have you given anymore thought to my offer Zack?” she asks turning her attention to me, her eyes staring at me expectantly.

I fiddle with the soft material of the sofa beneath my fingers, mulling over her previous offer.

“I don’t know Heidi, my parents will be pissed if I tell them I am taking a chosen mate. I doubt my dad will let me take over if I tell him.”

“So don’t tell him Zack! Once you take over you can do whatever the f**k you like. You’ll be the Alpha and you’re parents won’t be able to tell you what you can and cannot do.” she answers, irritated by hesitancy.

“Look Zack. If we mate our packs can unite and we will be the biggest, strongest pack in the country. Anyway, it wouldn’t be so bad waking up to me everyday would it?” she pouts leaning over to land a small pat on my cheek.

I suddenly start to feel uncomfortable with this arrangement we have going on. s*x with Heidi has always been easy, non committal. I’ve never had to worry about her growing too attached or clingy but the way she is looking at me now is setting my teeth on edge. She’s attractive for sure and a cool girl to hang out with but I don’t have any particular feelings for her.

“Don’t you want to meet your mate Heidi? Aren’t you curious to see who has been made for you and only you?” I ask, trying to avoid her previous question.

“The whole thing is a lot of s**t if you ask me.” she huffs. “I met my mate and he was a f*****g Omega! Part of the kitchen staff! I mean he was a handsome guy and seemed sweet but there was no way I could accept him Zack!”

“Wait you rejected your mate? Fuck... that’s cold Heidi.”

“Of course I did! I am going to be an Alpha female. I need to have a strong Alpha by my side or I will be a laughing stock! A target for every group of rogue wolves out there.” she argues defensively.

I just nod, not sure what to say in response to her admission. The truth is, a large part of me is looking forward to some day meeting my mate. Sometimes I think about what she will look like? what sort of person she will be? what sort of life we will build together?

I have to admit my curiosity about my illusive mate has grown over the past year or so.

“We will never reject our mate!” My wolf, Mace, growls in my head, not at all trying to hide his distain for Heidi. I push him down, unwilling to start an argument with him right now.

“I don’t know Heidi, I need a bit more time to think it over.” I answer.

I can’t deny that I am also intrigued by Heidi’s offer. My parents are one of the most respected and powerful couples in the werewolf community. My mom is the strongest woman I have ever known. Not only is she an amazing Luna but as an ex soldier, she kicks ass as a warrior too. Together they have achieved a lot and I have to admit following in their footsteps leaves me a little intimidated. Although this is something that I would never admit to anyone.

If I accept Heidi’s offer, I will secure this packs safety and prosperity for a long time to come. Not only that but our pups will be made of strong stuff. I rub my fingers over my forehead and stand up to make my way towards the door.

“Where are you going?” Heidi asks, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

“I’ve got meetings tomorrow Heidi, I’ve got to go.” I answer opening the door to leave.

“So what? You are just going to f**k me and leave without finishing our conversation?” she spits out.

“Watch your mouth Heidi, I’ll let you know when I’ve come to a decision and that’s it.” I warn, leaving her alone as I make my way back to home.

“Sorry I’m late Dad I-...

Oh for f**k sake can’t you both get a room.” I yell out disgustedly, turning my back away from the scene I have just walked in on.

“Well you should knock son.” my dad chuckles loudly along with my mom.

“It’s safe now hun you can come in!” my mom calls, allowing me to open the door fully and step into the office.

“That is disgusting, I don’t need to witness your make out sessions. Especially not in my soon to be office.” I spit out as I take a seat in front of my dad’s desk.

“Oh don’t be so dramatic!” my mom mutters coming over to ruffle my hair as if I am a f*****g 5 year old. “Once you find your mate, you’ll know. You’ll be all over each other too.” she says smiling broadly at my dad who winks at her across the table.

“Always, my little soldier.”

“Right enough can we get on with the meeting now.” I scold them both, eager to get down to business.

“Okay cool it son, you’re not Alpha yet.” My father warns.

“Your mother and I have been talking. We think it would be a good idea to have the ceremony after Christmas. Perhaps on the turn of the new year. After the rituals where you will be sworn in as Alpha, we will hold a ball. Hopefully your mate will be amongst the guests.” my father concludes looking at me for approval.

I nod and rub my chin considering his proposal.

“Two months is not a long time to wait honey and it gives us time to sort out our cottage and leave you the Alpha floor to do what you please with it. Plus Beta Nick and I will be stepping away from our duties with the pack warriors so you and Will have a lot of logistics to work out and things to put in place.” my mother adds.

“Okay fine that sounds good. I’ll let Will know. Just one other thing I wanted to run past you both...”

They both look at me, clearly curious as to what I am about to say.

“I’ve been offered a chance to ally with another pack... by taking a chosen mate-“

“Absolutely not Zack! How can you even consider it.” my mom interrupts, barely giving me a chance to finish my sentence.

“Ella why don’t you let me handle this one?” my father interjects before the conversation can get heated.

“Talk some sense into him Lucas.” my mother answers pleadingly as she exits the office in a huff.

“Zack you know the history between your mother and I. She’s sensitive to the subject of rejecting one’s mate.”

“f**k dad I know the story you don’t have to tell me again. I’ve heard it a million times.” I start, getting irritated now.

“Well then you know son, that rejecting your mom was the worst decision I ever made. Your fated mate is a gift from the Moon Goddess herself. Luckily I was given a second chance. Now I don’t know what I would do without her. She’s my everything. You, your sister Jessica and Ella are my whole world and no matter how much I love my pack, nothing will ever come close to that love. Don’t deprive yourself of your future with your real mate. You’ll only live to regret it. Trust me.”

I nod in understanding. My mind finally made up on the matter. Next time I see Heidi I’ll tell her straight.

Goddess this mate of mine better be worth it.
