Emily “Beginner…..Beginner…..Beginner…” I was pacing the dorm room once more. No matter what I tried to do, I was unable to understand why 'Flammmaen avia' had labeled me a beginner. My attempt to materialize in the 'Hall of Warriors' was unsuccessful now. The phoenix had been sent on some unknown mission by my grandmother. Therefore, at the moment, I was unable to seek any help. 'Flammaen avia' was no longer of any assistance. What had changed? I wondered. My thoughts would have led me into an unending abyss, when Fae interrupted me. “Emily…stop fretting over this.” Fae had always been patient with me. The legendary fairies' intuition that I had always heard of was something Fae possessed in infinity. She never asked questions but did her own things to silently cheer me up. While my heart had been closed since Vern King's betrayal, I did not wish to rudely turn her away. Hence, I smiled as I turned to face her. "When did you arrive? What's there for dinner tonight? I heard that you, along with some other fairies, have volunteered to help in the......" "You are very good, Emily……….very good at changing the topic." I stopped. My rambling did not have the desired effect. "Now to answer you, I returned sometime ago. The dinner menu is a surprise and right now we'll first talk about you before discussing why members of my realm have volunteered." Fae's tone held a rare fierceness. My attempt to leave the room failed as Fae waved her hand and a wall materialized out of nowhere. Just as I raised my own hand to remove the wall, Fae held one of my arms back. "We must talk, Emily.” “Fae you....” “Emily, you can leave only after we have finished this conversation. I am a fairy and some forms of magic are exclusive to those of my realm. If you do not believe it, you should ask Silver, a part fairy. He would enlighten you.” Great……... I thought to myself. I hated myself for being average at the moment and wished for the first time in my life that I had grown up in the Solar Realm. I was sure that Fae would not have been able to force me to stay. “You are avoiding me and I consider you a friend and a roommate. Now, if I do not step in, you'll do something stupid. Who knows you might end up with the Aneglurs and this is not something I would watch happen idly.” My hands accidentaly brushed against the sharp edges of our room’s window, and even though I felt the stinging and realized that my finger was bleeding, I welcomed the pain. Fae, not realizing that my finger hurt, continued, “I returned some time ago and saw how lost you were…..you.” Fae……..she was quite garrulous and, if given a chance, she would carry on without letting anyone else speak. To get over it quickly, I interrupted her, “Fae, you did well but, you’d never understand….” “I won’t but, at least you were ranked. There are many who’d love to get there and be a ‘beginner’. Sometimes, starting all over may be necessary. Technically, you are behind us all…..yet, who knows….you see this is a long journey.” Fae shook her head…..a smile was playing on her lips. It is indeed very good that you failed. At least you’d no longer feel burdened to keep winning.” “Nice consolation Fae…” “Well, if it helps you, my father is an excellent warrior today, and was only fit to be a ‘ beginner’. Those ahead of them then vanished mid-way…some quit and many were unable to advance further…….but…… Fae raised her hands dramatically. I smiled as I had tested her patience. 'Just check out the famous alumni column of our school’s warriors…..you'll find many who made it to the Elite or other Powerful warrior factions starting as beginners.” “Fae….” “I am not trying to sympathize. I am just stating facts which you may verify, Emily.” I felt tired and no longer wished to continue this conversation. “Fae if this is over can you please remove this wall.” “I won’t, since you are weak you will be blocked.” "Fae don’t anger me….." It seemed as if Fae was not paying any attention. “Do you mind if I turn off the lights? I can’t sleep when….” I was annoyed. This fairy wanted to use our hour-long break to rest. It seemed as if I was stuck with Fae for quite some time. Just as Fae was prepared to lie, my anger exploded. The wall in front of me also disappeared. Fae got up and stared. “How did you do that?” “Do what Fae.” “The wall.” “I was as shocked as she was. After some time, Fae asked, “Will the darkness affect you?” “No. It’s fine.” Before she finally went into her own dreamland, she said, “Emily, don’t lose hope. I am not consoling you but, you are the first to have destroyed my fairy wall". "Fairy wall…." "Hmm, the wall of illusions." "Only your leg was hurt when, in reality, touching the wall against my will should have confused you. Maybe there is a bigger reason as to why you are a beginner. Accept that you are a beginner and start. Oh, by the way, I totally forgot....." Fae surprised me as she suddenly sat upright. "The Sword Lady’ told me that you’d be playing at a different place.” Fae dozed off soon after. Fae was a heavy sleeper, and I was the sort who’d always feel comfortable at night. I did not feel like sleeping tonight and as I stared outside the window, my thoughts were once again dominated by the dragon prince…. how we first met and how he had wished me luck… So much had changed within a year. "We are no longer together now," I reminded myself. I sighed deeply. Luckily, I was young. Otherwise, I would surely have a fistful of gray hair by now. The dragon prince and I.....perhaps we were never meant to be. Vern King "No....." I screamed......no....no......no......... Wake up Emily." The face of my mate had lost all colour. She and I were surrounded by smoke, and she no longer answered me. "Emily.......her body disappeared. Flames burnt all around me and at this moment I wanted to die." "Don't," spoke a mysterious voice. "Since you are unhappy, no one deserves to be happy......." ******* I saw smoke emerging from every cell of mine. Supernaturals were pleading for mercy and I, without my mate, took pleasure in ripping of their flesh. My crazed laughter made everyone shiver, and then I saw her again............. Emily, I wanted to touch her but failed to do so. "Emily..........." I ran towards her, but it seemed as if our distance could never be bridged. "Emily............." She was disappearing again and when I stretched my hand I felt as if a teardrop fell on it. My heart was torn with immense pain and as I screamed, my hand seemed to knock against something hard. ********** It took a while before my breathing stabilized. I looked around to see that I had been dreaming. I was feeling uneasy and as I left my bed, I could not help but stop and stare at my reflection in the mirror. Sweat drops trickled down my face. I could not understand what my dream was trying to convey. Was Emily in danger, and would I lose my mate forever? For the first time in my life I was scared.
