Prologue - Breaking the ice.
Megan invited Sarah to join her group of “friends” for a weekend at their cabin in the mountains. This would be Sarah’s official introduction to their life as werewolves. She met a couple of them when they were working on the case, and had heard about humans becoming part of their pack, but all of this was new and, quite frankly, scary. Meg thought it would be a good way for Sarah to get to know Luc in a more relaxed environment, if she had all of them around as buffers. The weekend before they left, they arranged dinner at the main house to discuss the plans for the weekend away. Sarah arrived, nervously pulling her cooler out of her car’s small boot, and before it touched the ground, Luc was standing next to her to help her carry it inside. A big goofy grin on his face. “Hi, glad you came.” He looked so happy to see her. “Oh, Hi, me too.” Sarah smiled, blushed, and followed him inside where everyone was busy in the huge kitchen, talking loudly, pouring drinks, and just being together. The feeling of comfort between them was something she didn’t know about with the kind of job that she did. She’s learned not to trust anyone! “Look who I found lurking around outside the house!” Luc almost shoved her into the kitchen, putting her cooler by the door. “Sarah, honey! We are so happy you made it! What are you drinking?” Meg excitedly greeted her. “A beer, please. Hi, everyone.” Sarah nervously replied. She waved at all of them and didn’t protest when Luc handed her one from the fridge, and not from her cooler. She had just bought hers, and they were still warm. “Welcome to the family.” Fiona walked up to her and hugged her tightly. She smiled warmly. “Sweetheart, give the poor girl a chance to at least settle in.” Matt laughed when Fiona joined Ant behind the kitchen counter where it seemed the two of them were cooking up a storm. “Oh, wow, that smells delicious. Hi, Matt.” Everything felt a bit topsy-turvy, and she shivered slightly when he hugged her. “Luc, turn up the heat a little, this little human didn’t tell us she was feeling cold.” Matt waved Luc closer. “Oh, no, I’m fine. I guess it’s just…” Sarah protested, but Luc walked up to her and put a protective arm around her shoulders. “It’s you lot making her nervous. Now drink up, then they won’t seem so bad.” He winked at her, and she couldn’t help but laugh at him. Throughout the night, he tried every trick in the book to get her attention, but she pretended not to notice. This wolf, however, was not going to give up that easily, it appeared. They sat outside under the stars around a bonfire, and when Meg wanted to go inside, Sarah joined her. Luc noticed that she had forgotten her phone on her chair. It was the perfect time to be a hero! He instantly grabbed it, hiding it in his pants pocket. In his haste, he didn’t switch it off. Clever huh? When she returned, she, of course, immediately noticed it was missing, and the girls started looking for it. Meg suggested that they call the number to find it in the dark, and she dialed… They waited for it to start ringing, and Sarah looked up to find Luc standing there with his pocket lit up and playing the theme song to Jaws “The movie”. Okay, so she liked retro stuff. Red-faced. The women outwitted him. This was all that was needed to break the ice. She held out her hand, taking the phone from him and thanking him for keeping it safe. The moment she smiled at him, his knees went weak, and he leaned against the wall to stop himself from toppling over. Sarah had a great sense of humour and seemed to know exactly how to work on Rudi’s nerves. Meg was loving every moment. “Finally! A girl who can put Rudi in his place!” She laughed when Sarah took the phone and sat down. WHEN THE TIME CAME to go back home, there was something else that drew Luc’s interest. Being a young, single professional woman, she drove a sports car. When it came time for her to leave, Luc’s intense interest in her car was revealed. He played the gentleman and pretended to be interested in every button and knob, but inside he was thinking of how it would feel to be driving this babe of a car. Sarah, who had dealt with mostly men around her, knew exactly what he was thinking and decided to give in, only this one time. She pretended as though she had too much to drink and needed him to drive her home. He jumped at the chance and asked Ant if he would mind fetching Luc from her house. Driving her home, Luc looked like the cat that got the cream. Not only had he found his mate, but he had found her driving a dream car. He was in heaven. She could see from the grin on his face that he was in his element. How did you resist the feelings starting to grow inside of you when someone next to you was so happy? When they reached her house, he kissed her softly goodnight on her cheek, and jumped into the other car with Ant. Waving goodbye when they pulled out of the driveway.
