I walked inside the house, hearing my mom was in the kitchen.
As I thought.
I walked in, seeing her look up, ready to scream. But once she saw it was me, she relaxed and smiled at me.
“Tobias giving you a hard time?” I asked her, as I sat myself down, taking an apple from the fruit bowl. My mom growled as she started chopping vegetables in front of her.
“That child was made by the devil! I should have known once we took your uncle Sam to be his godfather, that we were in trouble.” I grinned as I thought about it. Who knew you could actually grow to get some features of your godparents. My godmother was auntie Jennie. She and my mom had been friends since day one. I definitely got her big mouth, which my father would gladly say: he had grown a love-hate relationship for. Loving the fact that I was never afraid to speak my mind, but on the other hand, sometimes it did get me in trouble for speaking when I should have just kept my mouth shut. My godfather was my uncle Noah. I definitely inherited his big grin. That man could just never look mad or serious for that matter. Whenever something was wrong with me and my parents weren’t around, or it was just too embarrassing to tell them, uncle Noah was my go-to-guy. I could talk about anything with him, he would not judge me once. Thank Goddess he didn’t live too far away. His old folks used to have a small cottage not too far from here. He and his mate Emily had restored it, made it bigger, better and bolder. Turning it into a gorgeous home where they now lived with their three kids. Uncle Noah always laughed, telling the story of how aunt Emily only wanted two pups, but then, after they had Mason and after a few years, when they decided on having another pup… boom, twins! Aunt Emily would always roll her eyes while my uncle Noah would laugh so hard telling this story. Those two were an absolute match made in heaven. I just hoped someday, I would be so lucky, finding someone who would look at me the way my uncle Noah would look at my aunt Emily.
“So, I am letting that teenage boy drama fly out the window, onto you my darling, how was your last day in class?” My mom smiled as she looked up again.
“It was good, Miss Peters gave me a card. She told me I would make a great teacher someday.” I spoke as I grinned, taking a huge bite of my apple. My mom smiled at me.
“Well that’s nice, and I’m sure you will, honey. You can do anything if you set your mind to it.” I took another bite, as I watched my mom slice up some carrots.
“So, tonight is the party at Emma and Ava’s place. You remember right?” I asked my mom, hoping she did not forget.
“No, of course honey, you go and have fun tonight. You deserve it after all that hard work you did in the last couple of months. You want me or your father to drive you?” I thought about it.
“No, I’m good, mom. I think I’ll ask Mason to pick me up.” My mom nodded.
“Don’t make him use his magic, OK? I don’t like that.” I giggled at my mom. Mason had magical powers. His mom, my aunt Emily, was a witch. She had come here to actually save my mom. I have heard the stories. My mom never really wanted to talk about it, but ever since then, she felt nervous around any form of magic. Little did she know about all the cool stuff that Mason could do.
Better not to tell her about it either.
“Need help with that?” I asked as I was done with my apple. My mom shook her head.
“No honey, it’s fine.” I let my head fall back as I sighed.
“Come on mom, you’re going to have to teach me how to cook. I’ll be gone in two months.” My mom gave me her all famous look. The one that says ‘don’t talk about it or I’ll start to cry within five seconds’, that look. The door opened and I could see my mom’s face light up.
Ok,
I guess dad is home.
Seeing him appear in the kitchen five seconds later.
“Hello girls.” He smirked as he walked over, kissing me on the cheek and my mom on her lips. Their arms folding around each other.
Oh Brother,
Here we go again!
My dad looked outside, seeing my brother was still running around like a mad man.
“What is it this time?” My dad asked as he looked down at my mom, his arms still holding her close.
“Your son thought it was funny to place fireworks inside of Miss Patterson’s mailbox, along with his friends. Miss Patterson almost had a heart attack from what I heard!” I could see my father was biting his lip, to not start laughing in front of my mom. I had to give it to Tobias. That actually was funny! Miss Patterson was an old, grumpy lady, who only came out to burst out against little kids.
She had it coming.
“I want him to go over there and apologize to that poor woman!” My mom spoke and I could see my dad roll his eyes at her. Making me giggle as I watched them.
I slowly exited the kitchen, going upstairs to make myself ready for the party. I stepped into my room and threw my backpack down, placing the card I got from Miss Peters on my desk. I walked into my dresser and looked at some dresses, seeing if I could find something to wear to the party. Making up my mind and going for a silver-cowl neck dress. I put it on and immediately knew I would have to take this dress down a notch. If my dad saw me like this, I could kiss this party goodbye. I put my jeans jacket over it.
Nice!
Good cover up!
Putting on my nude sandals underneath, the weather was warm enough now, thank God. I put my hair in a high ponytail and took my big earrings as I put them on. Applying my make-up as I smacked my lips after applying lipgloss.
*Hey Mason, mind picking me up for Emma and Ava’s?* I put my make-up in my bag and closed it as I looked at myself in the mirror one final time.
*No problem at all, Sienna, on my way now.* I opened the door and walked back into the kitchen. My mom’s eyes opened wide as she saw me.
“too much?” I whispered, since I knew my mother would warn me about my father’s potential outburst. She shook her head as she winked at me.
“You’re beautiful.” She whispered back.
“Go, have fun!” I skipped over to her and kissed her on the cheek.
“ OK, later mom.” I sang as I skipped back outside. As Mason’s red SUV drove up to our house.
