The ring

Chapter 6 Gabriel It has been two hours that Moira and I have been sitting at the café, just talking about anything and everything. We are both and only child, both of us still have our parents, and I can’t help but feel a pang in my chest for Gwen, who had no one. When I met her, she was alone, meeting new people but never staying long enough to actually make anyone stay in her life permanently. When I met her, she was almost in a similar situation position as Moira. She was letting loose and trying to find out who she was without the person she had waited for her entire life. I only knew bits and pieces about her past when we had met, and I was alright just knowing the few pieces. I always told myself it was because I knew her past was painful, and I wanted her happy. I was going to be her future. Why would I worry about her past? I am starting to realize that with Moira, that is different. I want to know about her past so that I can help her overcome it, and I want to protect her from every demon that haunts her. “I think I am sober now.” Moira says, looking down at her hands suddenly looking shy. She has been talking about her past, telling me stories about how she grew up. I expected her to be telling me horror stories about her life growing up in a small town, but she mostly has good memories until recently. Up until her failed wedding, everyone was nice to her, aside from your average bullies. There is one girl in particular who always had it out for her, all because she wanted to be the one on Timothy’s arm. “I would like for you to be sure before we decide to go ahead with this.” I tell her. I know I am pushing her into a marriage with a man that she doesn’t know, but I just know that this is meant to be. Moira and I were always meant to meet here tonight. It was fate that I went to that ended up walking Gwen down the aisle just a few hours ago. I was meant to be here so that I could meet the woman that I was meant to love. I sound drunk myself, but this is one of those moments in life that you just know that your life is about to change in a drastic way. You don’t quite know the how or why, just that something is going to happen that will change it for the good or worse. I have a very strong feeling that Moira is going to change my life for the better. “I know I am sober.” She says, lifting her chin and looking right at me, determination in her eyes. YES! That voice in my head shouts. This is it. This is the moment that is going to change my life forever. “And, do you want a moment to make up your mind?” I ask her, hoping that she doesn’t change her mind and is still willing to get married to me. “I have to call Britney, tell her, to get her drunk ass out of the bar. I really should’ve checked on her a while ago.” She says, standing up and getting ready to walk out. My heart sinks to the floor, and I start to hang my head in defeat, knowing that this is the last time that I will se her, but Moira turns around, a small smile on her lips. “We are going to need our witness after all.” She says, and my heart lights up like the fourth of July. She is going to marry me. I am f*****g getting married. Moira walks out of the Café, phone already to her ear as she calls Britney. Just as the door behind her closes, y phone rings and I smile when I see Gwen’s name lighting up my screen. We might not have been meant to be lovers, but she is my person for a reason. “I have a feeling you are about to do something reckless, and the fact that you are answering your phone at two in the morning tells me that I am correct.” Gwen says when I answer the phone. I chuckle and shake my head, amazed at how she knows me far too well. “I am about to get married. Want to be my witness?” I ask her and I hear her suck in a breath. “Are you serious now. Please tell me you are joking.” She says and I shake my head again before I realize she can’t see me through the phone. “You are serious.” She says and I decide to say nothing. She knows I wouldn’t joke about something like this. “Are you sober? Is she sober? Why am I even asking. You are the knight in shining armor, you probably convinced her to get sober first. Where are you?” She asks, throwing out one question after another, answering them before I can even get a word in. “I am at the café around the corner from the bar that you left me in. I tell her and she sighs. “I am getting dressed, but Gareth says he is kicking your ass for pulling me out of bed and stealing his spotlight.” She says, but I can hear the laughter in her voice. I hear rustling and then Gareth telling her that he is glued to her hip, if she is going, then so is he. I should’ve known that he would be tagging along, but I want her there for this. I wouldn’t want anyone else by my side. “I hope you at least have a ring, Gabriel.” Gwen says and I nearly jump out of my seat. “s**t. I forgot that part.” I tell her as I quickly get out of my seat. I mention for the waiter to come over with the bill and she quickly nods before running off to get the bill. These poor people that has to work this time of the night, serving people. I know you have to be desperate for some form of income if you are willing to work at this place, this time of night. The waiter brings the bill and I tell her the amount to swipe, knowing it is four times that of our bill. Her eyes go wide, but she doesn’t argue, only smiles with tears in her eyes. Something about those tears make my heart ache and I pull out my wallet and take out whatever cash I have in it. I hand it to her, and she starts to shake her head, telling me that it is too much. “You can do more with it than I can. I can see it in your eyes. Take it and make something of it.” I tell her and she throws her arms around me, hugging me tightly for a second before she thanks me and then walks away, holding the money tight to her chest. I really hope that I gave enough to make a difference in her life. “Now I really know that I want to marry you.” Moira says from the doorway, and I smile at her. She is truly beautiful. Her cheeks are tinted red, her smile radiant. I want to kiss her so badly that I have to take a step back and just try to calm my racing heart. I am going to marry this woman, and it is going to make me the luckiest bastard on this planet. “Gabriel!” I hear a load shriek come from my phone and I realize I was still talking to Gwen. “Sorry, I got distracted for a moment.” I tell her, my eyes still locked on Moira. She takes a few steps closer to me, reaching out a hand to touch me. She watches her hand as it slides up mu arms, then she gets braver, moving it up my shoulder and then down to my chest. Her touch makes my knees weak with want. Something so simple, yet my body reacts as if it can’t get enough. “You can’t get married without a ring. How did you forget that part?” She asks. “We will get to it now.” I tell her and she clicks her tongue as if she is disappointed. “Met us at the chapel where you got married. It was open 24/7 right?” I ask her, wanting to be sure, though I was sure that the sign at the door did say it would be open. “Yes it is. You better get her something white to wear as well.” She says and again I want to hit myself. Moira is a virgin, that is what the white stands for, purity. This might not be a real wedding to her, but it is her first wedding and I want her to remember it fondly, not just something that was rushed. Luckily, we are in Vegas and in Vegas, the impossible is always possible. As soon as I end the call with Gwen, I take Moira’s hand in mine and place a small kiss on it. My ring will be on this hand, and I can’t f*****g wait to see it there. “How is Britney?” I ask her. “She is drunk and is bringing a date with her. She seems overly happy that I am getting married and then getting some. Her words, not mine.” She smiles, but it is sweet and shy. “Where will she be meeting us?” I ask. “At the chapel. I told her we should be there in a few minutes.” She says, her eyes now locked on where I am still holding onto her hand. “She might need to wait a while. We need to get you a ring and a white dress. Then we need to get your ID, unless you are hiding that in your bra as well.” I tell her, a part of me wondering how she is hiding everything in there. Her breasts are large, and I can’t see how there is much space for anything else. Moira chuckles, reaching into the side of her bra and pulling out her bank card, ID as well as her room key. She really is hiding everything in there. “Well then, let us get the dress and ring and make you, my wife.” I tell her before placing my hand under her chin to gently pull her face closer to mine. I lean in and when she doesn’t stop me, instead only looks at me with those big amber eyes full of want, I softly kiss her. I just want a small taste, just to know if she tastes as sweet as she looks. I quickly swipe my tongue over her bottom lip, tasting the sweet coffee and something that taste like strawberries. I will have to kiss her longer to know if it is her taste of just something that she put on her lips. “Are you ready for this?” I ask her one last time and she nods before reaching up and this time she is the one kissing me, pulling me down with a hand on my neck to get me closer. I don’t pull back or hesitate. I kiss her as if I have been wanting to do this all my life and for a moment, the world stands still and the only person that exists is the woman in my arms. When she pulls away, her cheeks are stained red, her lips puffy and even more beautiful than a few seconds ago. “I hope you don’t mind, but I got another witness to see us make this official.” I decide to warn her. “Your ex-fiancé?” She asks, eyebrow raised. “Well, she is also my best friend, and her husband will be joining as well.” I tell her. She seems to think it over for a moment and then shrugs like it is nothing. “I was hoping to meet the girl that brought you to me.” She says and if it was possible to love someone after just meeting them, this is the moment it would happen. This woman is perfect for me.
