Carlo looked up as three men came into the room in the downtown building housing the DA’s offices—where he’d spent the last five hours being taken through his testimony and signing innumerable papers. “Mr. Farro, this is Walter Brooks and Pat Young,” the head of the local Marshals Service said by way of introduction. “They’ll be with you 24/7 to keep you safe.” “Only two of them?” Carlo asked in disbelief. Walter Brooks nodded. “If you behave and do as you’re told, we’re all you’ll need except during transportation to and from any pre-trial hearings, and the trial itself, while you’re in the court house.” Carlo seemed skeptical. “If you say so.” He eyed the men.
