Chapter 8

Zopia's POV My mum was pressed against by three men under their bodies. They tried to rip down my mum's clothes. She kicked and kicked, legs swiping up the vase on the coffee table. The shattered flowers were splashed on the wall. Freshwater dripped down on the floor. Little by little, my mom's shirt was torn into pieces, uncovering her body. I was scared to death. Tears brimmed in my eyes, streaming down my cheeks. But my eyes fixated on them without even a blink. I gaped and watched, craving this picture in my mind. There were chrysanthemum tattoos on those men's left shoulders. My parents always talked about dealing with rogue affairs these days. These masked monsters are organized rogues, led by that strange she-wolf. When the devils left, when my parents didn't have breath anymore, I fell out of the wardrobe, slamming into a pool of blood. I climbed to my parents' corpses, pulled them together, and held them tightly. "Papa, mama, papa, mama..." I whimpered out, calling them repeatedly as if I could wake them. My throat was ruined after hours passed, unable to utter a word. I lay on the cold tile floor between them, gazing at the white ceiling for days and nights. With a rope in my hand, I thought I could strangle myself to die with my parents. But then my wolf showed up. I wondered if it was because the Moon Goddess couldn't bear my suffering that she sent Arya to accompany me earlier. The first sentence Arya told me is, "if you have so much courage to commit suicide yourself, you should be brave enough to avenge your parents." From that day onward, the motivation that supported me to live was searching for the blind red hair she-half and her tattooed rogues. ... I was woken up by James. The car was not motioning. When I opened my eyes, tears dripped down my cheeks. "Zo, are you okay?" James sighed. "Of course." I faintly smiled. "You know. I hadn't seen my parents' faces since they went to heaven. But I saw them in my dream just now..." James was so acute that he immediately cut me, "Okay, let's not talk about your dream. Get off." He jumped out of the car and ran to open my car door, "welcome home, our queen." I giggled in tears, "thanks, knight." We walked into a deep forest, going through monotonous trees before we stopped in front of a giant one. My finger moved on the tree trunk and found a button inside covered by the brown bark. I pressed the button three times. The land started to shake, slowly cracking apart. There was a driveway slope located at the north and stairs to the south. I walked downstairs as James drove the Ferrari down there. Once I got down, the pups ran to me. "Zopia, you're back." "We miss you." "Are you hurt?" "We worry about you." ... Their parents stood behind them and smiled at me. It was late at night, and the sky was still dark outside, but inside it was bright, with lights hanging everywhere. My Rogue Pack was a secret. I spent years building this underground pack. Werewolves living here were mainly abandoned by their pack. I appointed James as my Beta. He was not good at fighting, though he did well at running the business. He was the reason we could drive a Ferrari. "Oh, Roseline, my darling!" he sprinted to his mate. "Good to see you back, Zopia." Roseline smiled at me sweetly. I nodded. "Thanks for your welcoming ceremony. I felt like graduating from college and my relatives coming to my school." I joked. People burst into laughter. "Okay. Let's go back to sleep." I shuffled the pups' hair. "You guys need more sleep hours." People hugged me one by one before they left. It seems that my broken heart glued by their kind words. How lucky I have them. When my pack members were gone, James turned off the light. As the light dimmed, a strange thing happened. My bare feet glowed in the dark. To be precise, the blood in my veins was glowing rainbow-colored. I rubbed my eyes suspiciously and walked to the better-lit area to double-check my feet. I, James, and Roseline stared at my feet for a while. "What-the-f**k?" I cursed out the word one by one. "Did you happen to swallow some magical pills?" Roseline asked me. She is the most professional medical expert in our pack, not only good at healing living creatures, but also expert at performing an autopsy. "No, there can't be some food side-effects. I haven't eaten anything since I was put in jail." I sat on the ground to check my feet carefully. "Have you stomped on something weird?" James questioned. "Nope." After climbing off the prison wall, Omar carried me to the gate. Wait...Omar. I drank the water he gave me. "f**k that asshole! That's why he let me go that easily." I croaked out. "Who?" James and Roseline took one giant step toward me simultaneously, with faces sniffing the gossip. "No one." I pushed them a little away. This was Omar's trick, luring me to find him. I would rather glow to dead than jump into his trap! "Not a big deal." I stood up, waving to them. "Go back to sleep!" They stared down at my rainbow feet and kept discussing my feet behind while we went upstairs. I was honestly too tired to question their paparazzi tendencies. Once I buried myself in the pillow, I fell into a dreamless sleep. Good sleep this time. No more screams, blood, or tears. ... I woke up with some noises. The surroundings were dark. I instantly sat on the bed, back propped up against the headboard, flipping on the lamp at the bedside. I slept for a whole day till night. "Zopia." someone knocked on the door. It was Roseline's voice. "Dinner's ready." "Okay. I'll go out to eat," I answered. I lazily got off bed and moved to the dressing table. The moment my eyes met the mirror, I couldn't move them away. "Jeez!" Arya yelled in my head. I was glowing. Specifically, my forehead glowed blue, my nose red, my breast black, my hips yellow, my knees green, and my feet covered with rainbow light. I was slowly processing the absurdity of the situation. My jaw fell in disbelief, and I pinched the flesh of my arm hard to prove it was the reality. "s**t!" I slammed my punch onto the table, shaking the makeup. "Omar's an asshole." I seethed. Arya sighed in my head, "he is as like an asshole as you." I knew she was saying that I threatened Omar to leave. I pretended not to hear her. The glowing light was penetrating. Even if I covered my face with two slices of skin mask, there was still faint light radiating. James flipped over a vanilla cake when I showed up with a long cloak covering from my head to my toes. "Gosh, Zopia, we're just having dinner, not going on a rampage!" he screamed. "Shut up. Eat your cake." I found the chair in the corner and sat down. "Zopia, you're glowing." the pup sitting next to me reminded me innocently, holding a fork in her mouth. Somehow, my light became brighter, as if I would faint out like a light. Everybody looked at me. "Jesus, you're like a superwoman, but your nose is too red like a clown," said James in a humorous tone. I threw him a lemon cake at wolf speed, immediately hitting him and causing him to fall from the chair. Roseline stood up, "let me check your body thoroughly." She was my pack mother. I nodded and took a large bite of the roasted beef before going to the infirmary. I might have guessed what would happen. After a series of high-tech examinations, Roseline told me only those who made the potion could make the antidote. I was not surprised. On the way back to dinner, Roseline looked at me worriedly. I looked back at her, smiling. I was smiling to ease her up, but as I smiled with my teeth out, the purple light that my teeth shone shot into her eyes. She cried a little because the light burned her eyes. And again, she was more worried.
