Any way you looked at it, it was clear how Joey was seeing the situation.
To him, Rhys was being an overly possessive boyfriend who was taking issue just because his girlfriend had been looked at by someone else.
The one currently under threat was his friend Ren, who must have gotten caught staring earlier, prompting him to skedaddle abruptly. But Joey felt that it was his own fault that Ren was now in this kind of danger, so even though he was quite intimidated by Rhys, he stood his ground.
Perhaps Rhys was simply offended, but Joey’s obvious protectiveness of Ren made his hackles rise.
'Playing hero, are we?' Rhys found himself thinking as he stared down at the puny guy presently in his way. ‘What do you think you could even do?’
Aloud, he asked coldly, "And who the hell are you?"
