It would rain every time she cried and they said nobody loved her.
Haze.
Harley
My eyes widened when I looked at the phone lying in front of me. There were two missed calls from Nick. I totally forgot about informing him, though it wasn't necessary since his own man left me home. I rolled my eyes before typing a message.
I reached home.
I re-read the three word message before sending it. I clutched the phone in my palms instead of my book. I was waiting for his message. I didn't really understood why I feel an attachment towards him, or why do I feel attraction towards him. Something brings me closer to him but another part is scared to trust him. I sat there waiting for two hours but not a single reply. I sighed as I threw the phone over my desk and pulled my book out of the bed.
"Erase my memory. I want to live." The girl said swallowing her pain. She was crying. She felt heartbroken. The man raised his hand to reach over the girl's head but the girl caught it before he could've touched her head. She pulled his hand under her chin and looked at him in pain. There were no hatred. She could never hate him but she was petrified, scared and in pain.
"I'll never forgive you, Ni-"
I woke up to my alarm blaring. I looked around my room trying to calm my racing heart. What I saw was heartbreaking. The girl in my dream was crying, pleading and I could feel her pain. My chest ached with an unfamiliar pain. My eyes stung, I wanted to cry. I don't know why but I was feeling every emotion of the girl. I took a deep breath from getting up from my bed.
"Good morning, Ley." I smiled warmly at my sister before turning back to the stove. She was dressed in her usual shirt and jeans. I placed a plate of steaming breakfast in front of us before taking a seat beside her. She had bags under her eyes making me narrow my eyes at her.
"Are you sleeping well, Sage?" Her eyes widened before she turned to look at me. A look of fear crossed her eyes before she smiled at me. But it never reached her eyes making me sigh.
"You can talk to me Sage. I'll never judge." She sighed as she pushed away her fork making me look at her attentively.
"I miss Mom and Dad, Ley. They would have been so proud to see me in the basketball team, leading all the girls, to see their eldest daughter working so hard, to see us trying to act strong. But you know what, I don't want to be strong anymore, Ley." She wiped away her tears making me rub her palm in comfort.
"We're almost through it, Sage. We-"
"I am not, Ley. This world don't let us. Every time I speak of you, they wonder why I never talk about my parents. Every single time students talk about their mothers they'll just give me a look, a look of pity. They are freaking sorry, Ley! They are sorry for the thing they never even did!" I blinked the tears back that were threatening to spill any moment now. I had to strong to keep her strong. I smiled at her bravely.
"They are sorry because they couldn't stop that fire that burnt everything down, Sage. They surely pity you, Sage but how does it really matter? You never gave a s**t about people. And you're over it. Some days you get weak but it's because we lived our best life and I am trying my best to still give you one. I love you, Sage and it really hurts me to see you hurt." She sighed as she shook her head.
"You won't ever leave me, right?" I don't know why but this question sent chills down my spine. My chest ached at her question.
"I'll never leave you, Sage. I'll even fight with the death for you. I'm here. Always."
"Always." She said crying in my chest.

"Table number seven needs a chocolate cake with a bottle of Red Wine. They had ordered the cake yesterday. Check by the name, Richards." I nodded my head as I looked into the diary.
"Yes. The order was placed when I was in the Hotel. Elijah took the order, it seems." Sasha nodded as she signed Elijah to come near the counter.
"Did the Richards place an order for a special Chocolate cake yesterday?" Elijah nodded as he walked in the cooking house bringing the cake with him.
"I baked this cake for you, my love." The girl blushed as she pushed the man away making him chuckle.
"You didn't had to do this. We could've just ordered the cake." The man shook his head as he grabbed her waist pulling her closer to him.
"You don't like it when my staff works for you. But you can't deny your boyfriend from pampering you, my baby. I am going to spoil you so much, my Fidelia." The girl blushed.
I jumped when Sasha shook me. What the hell? Why was I imagining things that would never happen to me? I was losing my sanity. I shook my head as I took the cake from them with a bottle of wine. I served the wine to the couple after placing the cake down. I felt as if my chest would explode any moment now. The pain was getting unbearable. There was something about the pain which squeezed my heart out. Something felt so wrong, like I was missing something, something very important.
I was busy cleaning the counter when I saw men in suits walking through the entrance, immediately catching attention of the customers and Mr Hemsworth who literally ran after them with a sweet smile. My attention was solely on a particular man dressed elegantly in his suit. His silver eyes were trained on mine, a look of concern lacing his face. There were guards behind him hawking at the customers, scaring them away.
"Welcome, Mr Keres. I am very honored to have you here, again." Mr Hemsworth was practically drooling like a dog when he sees a bone. But Nick payed no heed to him as he walked directly towards me, stopping just a few steps away.
His eyes roamed over my body before resting over my face, on my eyes. He was quiet for a solid minute or two. He was reading me, analyzing me, prying into my deepest secrets. I couldn't help but be captive in those orbs that were so determined on me. The guards were bowing their head. His eyes lowered a little to my neck, making me follow his gaze. He was looking at the necklace. A look of content crossed his eyes making me gaze at my necklace again. The redness of the moon was dim. The color which usually seemed so ruthless now was dim, an innocent shade of red. Or maybe I was just imagining.
"What's wrong?" He asked leaning over the counter. His hands resting over the desk as I swallowed nervously. He was too close. I could practically feel his minty breath and my heart wasn't taking it normally, instead my heart was thumping too loudly. I was going to faint if he kept torturing me by his proximity, by his gaze, by his damned elegance.
"There's nothing wrong, Mr Keres." Mr Hemsworth replied but again Nick ignored the man as he repeated his question again making me breathe nervously.
"What's wrong, Harley?" I blinked twice before shifting my gaze towards Mr Hemsworth. He clenched his jaw in embarrassment. Nick just dodged his question off and was concentrated on a mere employee, on a damn waitress.
"Everything's fine, Nick." I mumbled with a smile. He frowned as he crossed the counter, standing just an inch away making me gulp audibly. Close. He was too close. While Mr Hemsworth was watching us wide-eyed. Of course, It wasn't everyday a normal waitress would call a famous businessman by his first name.
"Can you please serve a cup of tea, Harley?" He asked as he titled his head a bit. I never really observed a golden watch resting over his wrist and a silver ring on the ring finger of his left hand. My heart sank as I forced my gaze up on his face.
"I'm sorry. What?"
"He asked for a damn cup of tea, Harley? Focus on your work!" Mr Hemsworth snapped at me making me narrow my eyes at him. I really hated being yelled at, especially in front of others and if that 'others' were none other than Nick Keres.
"Well Mr Hemsworth, I would really appreciate if you would show me around your private, air conditioned booth." Mr Hemsworth was taken back by the hostility in his voice. His concerned eyes were no longer on me and were no longer soft. They were cold, trying to bury him nine feet beneath by his cold stare.
"Of course, Sir." His head was bowed. Mr Hemsworth was bowing as he led Nick in one of the private booth.
"So, he's the Nick you were talking about?" I didn't even knew Samuel was in the Diner until he addressed me. I looked at his now terrified face. He was scared yet his tone was laced with disgust. I rolled my eyes as I looked at him.
"f**k off, Samuel." His face turned red in anger as he clenched his jaw. He took a step ahead to scare me. But he never really scared me. He was just a prick.
"You work for me, Harley. I would change the tone, if I were you."
"I'll keep my tone however I want, Samuel. I work for your father, not for you. You aren't the boss of me." Before he could've said something Sasha came with a cup of tea and few cookies. I rose my brow at her.
"They're complimentary." She said innocently as I rolled my eyes.
"Of course, they are." I said taking the tray from her hand to serve Nick.
"Please move aside. I need to work. Not all of us get money by harassing our employees." I said smiling sweetly at him. He must be strangling me in his imagination by the look on his face.
Nick was seated in a private booth with Mr Hemsworth standing beside him. He was busy in his phone until I pushed the door open and he kept his phone over the table. He stretched his hands before standing up and taking the tray from my hands, making me gasp. Mr Hemsworth was watching everything with silent anger on his face.
"It's my job to serve you and not vice versa, Nick." He shook his head before chuckling coldly. I shivered as the aura around him suddenly changed. It was chilling inside the booth as my eyes traveled up to his cold eyes. What made him so angry, suddenly? And most importantly why does the atmosphere changed every time he got angry?
"Nick." I called out cautiously making him sigh as he looked at Mr Hemsworth expectantly. He did leave but not before glaring at me. I sighed as I was now all alone to deal with the angry man.
"I'm sorry, Harley. You don't need to be scared of me. I'll never hurt you." My chest ached at his promise. I looked away from him. His words were honest yet my heart cried out loudly at his words. I shook my head as I concentrated on him.
"Your tea is getting cold, Nick." I said making him curse some colorful words under his breath. I giggled as it was so hilarious to see a man dressed in a suit, running huge hotels and businesses, the most elegant man is cursing over a tea. Not a scene, I see every single day.
I stopped giggling as soon as I saw Nick looking at me too intently. The corner of his lips were slightly up, indicating he wanted to smile but the look in his eyes told me he was astounded. He was shocked. I rose my eyebrows as he shook his head in answer. He stood up from his chair and removed his coat making me swallow nervously. Why the hell is he removing his clothes now? He placed his coat over the chair next to him. He folded the sleeves of his sky blue shirt, displaying half of his forearm. I bit my lips as I looked out of the door. Samuel was glaring at us making me roll my eyes. Spoiled brat!
He took a sip from his cup of tea and grimaced as it might have turned cold. Serves him right for distracting me way too much from my work. He took couple of more sips before I thought I should leave. Maybe he wanted some personal space and time and mostly because it was getting unbearable to stay in his presence where every action of this guy was affecting me, my thinking power and my breathing abilities too. Before I could have opened the door he spoke again.
"Stay, Harley." His voice was low, soft yet demanding. I didn't knew how he could be sweet and demanding at once. I sighed before turning around to face him.
"And what am I suppose to do? Stare at you?" I replied in sass making him chuckle heartily. I never made a joke. Now did I?
"You can. I won't mind." I felt my neck on fire as he laughed at my nervousness. Jesus! He flinched making me snap my eyes at him.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." But the look on his face said otherwise. His face was contorted in pain as I bent down and took his cup and raised it to my mouth and took a sip. His eyes widened as I stood up with his cup still in my hand.
"The tea isn't hot. Why did you flinch?" He still stared at my wide-eyed making me stare at him in confusion before I clenched my eyes with a hiss. s**t! How can one be such an i***t? Drinking tea from his cup?
"I am so sorry for taking a sip. Oh Gosh! Mr Hemsworth will have my head for this. Please don't inform Mr Hemsworth about this. It wasn't deliberate." I muttered before apologizing several time for taking a sip from him tea. I took a sip from his tea. Way to embarrass yourself again, Harley.
He shook out of his trance before he pulled the cup to his lips and took a long sip making me stumble over my steps. Damn it! What was he trying to do? He took another sip and many more before placing the empty cup down. He never broke his eye contact in meanwhile. I blushed as I took a deep breath to look normal. I must be looking like a deer caught in daylight.
"You came all way to this Diner for having cup of tea without cookies?" I asked incredulously. He took a step forehead, making the difference in our height more prominent.
"You weren't okay." He simply said as if it explained everything. His eyes were locked with mine. His silver orbs were melting in concern while I was simply staring at the beauty of this man. Not the physical beauty but the beauty that was rare in this world, he lured me with his name, with his voice. His existence was the beauty.
"I am okay."
"You weren't." He voice grew more softer. I took a step back. I wasn't okay. I was disturbed by my dreams, I was disturbed by my sister's cries, I was disturbed by the constant harassment. I was in pain for the girl in my imagination. Things were happening which sounded insane. I was indeed not okay.
"Look, Nick. I—I am okay."
He nodded his head as he lifted his coat up and hung it around his shoulder making me roll my eyes. His eyes stared at the glass door making me mimic his actions only to find him glaring at Samuel.
"You don't have to work here, my Harley. You don't deserve this harassment." I scoffed before I pulled the tray from the table and placed the empty cup on it.
"There are a lot of things I don't deserve, Nick." I simply said moving out of the booth. He followed me out as I walked over the counter. His guards were quick to get his coat from him. He stopped by the counter as he turned to look at me.
"Necklace looks beautiful on you." And with that he was gone. His words were still occupying my mind. How did he knew I wasn't okay. And even if he knew why did he care? We were still strangers who just met a couple of times.

Sage was doing her homework on the dining table while I was cooking us dinner. She sighed frustratingly before pushing the book away making me snort in amusement. Her eyes narrowed while I just smiled innocently. We were so similar in ways we never noticed. I hated homework with passion. I would always complain about the burden school would lay over us. Even though I loved reading but studying course books were still a challenge. Especially, when the books weren't forced on me but homework was.
"Can't you just homeschool me, Ley?" She asked sitting over the counter making me roll my eyes.
"But you love school."
"I love my school friends." She corrected, making me laugh at her. True.
"But online schooling or home schooling are no fun, Sage. You'd miss an important aspect of your life. You'll truly miss your schooldays in future." I said stirring the soup. She scoffed as she scrolled through her phone.
"You miss your school?" She asked suddenly, her attention over me now. I shook my head.
"They were the best days. We used to get up everyday only to curse why we had to." I laughed as I tasted the soup. Few more minutes before I turn the stove off.
"You miss your old life, Ley." Sage whispered sadly.
"But I love my new life, now." She laughed as she jumped off the counter making me glare at her.
"You need to stop jumping around, Sage. Or you'll hurt yourself again." She smiled sheepishly as she started to set the table.
The dinner went comfortably with her pestering me to just home school her. Sage insisted on doing the dishes while I slipped in my room. I closed the door before I looked at my reflection in mirror. The necklace was resting peacefully over my neckline. It would be honest to accept that the necklace looked so beautiful, so royal. Though it had so many secrets hidden within it's beauty.
