Chapter 3 “How you doin’, boy?” Uncle Ben’s gruff voice sounded strong on the phone. That was good, and made me relax. It worried me being so far away from him, living here in the city. “Fine, fine. You feelin’ okay?” I asked as I walked down the street to my car. “Nothing wrong with me I can’t handle. Just getting old.” I smiled. Ben always deflected questions about his health. “You’ve been old since I met you,” I retorted. “Don’t sass me, boy.” I heard him moving around, probably heading out onto the deck that faced the North Georgia mountains.
