Chapter 1: THEN I'M THE PRESIDENT!
Chapter 1: THEN I'M THE PRESIDENT! Lucas bent to the hot sidewalk, picking up the cleaning supplies he'd be taking to his evening shift at the apartment complex where he was a cleaner. He was already tired to the bones from his afternoon work at the cafe cashier, but he knew how much he needed the money. The sun was hot and beat down on him. There was going to be no respite when he climbed on his scooter to drive to the hotel. He only wished that the heat would give it a rest, he was already sweating like a donkey. He bent to pick the next few items, wondering how he would secure the mop stick to his scooter when Marty's words drifted to him. “Lucas, you heard the sweet, sweet purr of the Mercedes Brabus we just saw in the video. Hell, chicks would be f*****g all over me if I had that.” Lucas scoffed, patting his own pocket where he had dropped his phone as it buzzed with a reminder. Marty eyed him before declaring determinedly. “I swear I'm going to buy one of those before I'm 30,” “Good luck with that, Marty, but in order to make it through today alive, you know you've got like…50 sales still to make.” Lucas reminded him, drawing him out of his daydreams. Marty groaned. “And I'm headed to all those cheap areas where you have to climb the stairs because the elavators don't f*****g work. Affiliate marketing is a hassles sometimes,” Lucan grinned, happy Marty was back to their real life. “Don't you know it, man.” Marty got a glint in his eyes, reaching out to clasp Lucas’ shoulder. “Lucas, I've got a brilliant idea.” “No, no,” Lucas was already shaking his head, “I'm done with your brilliant ideas, man. All your ideas are f*****g trouble.” Marty dropped his arms, affronted. “Oh, come on now. Like I haven't also had the greatest ones too?” “Not to me.” “f**k off, Lucas. I was going to suggest to you that you run some of my jobs today for me and then I'll take your shift Saturday so you can take your girlfriend out.” Lucas paused in the act of strapping on his helmet. “Really? You'd do that?” “Oh, the offer is f*****g gone now, mate.” Marty stated in his ridiculous try at a British accent. He returned to normal to say his next words. “Anyways, we could still reach a deal about Saturday, me and you. Dude, your babe is crazy hot, of course I'll help you do anything to keep her.” Lucas shook his head, flipping Marty off. He always ran his mouth off. Lucas' phone rang in his trouser pocket and he picked the phone from his pocket, raising it to his face to look at the caller ID. An unknown private number. He answered it, bringing the phone to his ear. Sometimes he got cleaning jobs from the fliers he put up in the subways and on the streets. “Yes, hello. Lucas Cleaning service.” “Hello, is this Mister Lucas?” Lucas nodded, even though whoever on the other side of the phone couldn't see him. “Yes, speaking. How may I be of service?” The voice on the other end inhaled. “Mr Lucas, it is my pleasure to inform you that you have an inheritance that you must claim.” Lucas hissed, removing the phone from his ear to briefly glare at it. He put it back to his ear just as the man with the gravely tone said, “It has been bequeathed to you by your father, Master Preston and he left definite orders that you be found so that you could claim your inheritance.” “What the f**k is wrong with scammers like you and trying to scam people of their paper man?” Lucas spoke into the phone. The man paused, and Lucas took that as an admission of guilt. “Mr Lucas, you are the long lost son of Master Preston, separated at birth—” “Yeah, right. And I'm also the president. f**k off, dude.” Lucas barked into the phone as he ended the call and slapped the phone back into his pocket. If it was THE Preston of the Preston Group, a f*****g tech giant in the states, that this man had been referring to as his long lost father then it was laughable. In fact, Lucas laughed, shaking his head. “f*****g bastard, like I don't have enough on my plate, I have to deal with scammers putting blind wishes in my head,” “What? What was that about?” Marty asked as Lucas finished putting on his helmet. Lucas shook it off as nothing. “Nothin’ man, just some fraudster who probably didn't know I don't even have a dime I could send to him.” Marty chuckled, dragging his own helmet from his bike handle to put it on and climb his bike. Lucas got on his scooter, revved it as Marty called out, “Later, man. Lucky fucker, at least you get to get off that shitty, boring cashier service and clean those crazy high-rise apartments. While you're at it, you could sit on their lush sofas and chill out,” As Lucas sped off, joining the late evening traffic as the hot humid air threatened to suffocate him, he thought he wasn't lucky at all, having to go to the really posh part of town with the most expensive, jaw dropping apartment priced complexes. He always watched them, the people who lived in the apartments as he dropped their food or cleaned the floors that they walked on. How had they managed to get enough to rent such places? They seemed to be living up the life. More times than Lucas could count, he was often mopping their floors and keeping their multi million dollar apartments sparkling clean. He envied them. He wanted that life, but he doubted he would ever get to live in such a place. But he could only hope. Lucas parked in the underground parking lot of the apartment complex, and got off his scooter. He had two places to clean in the same complex. Thank f**k this was the poshest part of town and the elavators always worked. He really couldn't imagine how Marty got by, climbing all those stairs to reach his prospects. He walked into the lobby, the cold space chilling him immediately. The air conditioner was on full blast, and he started to breathe better again, finally out of the hot levels outside. His face was just above the stack of cleaning tools in his arms as he approached the reception desk at the ground floor of the apartment complex. He went straight to the tiny closet where the cleaning equipment for each floor was stored, grabbed his work apron and tied it around his neck before pushing out his cleaning cart. He put in the detergent he had gotten and started his trip to the pent house which he would clean first. The elevator opened directly into the large penthouse and he walked in, careful not to track in dirt as he stood by the side and toed off his shoes, pulling in the cart after him. Suddenly a tense and awkward feeling that he really never felt when he entered such places seized him. Poverty made him determined to work hard and live in these kinds of places, but he'd never been intimidated by them to the point where he was timid. He could hear someone's airy voice flowing in from a room close to the living room space. He froze. There was never anyone here when he came in to clean at this time every once a week. It was why he hadn't rang the bell, just used his own keys. “Baby, I think the food we ordered is here. I'm just going to go get it now,” He smelled her perfume first. It was a sweet and alluring scent, curling around him seductively. These guys always had the hottest girls around, so it was no surprise. A beautiful blonde appeared, wearing a tight pink tank top that fit to her boobs and revealed the top of them nicely, and short shorts that hugged her curved, round a*s perfectly, the middle riding up between her thighs. He would have known if he'd looked up immediately, but as it was he was used to never looking at the rich guys' girlfriends he cleaned for, so he kept his eyes down at first, surreptitiously looking his fill of the girls banging body. Something looked familiar about the curves though. “Hey,” the girl snapped. He started to raise his gaze, “I’m sorry, I'm not from the apartment block’s restaurant, I'm just here to cle…Elena?” The girl's eyes looked him up and down, her hands crossing over her front and pushing her boobs even higher. He hissed, “Why are you here dressed like that? Are you here for a cleaning job?” Her palm flashed out and she hit him, smack! In the face. His hands dropped from the cleaning cart as he cradled his stinging cheek. “This is my apartment, stupid.” Lucas stumbled back into the buffet unit behind him, and he heard something crash to the floor, just like his heart. His jaw hardened as the cheek she'd hit felt hot underneath his palm. What was Elena doing here?! He knew his girlfriend couldn't afford to pay rent here, so what was she doing here? Watching as if in a movie, Lucas stood shocked and rooted to the spot as a deeper, more masculine voice called out. “Babe, what’s delaying you?” He turned with Elena to stare, open-mouthed at the man that just came out of the bedroom. He was only wearing a pair of black briefs, his abs rock hard and firm, as his strong thighs carried him to Elena. He kissed her on the lips, sliding his hands around her slim waist and pushing his bare chest against Elena.
