Over a girl

~Alpha Rockan~ I didn’t need a mate, the moon goddess knew this and saved herself the stress of giving me one. All my life I hated a weakness or anything that would make me slow down and having a mate and a child would do that, but these elders won’t listen. I had one already, my brother Tyris, even though everyone in the world including him thought I didn’t give a f**k about him, I still did, but no one had to know how important he was to me so they wouldn’t want to use him against me. “Alpha, you might end up going feral just like the alpha of the red lake pack. We can’t afford to watch anything happen to you, you’re like a god to us, what am I even saying, you are our god and our lives are in your hands.” Timothy, one of the elders repeated what they had been saying over the years, but this time he added an example. I knew his name because of the name tag he had on his chest. I told all the elders to always come with a name tag so I could identify them because I didn’t have the luxury of time to want to know their names or identify them. They weren’t doing this because they loved me, it was because I was the strongest and most feared werewolf in the world, as a matter of fact even vampires and witches trembled at the mention of my name, so these people didn’t want their protection to go feral, else they’d have preferred Tyris on the throne over me. “The goddess didn’t give me a mate and you all know this.” I was in a good mood today, so I replied to them as calmly as I possibly could. “Alpha, you can get a chosen mate. Isn’t that what werewolves without mates do?” Williams, another elder, suggested but it didn’t sit well with me. “Are you mocking me now Williams?” I growled angrily. “No alpha, I’m sorry.” He bowed and sat down. “Fine, I will choose a mate!” I declared to everyone’s surprise. “One of you should give me his daughter and I will accept her no matter what.” I knew no one in their right senses would give me their daughters, because who would want an evil faceless creature for their child? “I’m sorry alpha, I would have loved to be in-laws with you but I don’t have a daughter.” “I’m sorry alpha, my two daughters are underaged. “I’m sorry alpha, my daughter already has a mate.” “I’m sorry alpha...” “Enough!” I snapped and they went mute. “I knew it, I knew this would be it. You don’t want to give me your daughters.” I laughed mockingly at them. “We’re sorry alpha.” They chorused. “Can you all talkative old men not be sorry?” “What... what if we announce to the general public that you will be choosing a mate and everyone should come with their daughters that are old enough?” “This meeting is over!” I got up and left them there, ‘cause if I stayed for one more second, heads might start rolling on the floor. I got to my room, removed my mask and clothes. I was about to take off my shorts when my door opened without warning and the only person that would ever have the effrontery to do that in this world was Tyris. “I can’t remember inviting you to my room.” I said without turning to look at him. “Well, I’m happy about the outcome of your meeting with the elders, I just can’t wait for you to go feral so I would take over the throne of my forefathers as I’ve always dreamed. I turned to him in anger, but I couldn’t hurt him physically, he knew this and that was why he barged into my room and spit trash. “Leave!” I said lowly, but he didn’t budge. “You can detach my head from my body. Rockan.” He derived so much joy in taunting me. He was only doing this to make me get a mate, I knew him enough to know whatever was up his sleeve even though we were always at each other’s throat since we were young. I took a deep breath and took comfort at the edge of my bed. “Whatever.” My eyes went to the mirror in my room and I saw the scar on my face, reminding me of how reckless I had always been since childhood. Why on earth would a nine year old boy that hadn’t met his wolf fight a lion with his bare hands? That memory made me laugh. “Fine, find a mate for you and I. I wouldn’t want a situation where I’ll be insecure about my mate because a mateless werewolf shares the same home as I.” I said and immediately, Tyris left the room looking proud and fulfilled. It reminded me of how he behaved when we were younger when mom would send him to me and he wouldn’t leave until he got what he wanted and when he got it he’d leave like he just overcame the toughest obstacle on earth. Mom too was a little afraid of me, but before she died, she made me promise to take care of Tyris like my son, even though I was barely three years older. ****** After weeks of preparation, it was the D-day, I didn’t know or do anything, but the event was good or maybe a little better than good. though I wasn’t interested. From the beginning of the event, Marlo my wolf had been telling me my mate was there but I had to suppress the urge of going to look for her, she’d find her way to me. I concluded. All the girls came and went but my eyes fell on the girl on black, she stood out because no other girl wore a black dress. Did she do this on purpose because she wanted attention? And as much as I didn’t want to admit, she was my mate. I noticed everything about her from the moment I set my eyes on her. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen in my lifetime, but she could barely walk well as she staggered like she was a drunk person. “She isn’t drunk.” Marlo replied in my head. “Now go to her.” He urged me, but I stubbornly struggled with him. My pride was more important than anything else in the world so I had to protect it. She suddenly looked scared and before I knew it she fell, I wanted to go to her, but I could never do that, or should I? “Mate.” Tyris said and I knew I couldn’t take it anymore. “She's my mate!” I declared pointing at her to everyone’s surprise. “Are you trying to spite me?” Tyris questioned me through the mindlink, I could almost taste his anger. “She’s my mate.” I repeated it loud and clear. Confusion masked her features as the crowd started murmuring. “This event is over, you all can now go home.” I declared. The crowd made a surprise and mockery filled noise, but I didn’t give the tiniest bit of f**k about them. “Bring her to me.” I commanded and the guards rushed to get her, but Tyris stopped them. “You can’t do this Rockan.” Tyris said, looking at me with hate and disgust. “Pay her family handsomely, because she’s no longer going back to them, she’s mine from now till forever.” I declared, to spite Tyris even more. I knew I was drawing a battle line between me and my brother, but what would be more interesting than fighting with him over a girl?
