Chapter 9 “There was a letter for you on the porch,” Carmen says as she steps into the Chamberlain house. Puzzled, Honor accepts the envelope from Carmen. It’s silver with her name written in neat black letters. “Where was it?” Honor asks. “Just propped against the door.” Carmen shrugs. “Who do you think it’s from?” “I can’t imagine.” Honor has a sick thought, “you don’t think it’s something dangerous, do you?” “No, couldn’t get past the wards.” Carmen dismisses her fears. “Good-bye letter from Greg?” Honor snorts. “Definitely not his style.” “Then I guess you just have to open it and find out.” Carmen arches an eyebrow, challenging her. “Maybe it’s a secret admirer.” “Indeed.” Honor scoffs as she toys with the envelope, turning it over in her hands. She leads Carmen up to her room
