Chapter 4 “I can’t stay late,” Honor argues. “I told my mom I’d stop by and you know how she reacts.” Carmen frowns. “I don’t like you going out by yourself, Hon.” “I’ve been doing it my whole life,” Honor reminds her, “and you said yourself that I’ve got sprites and gargoyles watching me.” “But they can’t do much if somebody actually makes an attempt on you,” Carmen argues. “I can’t show up at Mom’s at 11:30 at night,” Honor says stubbornly. “What if I take a cab?” “It’s not like cabs are safer.” Carmen paces the restaurant that’s been surprisingly empty all evening – again. “I will be fine.
