Part 1: Why Is A Linger Book A Must-Read
If you love young adult fantasy novels that will remind you of stubborn young love and lots of intrigues, the Linger book series is definitely for you!
Linger is the second book next to Shiver, out of four books of the #1 New York Times Bestseller young adult fantasy series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls.
Linger novel was released in 2010, a year later, after the first book, Shiver (2009), out of the four books of the YA fantasy series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater. The other two in the series are Forever and Sinner.
Shiver made it to the #1 New York Times Bestsellers list for 40 weeks. It was also set to be a movie in October 2009. However, the producers and Maggie Stiefvater were unable to settle their creative differences, so the production was now indefinitely on hold. It must be disappointing to the Shiver readers. Still, Maggie believes she’d rather have no movie adaptation than disappoints the fans with the results.
Can we blame her? Shiver Linger books are such a great read, but I’d say Linger is written way more beautifully and creatively than Shiver.
What makes Linger so great is the love story that continues to develop between Grace and Sam. A story that starts with a bang in Shiver grows into something much more passionate in Linger and comes to an explosive end in Forever.
Anyway! There are four book series in order. You might want to finish Forever and Sinner while waiting for the movie or read more of Maggie Stiefvater’s other series.
The Linger Book author has a personal life where she regularly updates her readers.
Part 2: Linger-Book 2 Of The Wolves Of Mercy Falls
Shiver Linger and Forever by Maggie Stiefvater is one of the best-known series set in the world of werewolves with young angst characters.
Shiver follows the story of Grace Brisbane, a young teenage girl, as she finds interest in the wolf pack living behind her house. This fascination makes her quickly enthralled by a yellow-eyed boy who came to her home with a gunshot as he reminds her of the yellow-eyed wolf. He was her savior from a pack of wolves who attacked her when she was eleven. Later, she discovers Sam is a werewolf. From then on, a discovery of a supernatural world begins.
It all began with Geoffrey Beck, a werewolf who wanted to turn more wolves into werewolves. The fight inside his pack begins as other members wish to have a cure for being a werewolf. Although Sam sees Beck as his father, he never approves of his plan of creating more werewolves for the pack’s future.
Grace luckily did not shift as a werewolf at a young age, but when she caught a fever in Linger book, she felt a sudden urge to turn and she did. She has, too, or her life would be at risk. In the Linger book, Grace becomes a werewolf.
Now Sam is cured as a human, thanks to the medicine they’ve been working on. Meanwhile, a new character, famous rock star Cole, is introduced in the Linge Book. He wishes to start a new life in the woods and leave behind a superstar life by trying to find ways to be a wolf after he was beaten when touring with his band. He believes it is the only answer to forget his past. He and Isabel will join Grace and Sam as their constant fight to be together in the world of humans and wolves moves up to a new level.
Shiver Linger books are great reads about friendship and love. It gets sad at times, but it’s an awesome read. Teen romance novels can be deeper than we all think. Maggie Stiefvater Linger Series proves that!
Part 3: Maggie Stiefvater, The Author of Linger
Let’s get to know the awesome writer behind this masterpiece.
American young Maggie Stiefvater lives in Virginia. She shared she used to be an anxious young girl with phobias but had many great dreams before she became a talented young adult fiction writer. Her works made it to the New York Times bestsellers list. And she admitted in one interview that Linger, with the Goodreads Choice Award, is one of the most difficult she’s ever written.
Like Sam from Linger, Maggie Stiefvater is also a musician. In fact, she has playlists she released, saying they were what she listened to while writing. I wonder which songs she was listening to while writing Shiver, Linger, Forever Linger Story, specifically, as the inner monologues make the characters feel like real people to the readers. Maggie Stiefvater’s writing is just stunning the way she describes the world in Linger is so picturesque and vivid but never overdone or cliché.
Part 4: Shiver, Linger, Forever, and Sinner
As mentioned above, Linger Book is a part of four books fantasy series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls. The last in the series, Sinner, published in 2014, is a standalone, but it is a must to read the first three in the series first Shiver (2009) Linger (2010), and Forever (2011) so you won’t get lost in the middle of reading.
Part 5: Thoughts on Linger Book
I think some readers might be put off by the alternating narration of Linger. It was written from different points of view of the main characters in the story, Grace, and Sam, alongside their friends, Cole and Isabel.
Still, Maggie makes justice with each character’s points-of-view readers will instantly recognize the voices of each character’s inner monologue. She has different styles in introducing the readers to the unique perspectives of each character in the Linger Book.
If you’re interested in YA fantasy novels (and who isn’t?), Linger Book should definitely be on your list!
