Part 1: Plot Summary of Well Matched
April Parker is a single mother that has lived in Willow Creek for twelve years, with an unbreakable wall around her heart. She’s not your typical single mother that treats everyone in the neighborhood like cookies.
April is quite the opposite. She hates social gatherings, is not fond of public speaking, and is easily irritated by overcrowded places. That’s why when her daughter Caitlin prepares to go to college, her relief is beyond the roof.
For the first time since her divorce, she’d be able to put herself first and live a life free of domestic stress. She planned to sell their house. But before she could place it on the market, she must do some renovations so the future buyer wouldn’t be discouraged.
That’s when Mitch Malone comes in. Mitch is a gym teacher and has been April’s best friend for years. He’s the yang of her character, a great personification of a sunshine dude. Dissimilar to April, Mitch has led a robust life. He’s the life of every party, the source of laughter in a group, and the one that lightens up anyone’s moods.
It’s the reason why April never takes his flirting too seriously. They interact as nothing more than best friends. And that seemed to be the cause of why when April encountered a problem on the house, Mitch hit a block, too.
To solve both’s predicaments, they thought of a bright and seemingly harmless idea.
Mitch will help April to fix her house. As a payment, she’d pose up as his girlfriend the upcoming weekend when Mitch will be meeting his family. They’ve been pressuring him to settle down, get a white-collar job and end his bachelor life. Mitch didn’t like the pressure, so he thought of that plan and propose it to April. But he never thought she’d agree.
The weekend came, and April has no problems faking up a relationship with Mitch. Being single for years, she thought she won’t handle it, but the plan went extremely well, and Mitch’s family had been convinced he was moving to the path they want for him.
When they came back to Willow Creek, April, of course, was glad it was over. But she didn’t expect their moments from that weekend would linger on her longer than expected.
Mitch felt the same way, too. Is there something more than the fake relationship they did? Has she been blinded by their friendship that she didn’t welcome the possibility that they might… click as a partner?
Days passed, and there was no incident that demanded them to switch off their friendship status. Until summer begins, and Mitch’s family showed up unexpectedly, forcing them to put on another show. This time, their relationship appeared genuine and didn’t come off as a ruse. To April and Mitch, it felt real.
During that time, April’s sacred fears come to life. It wasn’t a pretend love anymore, and she was starting to harbor feelings that shouldn’t be allowed in the first place. And to think that was the scary thing, Mitch’s sudden show of affection proved her wrong. Will they fall in love? Or the complications of their lives will come first before they could confess to each other?
