“What I regretted most in this life was marrying Ling Mubai. This marriage put me in great despair.”
We Are Destined To Meet is a marital romance mainly tackling hard topics such as domestic abuse, adultery, and divorce. This kind of novel is honestly not my type. There are explicit scenes including sex and violence. We Are Destined To Meet is a heavy drama, and if you’re not ready to read about a scum husband then this novel is not your cup of tea.
Yet, anyway, the title of the novel – We Are Destined To Meet sounds hopeful, so even though this doesn’t fall to my liking, I decided to give this novel a chance. Okay, so let’s review than about what could be the positive and negative aspects of this novel.
We Are Destined To Meet As A Marital Romance
I tagged this novel, We Are Destined To Meet as a marital romance, it sounds broader since the novel comes with lots of elements not just revolving around the divorce story of Sheng Huangsheng and Ling Mubai, but also an exposition of lots of marriage issues such as adultery, betrayal, and the emotional impact of it particularly on the wife’s part.
Actually, there are lots of negative reviews disliking the female character here. For some, she’s a doormat like a woman who doesn’t have self-love or self-respect.
I get why We Are Destined To Meet is stirring such emotions and opinions from the readers, but as per the storyline, I guess this novel doesn’t aim to show us thrilling romance, I mean our usual conception of romance, rather We Are Destined To Meet attempts to show us the dark and painful side of love, and the realities of the marriage relationship, that love relationship isn’t always a bed of roses.
With that, I admire We Are Destined To Meet for diving into a kind of plot that’s out of the norm.

Part 1: Summary of We Are Destined To Meet
The story of We Is Destined To Meet starts with Sheng Huangsheng being such a good girl, too naive. She treated everyone nicely. She treated her best friend like a sister, even adopted her, and funded her schooling. She was kind to her step-sister despite the fact that she’s a bitch. And above all, she was in love with her fiance, Ling Mubai.
She was confident that he loves her, and that he is loyal to her, until that day on their wedding night, she caught him having to make out with her step-sister.
She was too furious and almost can’t get over their betrayal. But there was more, the next day, when their house was attacked by bad guys, Ling Mubai came. She hoped that he came to her rescue only to get shocked then, that he didn’t, instead there she find out about Ling Mubai’s relationship with her best friend.
Sheng’s life here in We Are Destined To Meet is a total mess. She planned to get on with her life while she was caught up if she was going to take revenge. Until she met a powerful and dangerous man – Uncle Liang, that’s what his henchmen called him.

The Characters
I am almost half of the book, We Are Destined To Meet but I’m still confused about who’s the male lead here because clearly, it’s not the scum husband, Ling Mubai. Though he was mentioned in the blurb Ling Mubai here is the antagonist.
I assumed that Sheng will meet her knight in shining armor in the latter part, but the story is slow-paced. So, from chapter 50 onwards there she married Uncle Liang.
I think I will agree with most of the reviews about We Are Destined To Meet that the characters here are lousy. I am honestly waiting for Sheng’s character development, or for Mubai’s redemption, yet I was disappointed.
Yeah, it’s already given that We Are Destined To Meet resonates with most of the marital life’s realities and of a woman’s situation in an abusive relationship, but as a reader, we hope for the character’s redemption.
It’s also a living reality where women in abusive relationships find their strength and become powerful in the latter. I was waiting to see that in Sheng’s character but I was waiting like forever. She continued to disappoint me plus I don’t like her frame of mind, like okay, she’s been hurt brutally, but then she still has no firm decision about what she’s going to do with her life, and she continues to be soft when it comes to Ling Mubai. Her character presentation here in We Are Destined To Meet is somehow disappointing for me.
The Plot
This is an honest review of We Are Destined To Meet, so I am just being honest here. I don’t like the plot. The concept is there, the premise is solid, and the conflicts are strong. Those were good points.
The plot could have been sustaining if these good points, plus the elements and the genre were all mixed well, but instead what I read most on chapters are like all fillers showing explicit
scenes not to mention rape and murder on top of right on the face adulterous scene, like the husband was get caught having sex with the step sister and instead of them both feeling guilty they just choose to finish the act and mock the female lead. I could not contain it.
And there are more scenes where you will hate the female lead for being stupid and the husband for being trash.
I was reading for quite a long and was waiting for the female lead’s true love and savior to be introduced but then I was left puzzled about who that guy could be as numerous guys came in the latter. All in all, I could say that maybe this novel, We Are Destined To Meet is not for me.
