The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori is a new adult contemporary romance book about the love-hate relationship between Elena and her hot mafia boss brother-in-law Nicolas Russo.

Growing up as an Abelli, Elena had already witnessed a fair share of violence; from watching her papa chop off a man’s fingers when she was seven, to watching her uncle put a bullet through a man’s head. Elena had seen it all.

Her papa, Salvatore Abelli was a well-known notorious kingpin of one of the most organized crime syndicates in the United States and he ruled his house with an iron fist, even letting his only son Tony join in his footsteps.

It was because of his disciplinary nature that he stripped his daughter Elena of the right to marry first as the eldest daughter and arranged for Nicolas Russo, a notorious mafia boss to marry his younger daughter Adriana instead.

As one should expect of high-profile families, contract marriages were normality and viewed as business transactions instead. In the case of the Abellis and The Russos, the transaction was that Nico Russo would do what he did best – kill people to help Salvatore win a turf war, while in return he got to expand his territory, making him millions richer.

Elena, who had just recently come out of a scandal six months ago, tries her best to avoid trouble, but somehow she keeps bumping into her would-be brother-in-law. They start off on the wrong foot when Elena glared at him in the church but soon they develop a love-hate relationship.

This time Elena must flee to avoid getting caught up in another scandal, else her father would make sure her body floats in the Hudson.

The Sweetest Oblivion Book 2

Nicolas Russo is the only child of Antonio Russo, a former mafia boss. Nicolas Russo, is tall (6 ‘3), has (an almost) black hair on tanned skin, has a properly built physique with defined biceps, and an attitude that doesn’t match his handsome gentleman face in any way.

Since Nicolas’s papà had died five years ago, the twenty-nine years old and youngest sitting don had become well known in the underworld. Following his father’s footsteps, he was a cheat, had more blood on his hands than the entirety of the New York State Penitentiary, and was unremorseful about it all.

It was because of his ambitions that he agreed to go into a contract marriage with Adriana, the youngest daughter of a notorious, well-known kingpin of one the most organized crime syndicates in the United States, Salvatore Abelli.

According to the agreement behind the marriage, all he had to do was take care of some Mexicans who had been giving Salvatore Abelli headaches in the best way he could (putting a bullet through their heads) and in return, he got millions richer.

Of course, he agreed because he didn’t believe in marrying for love, or in longing for a woman because he had been able to get women just from his sheer looks and wealth since he was thirteen. However, his mind is put to test when he crosses paths with the sweet abelli, Elena – the first woman who does not regard him.

The Sweetest Oblivion Chapter 3

The sweetest oblivion series

As two independent Italian bosses, Salvatore Abelli, knew that it’d take just a simple marriage to unite his family and The Russos so he organized lunch in his house and invited all the Russos so they would have a good time.

This idea was welcomed properly by Nicolas Russo so he came to the Abellis with his family and cousins. This was a mistake he did not realize yet because some of The Russos still had bad blood with the Abellis.

The lunch started off lightheartedly, as the Abellis and the Russos got to know each other, bonding over trivial topics. This did not last, however. While they were discussing, the men moved the topic from trivial things to suggest they go to the shooting range to practice. This idea was welcomed at first until one of Nicola’s cousins, Stefan insulted the Abellis with a contempt scoff.

Tony, who’s never one to back down from an open challenge, gets back at Stefan by revealing a dark secret – he brags about killing one of the Russos, Piero. Enraged by this revelation Stefan takes Elena hostage and everyone at the table ends up pointing guns at each other.

Nicolas, who’s trying to avoid a bloodbath, orders his cousin Stefan to let go of the matter and when he disobeys he ends up shooting his cousin himself to save Elena and prevent a bloodbath. With Stefan gone, Salvatore Abelli orders that everyone sits down and so they do and continue to eat as nothing happened.

Elena struggles to eat and is still nauseous from the sight of Stefan’s blood splattered on her clothes. She’s still shocked because, despite the amount of violence she has witnessed, her life has never actually been threatened before. She has never felt the cold wicked end of a gun pointed against her head.

The sweetest oblivion chapter five

Nicolas must have prevented a bloodbath by killing his own cousin, but Salvatore Abelli knew the man would not just let the matter slide. His hands were tied, this was why he said nothing while Nicolas Russo tortured and beat up his only son Tony.

Tony did not mind the torture as he had accomplished his plan. He was a tough person so he endured the beating. In the end, Nicolas Russo left him alone after putting a bullet through his palm. It was after Nicolas had left that Elena begged her papa to take her brother to a hospital so he’d be taken care of.
