Finally, a book that contains an MC who’s a bookworm herself, does podcasts, and British royalties, compacted within a hundred pages. Though the Duke and Duchess weren’t the focal points, it’s refreshing and incredulously amazing that they have been used as a plot point for the characters to meet, and battle their own wars.

The Royals Next Door is plainly simple by its nature, but the dynamics of the two central characters made it extra colorful, lively, and sensible. Each chapter contains entertaining scenes, mostly featuring the banters between Piper and Harrison and the build-up of their flurry romance.

The way the tension rises every time they’re near one another is a sight to behold. What’s more interesting is beneath it, the story actually dives deeper into social issues, such as mental illnesses, and stereotypes about romance book readers.

Because its ambiance is light, and the conflict complimented both of the character’s development, it’s safe to say The Royals Next Door is intended for a general audience and should be up to anyone’s bookshelf.

Part 1: Storyline of The Royals Next Door

The Royals Next Door Harrison and Piper

An elementary teacher by day, and an anonymous podcast at night. Piper’s life only revolves around those two activities. She has an enormous regard for romance books, treating them like nutrients that her body must consume every day.

But Piper’s afraid to be judged so she kept her podcast career and her fascination with romance fiction a secret. Even her wish to find her true love vanished along with her dream to become normal. With the obligation that comes with her mentally ill mother, Piper is doubtful if she ever become the author of her own love story.

When the British royalties moved in next to her, Piper is fazed by their surreal presence. But that mere curiosity soon deflated when their stoic bodyguard considered her a security threat. Insulted, and wounded by the notion, Piper swore at him every time they come across each other.

Piper has no choice but to endure the presence of the arrogant and ambiguous bodyguard, because what else could she do? It’s the British royalties we’re talking about. She can’t make them leave. And she certainly can’t overpower Harrison who’s tall, almighty, and has tattoos!

And so Piper endured it. As time cut through, however, things began to change. Their interaction became less and less sour as Piper starts to see what lies beneath Harrison’s tough attitude. Like her, he carries a lot of heavy baggage and a traumatic past.

That seemed to have melted Piper’s wall as she, herself, suffers from a traumatic disorder. Their romance was then geared up by their glaring similarities, and soon, they found themselves swooning over each other.

The Royals Next Door - Harrison

But a personal conflict came sweeping in, and their relationship and Piper’s job as a teacher have been put in a risky line. She’ll have to make a careful choice, to sum up, the problem that threatens their happiness. And though, she needs Harrison’s strong arms to shield her, Piper took up the responsibility and solved it on her own.

Towards the end, her relationship with her mother evolved, and the dark clouds that once blocked them from reaching a happy ending had been swept away. And Piper and Harrison’s love lives on eternally.

Part 3: Thoughts on The Royals Next Door

It’s time to take a break from a heavy drama romance book, and give The Royals Next Door a chance to help you keep entertained. It’s refreshing, invigorating, and enjoyable. The dreamy scenery of the setting was truly remarkable because it helped on creating the mood for the characters and the scenes.

The writing was also exquisite, I had no problems understanding the narration as though the character was speaking to me directly. Though the overall plot isn’t that impactful and has no mind-blowing twists, it got back on the impressive characters and well-put dialogues.

The Royals Next Door is absolutely the one you must read. It will pull you out of your reading slump and will make you laugh, cry and giggle. It’s highly recommended!
