In a world where people are free to love and marry whomever they want, the contract marriage trope so often used in romance novels is intriguing. The President’s Secret Wife revolves around such plot, bringing the story an alluring love-at first sight vibe.
But, although the mutual attraction is undeniable, both characters pretend that their union is a nuisance, waiting for their five-year agreement to be over. Yet, the more their due date approaches, the more reluctant to separation they are.

Part 1: How Kim And Ariel’s Love Story Developed In The President’s Secret Wife
Elegantly dressed, Kim looks around the hall which was filled with people who respected his father and who once did business with him. Yet, he ignores them as this is the last place where he wants to be right now.
It’s his wedding day, but he’s not happy at all. Sensing the man’s distress, his father urges him to put on a smile and at least pretend for the sake of his guests. Kim tried numerous times to get out of this arrangement, to no avail.
His father threatened him in every way possible to marry one particular girl and he had no choice but to give in, especially since he was the president of the family’s company and his dad could take his position away.
For Kim, marriage has always been something trivial, something he wasn’t interested in. He had his flings, yet he never engaged in those relationships emotionally speaking, so it was easy to break them off.
After endless negotiations with his father, Kim convinced the man to allow him to end the marriage with the said girl after five years. So, he looked forward to ending the five-years marriage and move on.
Ariel, his bride was indeed a pretty girl, but Kim always liked his women to be bold, sexy, maybe even a bit reckless, where this girl seemed to be demure and taciturn.
When Ariel steps into the hall, she seems to be just as frustrated as Kim. Although she had always had a soft spot for her husband to be, she disliked the idea of marrying the guy out of obligation, especially since she knew just how much he tried to avoid marrying her.
Slightly shaking and with her palms all sweaty, she took Kim’s hand and they proceeded with their vows. Even if Kim had promised himself to kiss the girl on the cheek when the time comes, he isn’t able to help himself from kissing her soft lips. And he enjoyed it, much to his dismay.
Once the reception is over, Ariel and Kim take a ride home, and he tries to engage in a conversation with his wife, yet she remains silent.
The young man is already frustrated with his wife’s reluctance to speak and her shyness, but the truth is that Ariel just doesn’t want to put the man in his place yet. To avoid complications, she would rather play dumb.
Reaching their new mansion, Kim lays out the rules for their five-year contract marriage. They aren’t supposed to fall in love with each other, nor are they allowed to be open about other relationships they may engage in.
Before agreeing to Kim’s terms, Ariel is already asleep. Soon though she wakes up and finds out that her things haven’t arrived at the mansion yet, needing to borrow one of Kim’s shirts to sleep in.
Coming out of the bathroom, she stumbles and ends up in her husband’s arms, causing a fatal attraction between the two of them. Before doing something reckless, Kim rushes out of the room and pleases himself while thinking about his wife’s beautiful body.
Things are already looking dangerous for the newlywed husband. How will Kim manage to stay away from Ariel, especially after he realizes he is drawn to her?
Part 2: The Cold Womanizer Boss And The Damsel Not So Much In Distress In The President’s Secret Wife
One of the things I am fond of in respect to this particular novel is that none of the characters are what they seem to be. On the one hand, there’s this unemotional workaholic president and on the other hand there’s this silent submissive girl, a wallflower, as Kim describes his wife.
Kim
Rich, smart, powerful, eligible bachelor and coveted by all single ladies in town, Kim is maybe a dream many for a bunch of women. Yet, committing to a relationship is something that it’s not even on his future to-do list.
Kim’s life revolves around work and gaining power and influence in his business domain, thus a woman would only distract him from his goals.
He does vent his sexual frustrations occasionally by engaging in meaningless one-night stands with different girls. He always makes sure though that they don’t think too much of their encounters.
When it comes to Ariel, he doesn’t see her as a potential bed sharer at first, especially since her beauty is elegant, while he enjoyed his girls a bit more daring and revealing. Another turn off for him is the woman’s lack of communication skills.
Well, time will only have him eat his own words, as Ariel proves to be a lot bolder and sexier than he thought. Her courage to talk back and even scold him as well as her perfect body will intrigue and arouse Kim, who will inevitably fall for his wife.
Ariel
Kim’s newlywed wife has her own dreams and goals and they may not be as high as her husband’s, yet they are important to her. As her father, she wants to be a chef and she’s worked hard enough already to start her own business.
At her father’s request, Ariel put her life on hold to marry Kim. The truth is that her parent only wanted to protect his daughter and being friends with Kim’s father presented the opportunity to wed his girl to a fine man.
One of Ariel’s traits that brought the novel a bit more flavor is her reluctance to entertain Kim’s impulses to strike a conversation with her in the beginning.
But, even though she didn’t say a word, we get an insight to her thinking and we actually know why she kept silent. And it isn’t because she’s not talkative or because she doesn’t have the means to retaliate, yet she would rather have him believe she’s obedient than have a fight at the moment.
The minute The President’s Secret Wife Ariel decides to step up, Kim will lose his temper with her. Both characters are dominant here, none of them will back down from a real fight, making their encounters juicy and entertaining.
They have a love-hate relationship with bickering and hot scenes, a true delight for readers. After all, a dull couple would never get to be the epicenter of a love story. Little quarrels and make-ups are the salt and pepper of every marriage.
