Manga Review: The Predator’s Contract Partner from Wattpad

1946

The novel starts out in one of the weirdest ways possible, with an erotic scene straight off the bat in Imperial Year 995. Lucerne, the person Elisha wedded and formulated a sort of contract with, had his ‘brick’ swollen like a weapon and was striking it against Elisha’s ‘goods’.

The situation escalated into something hotter and steamier. Elisha wondered how he got herself into this situation, with Lucerne replying that she should never have crossed the line if she didn’t want to end up in the submissive position she was in, being held by Lucerne and being under his sexual will.

Elisha attempted to rebel with her fingernails, which Lucerne thought was nothing more than cute.

Elisha thought to herself that this situation has never happened before, the future of being the fake concubine of a demonic man, a future in which the Ducal Family of Cartier would be torn apart by disputes of power, Elisha only wanted to get out of such futures. Lucerne then commanded Elisha to moan louder to appease the people outside.

Inevitably, this turned out to be just a glimpse into the future or the past, it wasn’t made very clear because the intention of the author was to have the first chapter be mysterious, captivating, and enough to fully capture the reader’s attention.

It did succeed at that, to say the least. With that, the story went into how Elisha turned back time and reversed her pitiful fate of being indebted and enslaved, essentially.

Part 1: Main Characters of The Predator’s Contract Partner

Elisha and Lucerne in the Cover of The Predator's Contract Partner

Elisha is the name of the woman who serves as the main character in “The Predator’s Contract Partner.” She is a woman of 20 years old who owes an incredible 30,000 gold coins, which converts to approximately 15 billion won in Korean currency or approximately 15 million USD. She had been in debt for this amount for quite some time.

The course of Elisha’s life takes a gloomy turn after she discovers that she will, in the future, be the fictitious concubine of a demon who is a member of the Cartier ducal family and will, in the end, meet a tragic end. She goes back in time in an effort to change the outcome of the situation and turns to an old adversary of hers, Lucerne, for help.

Lucerne is the male protagonist of the story as well as the most notorious psychopath in the Empire. He is known for having a reputation for being heartless and ruthless in addition to his wealth, strength, and mystique. Elisha approaches him and makes a request for a loan, offering herself as collateral in exchange for his protection and assistance in evading her bleak future.

In spite of his initial reservations regarding Elisha, Lucerne decides to take her up on her offer and employ her as a pawn in the conflict he is having with his rivals. Elisha gives Lucerne a reluctant yes when he suggests that they sign a marriage contract, which only serves to further complicate their relationship.

Throughout the course of the book, Elisha and Lucerne’s relationship develops from a transactional one into a relationship that is more complicated and emotional.

Both of them have their own motivations and secrets that they do not share with one another as they navigate the treacherous political landscape of the Empire. This is something that they keep hidden from one another.

Part 2: Main Theme of The Predator’s Contract Partner

Elisha Suffering from Debt in The Predator's Contract Partner

Elisha Sad after Time Travelling in The Predator’s Contract Partner

“The Predator’s Contract Partner” is fundamentally a story about power and control dynamics. Elisha and Lucerne are constantly circling and taking calculated risks in order to obtain and maintain control over their lives and circumstances. Elisha is at a disadvantage in her relationship with Lucerne because she is the boss and has complete control.

Elisha desires more power and control in her life because she is dissatisfied with her current situation. She makes Lucerne a valuable asset by applying her intellect and resourcefulness, eventually playing a crucial role in his plans for the future of the Cartier ducal family.

Similarly, Lucerne is a man who is used to wielding power and being in command. Many people fear him because he is the empire’s most notorious maniac. His interactions with Elisha, on the other hand, reveal a more nuanced side of his personality. Despite his reputation, he is willing to work with Elisha on his own terms. Working together to achieve their individual goals transforms their relationship into a delicate dance of power and trust. This is where the romance of the story is derived from.

You can expect a fair share of erotic scenes, especially considering that the very opening of the novel was one. They do what they’re intended to, they’re steamy and in one way or another, they add to the story in the sense that while they do act as a little bit of fanservice for the reader, there is a good chunk of character development that comes with it.

Part 3: Slight Weaknesses of The Predator’s Contract Partner

Weaknesses in The Predator’s Contract Partner

The pacing is one of the most significant issues in the book, which only has a few. Sometimes the plot feels rushed, and certain events occur too quickly without enough buildup or development. It may be challenging for readers to fully engage with the narrative or feel a connection to the characters as a result.

Another issue with the book is its infrequent reliance on cliche and typical romance tropes. The story has some unique components and twists, but it also occasionally falls into predictable plot points and patterns, which may not be interesting to all readers.

Additionally, some of the character growth can come across as one-dimensional, particularly for the supporting characters who may not receive as much screen time as the main protagonists.

Part 4: Wrapping Up

How Elisha Started It All for The Predator's Contract Partner

The characters in the book are intricate and multi-dimensional, and each one has their own individual wants and reasons for doing the things that they do.

The relationship between Elisha and Lucerne, in particular, is a source of conflict and intrigue throughout the entirety of the book. In addition, each of the other characters brings their own unique perspectives and challenges to the table.

The Predator’s Contract Partner is a fascinating book that brings together elements from a variety of genres in an unusual way. In this well-written story, not only is the plot intriguing, but the characters also get a lot of attention and development. If you like historical fiction, fantasy, and romance, then you should read this book. It is definitely worth reading.
