Her mother remarried into one of the influencial families of the city. Her new husband had two children before the marriage – a boy and a girl. The girl was about Ning Li’s age, only younger by a few months, while the boy was ten years old. Ning Li’s mother had been very appreciative that such a wealthy man had found her attractive enough to marry her, therefore, she would do anything to see that his children also accepted her, and she succeeded.
Ning Li was abandoned for over ten years by her mother. Her father died a few years after failing severally to remarry, and after his death, Ning Li’s grandmother got full custody of her. But now she is seventeen and her grandmother is dead. Burying her accrued a lot of debt for Ning Li, and she began to skip school to work at the nearest coffee shop.
But now that her grandmother was dead, her custody had now dropped to be her mother’s responsibility. This change wasn’t thrilling to Ning Li at all, cos she’d just died after three days of intensive fever, being neglected in a secluded place, disfigured from an accident that could have been avoided, and hated by her step siblings.
She was grateful to be back, and watchful to avoid the choices she’d previously made that had led to her death. Her phone began to ring, she knew it was her mother. She knew she was looking for her, she knew she was about to be accepted again, just like before, into the wealthy influencial family of Ye. Her mother did arrive at the coffee shop that night, after it had started raining.
She wasn’t thrilled, as someone who’d missed her daughter for eleven years, should be. Ning Li returned the indifference with a measure of indifference of her own. She’d been here before and had died for it, now she was all steel emotionally. She refused to leave Lincheng that night, she was well aware of what was going to happen on the road, how nobody else in the car died or got injured except her. Therefore, she found excusses that helped her avoid going to the city that night. Her mother didn’t like it, she couldn’t bring herself to sleep in the filthy village of Lincheng. But she had no choice, she got a hotel room.
By morning, the news of the accident spread, but it wasn’t as drastic as it had been when Ning Li had been involved. With still a high attitude of indifference, the now wise Ning Li followed her mother to the city. She wasn’t aware that the most handsome man, a billionaire at twenty three, had been stalking her. They’d briefly met in her previous life, but she’d died before anything could come out of it, or probably it was her disfigurement that killed every intending sparks. But he’d followed her last night, while she’d been walking up to her grandmother’s apartment, and had inquired as to if her mother’s family had been invited to his grandfather’s birthday.
