Dragons are always interesting elements in fantasy stories. Ever since this creature has been part of fantasy literature. Dragons are popular and since these creatures are cool many readers have come to love this creature, and no wonder the adaption of dragons in modern fiction still entices the readers’ interest.

The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy as you see is a fantasy romance story that centers around the existence of dragons. Yet, The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy is a collision of fantasy creatures. Dragons. Fairies. Elves. Witches.

And what intrigues me also is the story was set in Ireland. Imagine the countryside vibes, the magical mountains, grassland, and hills. I could imagine Tolkiens’ Lord Of The Rings on this but of course, this is a lot different since The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy is a fantasy romance story.

Part 1: Plot Summary of The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy

The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy Plot

In the realm of Talamh, a teenage warrior named Keegan emerges from a lake holding a sword-representing both power and the terrifying responsibility to protect the Fey. In another realm known as Philadelphia, a young woman has just discovered she possesses a treasure of her own

In The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy, Breen Kelly, a language arts teacher in a middle school in Philadelphia, isn’t exactly living her life. She struggles to make ends meet and has insecurities about herself because of her mother who frequently affirms that she is mediocre.

Breen has made some wonderful friends, including one who is her roommate, despite her lack of confidence. When Breen happened to be taking care of her mother’s plants during her absence, she discovered in a document that her father did not really abandon her, instead, he was regularly sending her money.

She decided to travel to Ireland, the country of her father, out of hurt and rage at her mother’s deceit, where she meets the family and learns about the fantastic otherworld of the Fey and discovers too that astounding truth about herself, that she’s more than what her mother told her.

There, she also encounters Keegan O’Broin, a warrior who transforms her life after becoming the bold and ferocious commander of Talamh in that dimension.

Part 2: Main Protagonists of The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy

Breen Kelly

What I like most about Breen’s character in The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy is that she was crafted in something that we could expect would definitely evolve as the story goes through, since her background was someone who was in search of her true identity.

So, as a reader, I was placed with a lot of expectations about her character, and I was honestly expecting she’ll evolve badass from one young woman who wasn’t aware of her powers and her heritage. It’s fun to read Breen discovering her own self and letting go of the version her mother tried to make her into, and shines as she discovers her true origins.

I admired her character and I think we all could identify with her self-confidence issues. I think her self-development journey resonates with our realities. Of course, we all want to be a better version of ourselves, and that’s what Breen has gone through. Breen’s personality in The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy is suited enough to the plot.

Keegan

Keegan is the typical hero here in The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy. He’s an honorable man who has this fierce need to protect everyone. We get much of Keegan’s character in the Prologue about him emerging from the water and holding a sword.

So, at first, it’s clear that we have a badass male lead here in The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy, and for me, Keegan’s character-building complements enough with Breen. Plus, the slow-burn romance between them adds color to the story too.

Part 3: Review of The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy

The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy Book Cover

The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy depicts the awakening of a woman who has spent her entire life cocooned, protected from the real world and her inheritance. Her quest to understand her purpose and abilities in this new world she’s found is filled with incredible events and tales, but as soon as she accepts them, they all become her reality.

This is actually the premise of The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy. I like the depth of this book, it’s more than just dragons and magic.

What makes the plot entertaining are its mythical creatures, the characters, and of course, the world-building, but as you read this novel and come to understand its depth, you’ll see The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy as more than a fantasy romance story.

The World Building

For a story such as The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy where all mythical creatures collide, where both humans and other realms meet, the world-building is such a challenging task, but for me, although not superb, yet still, the author delivers.

I think the key factor here is the usage of Ireland as a setting. I too was thrilled, and could easily visualize the setting, plus the descriptive writing about the setting was amazing. So, I think the world-building of The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy was a factor too as to why this novel was loved by many readers.

Part 4: Recommending A Similar Book To The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy

The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy Similar Book

If you love dragons I’m sure you will also love Fallen: Taming The Dragon King. Same with The Awakening: The Dragon Heart Legacy, is also a fantasy romance novel where lots of mythical creatures collide. I particularly love this book because here I do not just get witches and fairies but imagine dragons and angels in one world. That’s awesome!

So, I was kind of excited when I picked this book when I read the blurb. This is actually a hidden gem, and I do not regret finding this one.

Fallen: Taming The Dragon King tells about the love tale of a dragon king whose power goes dormant after a betrayal and a Queen of an angel realm who was forced to leave her kingdom. I love the concept and the premise of this novel, here we got two powerful yet fallen characters.

A dragon King with a broken heart mated to an Angel Queen with elemental powers is almost unthinkable. An Angel Queen having an ‘alma’ from another species is unheard of. Would they overcome all the obstacles that keep pushing them apart? Would Ayla be able to tear down Alexander’s walls? Would she be able to find her sisters and fulfill their destiny?
