Romance Book Review: Always Only You by Chloe Liese

Always On You is a stunning mixture of hilarious tropes, low-angst romance, and splendid longing as the whole plot focused almost entirely on the development of the two character’s relationships and how their imperfections would change their lives.

Though it’s censored under adult fiction, its light ambiance and relatable scenes could very well match the taste of any generation.

The author who had been recently diagnosed with an autism spectrum, crafted this beautiful novel to give us a glimpse of how autism really takes hold of one’s life. Her heroine was an autistic maiden who tries to navigate her life without revealing her condition and hopes one day, she’d obtain the greatest love of her life.

Will the sudden involvement of the bookworm and terrific hockey player make her realize it has been around her for so long and only waiting for her to be noticed?

Part 1: Interesting Storyline of Always Only You

Francesca Zeferino is the grumpy social media coordinator of LA’s hockey franchise. Known as too uptight, and a hard ass, people always assume she’s hard to deal with, and someone they can exclude whenever a fan meeting is happening.

Mainly because she’s like the adult version of Wednesday Addams-but with a cane-and she kept showing the invisible sign on her forehead indicating she’s allergic to interaction.

However, she didn’t constantly perform any of those to build an anti-fan club and because she’s delusional, it was all part of her armor to cover up the fact that she has autism, and her only way to get through days that are both physically and mentally exhausting for her body.

Her job wasn’t easy, and it has never been so tolerable until one player decided to light up her cloudy life.

Sren ‘Ren’ Bergman is a ginger-haired hockey player who never seems to have fallen in a bad mood. He’s a walking ball of sunshine who attracts people like magnets and always seemed to be around her. He’s the complete opposite of Frankie, the reason why his teammates love him very much and why Frankie considers him a danger.

Unbeknownst to her, Ren has been waiting for her to notice how madly he’s in love with her ever since the moment they met three years prior. He intentionally hangs around the area where she’s so he can admire and spend time with her, even without admitting what he truly feels.

But it’s an unspoken rule around a team that members can’t unite romantically. That forced Ren to keep his feelings hidden, and motivated Frankie to always remind herself that the bubbly hockey player is off-limits.

But their undeveloped attraction took a satisfying turn when an incident occurred that forced Frankie to temporarily move out.

Being the gentleman and genuinely kind he was, Ren offered her a place to stay. He discovered Frankie would be leaving the team soon and would be pursuing a much more profitable career somewhere beyond their place. Ren knew he shouldn’t slack off, and make his moves.

Otherwise, it’d be over. An ‘accidental kiss greatly motivated him. Due to their isolated proximity, their platonic relationship soon turned controversial, ending up in a passionate and desirable love.

Frankie fell almost immediately with Ren, but her need to avoid romantic entanglements reminded her that whatever they were building won’t last. After all, she had been with enough boyfriends to deduce Ren would break her heart, too.

She had witnessed every single one of them scurrying away the moment she revealed her secret. Ren wouldn’t be different.

When she revealed her secret, she was shocked to see how Ren accepted it wholeheartedly, even stating how he regretted that he didn’t discover that on his own.

What blew Frankie’s mind the most was Ren’s conviction to protect and support her amidst the struggles of her condition and her current life. But growing up feeling like a burden, Frankie didn’t buy his reasoning, and still went full-blown cruel to Ren, ending their connection in the most effective way.

Always Only You Frankie and Ren

Gratefully, they still ended up together. Their parting ways were disheartening, but all came worth it in the final conclusion.

Frankie had come to good terms with the way her life was, and the intensity of Ren’s feelings never ceased, even after all the years that went by. They both proved that one true love won’t be easy to get rid of, and it will always stay, no matter what or how much one tries to suppress it.

Part 2: Main Characters of Always Only You

Francesca ‘Frankie’ Zeferino

Always Only You Frankie

Independent, strong, and fearless, Frankie never felt comfortable with someone trying to fight for her or treat her like a kid in need of constant protection. She always felt like a burden or a problem everyone must solve, and so she developed a strategy to keep anyone from pitying her. She put on a facade, and armor to instantly shoo people away.

In reality, she isn’t as savage as she thought she is. Her soft, and adorable side still emits at her everyday life, and Ren didn’t miss that.

Frankie’s character was one of a kind, one that would never slip my mind as she’s the first fictional subject that I’ve come across who has autism. Despite the poor decisions she made throughout the story, Frankie is still likable and impressive. It’s no wonder why Ren has been so smitten with her.

Sren ‘Ren’ Bergman

Always Only You Ren

Overwhelmingly Handsome, generous, and good at sports, Ren’s character is too good to be true to our own standards today. You could immediately know he’s the hero that would alter the heroine’s life as he possesses all the admirable traits of a prince charming.

He was raised in a profitable and big family, the reason why he’s exposed to many different personalities. Beneath his tough appearance, Ren is a nerd, and a virgin, who prefers books over friends.

The way he waited for Frankie, and respected her decision-despite what his feelings demands-was overall is mesmerizing. And when he embraces Frankie’s condition like it was his own is yet another reason why Ren is the perfect epitome of a leading man.

Part 3: Thoughts on Always Only You and Why It Is So Popular

Always Only Youby Chloe Liesse is absorbingly romantic as it depicts well the entertaining concept of the opposites-attracts trope and the beautiful result of waiting patiently for something. It wasn’t boring. Not even one chapter seemed to be a filler.

It’s engrossing and highly addictive. It can be eye-opening, as well, as the author did well in showing the life of an autistic person. Always Only You is the perfect direction to take in Chloe Liesse’s magical world. Though it’s the second book in her series, it was still as impressive as the first one. Definitely recommended.
