By adapting the style of an online game and web novels, Lazy Dungeon Master has successfully reached the surface of mainstream attention, and it’s not hard to see why that has been the case. From its central idea, down to the main character’s design, Lazy Dungeon Master fits the criteria of today’s entertainment, defining humor to a certain level that even a simple gesture from the character will make the audience roar in laughter, and I genuinely vouched for that. The way the author dressed up the character’s flaws as a joke to lift up any seriousness in the novel was remarkable.

It was inspired by the seven deadly sins from the bible, and yet, it’s light and brilliantly comedic. The main character was based upon the sloth who sees valuable activities as inconveniences and mere hindrances that stops him from sleeping all day. When he slipped into the game, he was forced to come out from that, and be a better guy that will save the day. But is it really the case, though? Will he quit from being lazy just because the stakes are too high and his life is at risk? Or will he disregard all of these for the sake of sleeping soundly?

Lazy Dungeon Master - Keima Sleeping

You will find yourself asking these questions once you read the first chapter and understand what the story is all about. The idea that we might see a man undergo an extraordinary transformation is extremely satisfying, even just by thinking of it. The only question in doubt is how? Is it really possible for him to change? In what manner will we see him go from an annoying lazy bastard to a man of virtue and sense? Will the end really be in line with what we want?

This is what makes Lazy Dungeon Master more intriguing. No matter how it appears as fantasy and silly, there’s still color of realism that can be seen with or without careful analysis.

Lazy Dungeon Master is still on-going, going over several volumes and still counting. Every volume has arc that pushes the characters to complete their mission and advance the plot. If you wish to know more about it, read the text below and you’ll definitely understand the hype behind it!

Part 1: Short Storyline of Lazy Dungeon Master

Lazy Dungeon Master - Dungeon Master

As what mentioned above, Lazy Dungeon Master is all about Keima-a lazy and good-for-nothing young man who was summoned to an RPG game as a Dungeon Master. He was tasked to get rid of the bandits that surrounded the dungeon-a small cave with only one roo-and in a mission to destroy the core. Persuaded and berated by Rokuko (the Dungeon Core), he quickly shut off the request and tried to sleep again. But Rokuko was too persistent, in the end, Keima had no choice but to fight the bandits and resume the peace inside it. Do note that Keima is not a hero per se. He followed Rokuko because he wanted no more nuisance, not because his moral self has told him to do so.

Lazy Dungeon Master - The Dungeon Core

His laziness continued to persist as he stayed in the dungeon and began to know more about the rules of living there as a dungeon master. Rokuko became his apprentice eventually, and together, they enhanced the dungeon through changing and improving its natural flaws. All the while they developed the dungeon, Keima and Rokuko’s relationship are also going deeper. Despite Keima’s efforts to stay under the ball of his laziness and avoid any significant works, challenges from outside the dungeon continued to rain on them. Rokuko’s extreme beauty was also getting in the way. The more he became invested to her, the less he became appalled to do nothing. Rokuko’s fragility and unique character influenced him more than it should. And before he could know it, his life within the cramped dungeon was starting to become interesting as more characters revealed themselves and more obstacles stood in their way.

Lazy Dungeon Master - Keima and Rokuko

Throughout the volume 1, basic information about the world and the dungeon are being brought up. How Keima would adapt to it, and how his presence would change it for the better. The following volumes would cover up the full details of his journey towards fame, success and towards being the God of all the dungeons.

Part 2: Main Characters of Lazy Dungeon Master

Keima

Lazy Dungeon Master - Keima

It’s already mentioned for several times how much of an insufferable character he is. On the bottom of his so-called trashy personality, lies a tragic and compelling truth that summarizes Keima as a human. It wasn’t cited clearly what he was like, or what was his full backstory but it’s natural to assume there must be some reason why he had become like that. Rokuko’s support, and the delicacy of her character enabled him to be himself, to show the real Keima behind the sleazy facade. Which is why despite attracting so many girls in the process of being a Dungeon Master, he gets so worked up whenever Rokuko’s safety are brought in line.

As for his appearance, he’s an average looking guy that still hasn’t yet reached the full potential of his puberty. His eyes will turn to red as soon as he become a Demi-God.

Rokuko

Lazy Dungeon Master - Rokuko

Technically known as Dungeon Core Number 695, Rokuko is the Dungeon Core that summons Keima into her world through a gatcha game. She’s ten years old, cute and gullible. Being youngest among Dungeon Cores, she prefers her more adult-like form so she wouldn’t be undermined because of her age. She still stays in her child-like form sometimes. She has long blonde hair, large chest, and slim but proper figure.

As for her personality, she’s pretty straightforward and honest for her age. She selfless and submissive, always choosing to follow the whims of her master. When Keima met her, she was irritant at his rudeness at first. She melted when she got to know more about Keima.

Part 3: Similar Book on Dreame

The fluorishing style of Lazy Dungeon Master is unique at most. There’s no doubt about that. If you’re up to something that will solely entertain you, not getting you amazed, it’s the best web novel I could recommend to you. The plot wasn’t deep, just created for the sake of the reader’s satisfactory. It is rated under 18+ because of the mature themes and scenes not appropriate for young audiences. So before you dive into it, make sure to leave some doubts and filters.
