The short tale “Hard Mated” is part of Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series and was published in August 2012. The shifters were put into segregated settlements known as Shifter towns when humans discovered the shifters more than 20 years earlier. Each shifter was collared to prevent potential hostility and the drive to murder.
However, illegal Shifter Fight Clubs were popping up in many Shifter towns, and like any successful business, the darker side of both the fight clubs would occasionally show itself to start a more deadly bout to the death. Former comrades would clash this time, but more than just the fighters’ lives would be on the line.
First, I felt the price and length of the book made this book a fantastic bargain! Over the past few weeks, I’ve read quite a few shifter and paranormal books, and I’ve noticed that they’re frequently about 100 pages or fewer, and they’re also expensive.
Hard Mated earned a 4-star plus from me. Well written and simple to read, I’ve already purchased the second Ronan, the Bear Shifter novel, and am eager to get started!

Part 1: Interesting Characters of Hard Mated
There are some interesting characters in hard mated. Eron, also known as Spike Reyes, is a tracker, protector, and jaguar shifter. But during his most recent match, Spike would learn that he is also the father of Jordan, Jordan, a four-year-old jaguar shifter cub.
A young human woman who said Jordan’s mother was dying and that she wanted to see Spike straight away also provided this information. The only person who knew how to raise a naughty cub on her own was Grandmother Ella, and in a matter of hours, Spike obtained custody of his tiny kid.
Quarter horse hard mated instructor for the rodeo being Myka Thompson. It was a little out of her league to find her best friend’s one-night stand at a fight club, and Myka was concerned that Spike’s propensity for fighting was evidence that he was not ready to be a parent. But if Spike called and asked for assistance, Myka would get a close-up look at Shifter’s life.
And in hard mated before breakfast. it is immediately clear that Myka and Spike are attracted to one another. What stands out right away is Spike’s predatory and possessive attitude, which kicks into high gear when his innate animal instincts demand he defends his young and potential mate.
In the meantime, hard makerspace had been called about perhaps dating an old Shifter acquaintance who had strong feelings against how Shifters were treated.
In hard-making exchange for a desired spot in the Shifter hierarchy, someone was giving Spike the chance to exercise his inborn animal instincts in the ring. However, Spike needed insurance so that he would comply and the danger to his family would drive him over the brink.
To his amazement, the shifters who sacrificed their own lives to save Spike’s new partner and his son were the very shifters he was ready to ignore.
Part 2: Chemistry Between Myka and Spike
It seems like Myka and Spike have a very genuine chemistry in this hate mated. My whole heart with the heat, though, affected me even more. In this brief narrative or summary, a lot of emotion is included. I came close to tears a couple of times… Like Myka, Spike is a survivor. Both overcame difficult pasts.
It crushed my heart because Spike thought, very rightfully, that most people only saw him as a tool and a thug; they don’t see the carer and his heart underneath the warring surface. As his and Myka’s friendship grows and the danger to his pack is revealed, I was drawn into their adventures. Just as I did, I’m confident you’ll fall in love with him and Myka.
Spike’s character in hard mated won me over since he was so tough, domineering, and sure on the surface but far lonelier on the inside than even he dared to consider. Myka enters his life and heart right away! The lady who had a one-night fling with Spike five years ago, from which Jordan, their kid, was born, is friends with Myka.
Spike didn’t know he had a son until now. When Myka interrupts one of his arguments, she begs him to go see Jillian because she has something to tell him and is about to pass away from cancer. When Spike visits the hospital, a cub is born! He responded to the news beautifully and excellently.

Part 3: Why Do You Prefer Hard Mated
I prefer this kind of novel because I like shifter town and the life experiences they are facing. Jordan mistreatment of his new Dad and Grandma causes a few humorous instances.
From past volumes in the Shifter Unbound series, we also learn a little bit about other shifter town residents. This was an excellent read. The Shifters Un.wcbound series is one of my favorites, and these novellas enhance the plot. Having said that, I preferred that this be a full-length book.
I’d never felt the urge to discover my soul mate as a human in hard mate, but when I first laid eyes on Axel, it seemed as though everything had finally clicked. I had never had any form of excitement before I met him. Although I should have been terrified since he was the largest man I had ever seen, all I could think about was how deeply connected I felt to him.
E said that I was his and he was mine, that he’d never let me go, and that he had spent his entire life looking for me. And I noticed that I was giving in.
It was as simple as breathing. To my absolute dismay, Axel was equally inexperienced as I was, having never felt another person’s touch or desired anybody other than myself. Our first encounter was tense, hectic, and time-consuming. And by the time it was all through, I was confident of one thing.
Hard-mated bane I resisted wanting to go. It’s a good thing he wouldn’t allow me. Note from Lena: Don’t worry, this one provides you with everything you want along with a fair dose of romance because I know how quick and to the point you want your stories to be. A tale about a shifter and a double virgin to whet your appetite! Take pleasure in this traditional safe smut-fest.
Part 4: Wrapping Up
I thoroughly loved this tale. I’ve never read anything by this author before, in hard mated but I’ll investigate her other works. This tale hard mated focused on the romance between human lady Isabella and lion shifter Axel. Although hot, the focus was on their relationship rather than the sex.
There was no danger in this tale; only the two of them getting to know one another and Isabella learning how to live by being a shifter’s mate.
I loved that there were two epilogues, one at five years and one at twenty. Overall, it was a short and enjoyable read. There to assist her cousin with packing up their grandmother’s house. Isabella is angered by her cousin’s lame justification for staying away from the Badlands, but she enjoys the thought of having her own space.
As a lion shifter of hard mated, Axel looked everywhere for his partner. Isabella is aware that many shifters are living in the Badlands. She had no idea that destiny had different plans for her. I heartily endorse this book. This is a wonderful novel. You must give it a read.
