Dragoon is a light novel that was marked completed on March 24, 2018. Comprising 171 chapters, this Japanese novel was also called Ryuu Kishi e no Michi or The Way To The Dragon Knight and was translated into the English language by Yoraikun Translation. I believe I should commend the translators for doing a great job.
Well, I don’t actually consider this adventure-themed work of fiction as overly remarkable as the other top-charted novels under the same genre, but it was one feel-good and refreshing read. This also had a harem vibe but later on, the main character ended up with one woman and I could not spoil that part. Please see it yourself, it was indeed a plot twist to look forward to.
Moreover, the fighting scenes were all right but not as much as the Japanese fiction that I had read before. The author might extend more intensifying action and thrill without sacrificing the smooth flow of the story. Although I was expecting too much, the chapters were not too draggy and redundant at the same time which stopped me from raising a brow.
The technical elements of the story were brilliant, like the terminologies which were given to the fantasy entities. Plus, the settings were mind-blowing too.
But I find the character development so stagnant. Sorry, but the great plot might be given more justice if the characters were bolder and more liberating. I think it must be the reason why there were no sexual tensions presented across the chapters. Yet, as a whole, it was engaging not bad after all.

Part 1: Monumental Characters and Highpoints of Dragoon
Rudel Arses is the main character of Dragoon. He was born to be the greatest among his race however things did not become so easy for him. The Arses clan were known for being corrupted ever since in the Courtois Kingdom.
With that, he was a spoiled brat and as a five-year-old kid, he believed that he had to be followed no matter what. Being the eldest son, he was eager to get whatever he wanted. And so, when he saw a dragon up in the sky, his curiosity was quickly awakened, wondering why he did not find out about it before.
As soon as he learned the truth about dragoons, he wished to be one of them. For dragoons were the ones being obeyed by the strongest monsters, dragons. Rudel wanted to be one of the mighty knights in the kingdom of Courtois.
However, to be a dragoon, one does not just possess strength but also virtue. And because he was too young to understand, he thought he could buy virtue with money.
When he was taught that virtue is earned through good deeds and dignity, he changed his old ways. But because he came from an ill-mannered family most of the people surrounding him ridiculed him.
They could not believe that a five-year-old child like him could do such things. And deep-inside, Rudel told himself that he should not listen to them and focus on his main agenda.
When Rudel the age of fifteen he did not stop aiming to be a dragoon, and so he entered an academy located in the Courtois capital.
During his first day in the male dorm, he met his friend, the Upperclassman Vargas. Then he crossed paths with Izumi Shirasagi, a single girl of the orient who was being bullied by his classmates. Rudel took the initiative to speak up and stopped the teasing.
Part 2: Going Beyond The Limits With Dragoon
Moving over to the exciting parts of Dragoon, Rudel had various obstacles in his pursuit of becoming a mighty dragoon. The Courtois Academy gave him tests that would mold him into a better man amidst the misjudgments he was getting from almost everyone.
He was labeled as a selfish and heartless person which later on vanished when he finally proved himself that he could the greatest.
During his stay in the academy, he had friends whom he turned to. Rudel was trained well and eventually became close to a dragon named Sakuya. It took place when he rode that dragon and felt a profound connection. As they say, when a human and a dragon’s heart connect with each other, he became a dragoon.
But the filial bond that Rudel had with Sakuya did not last. Of course, he was a human and his life is short, unlike a creature like Sakuya who could live up to a hundred years old or more. The dragoons who used to serve the Courtois Kingdom no longer exist. Instead, there were planes and airships flying across the sky.
Rudel might have passed away, but he left a legacy that will last forever. It was indeed a fair ending for me, plus the epilogue was touching and affectionate. And oh, there’s a little Rudel in the last part of the story which you should watch out for.
Part 3: A Legendary Read | Dragoon
Nevertheless, I was satisfied with this adventurous light novel. Rudel made me realize that your roots don’t define who you are, it’s the way you hone yourself as time went by with pure determination and perseverance. In the latter part, the best is yet to come and once a person learned a lot, he will surely change his old bad ways.
After joining the Courtois Academy with Rudel and his friends, why don’t you set into a new adventure inside the SkyGround Academy by Roxana? Celestia and the dragon gang will take you on a fantastic journey with tamers and real dragons.
