The story starts off very boldly with a scene of Ellie, the main character, and Colin, her apparent love interest in the bathroom on the brink of kissing. Collin fights his wolf for dominance, which is apparent in his eyes. They hear a flushing sound, and Colin immediately shifts to a state of disgust Colin’s wolf whimpers along with Luna at the loss of her mate.
Colin screams loudly to make a statement asking Ellie what she was doing, claiming he was with Victoria, and remarking Ellie is the school tomboy. Ellie then thinks of how she was going to get back at Collin for this, either by beating him up or making him jealous.
This was a moment in the future, and we immediately transition to a little bit of preface in the next chapter. The story introduces us to the main cast. Colin is the son of the pack’s Alpha, Lawrence, and Luna, Amara. Luke is her best friend and also someone she hates in a loving way. Victoria is Colin’s current girlfriend who she detests in every imaginable way.
Ellie thinks about Colin, thirsting over his exceptional appearance while her wolf, Leia makes her first attempt to communicate with Ellie, trying to interrupt her thirsting session with her own. The two become instantly acquainted in an exchange of compliments and Ellie desperately wants to see how Leia looks, both of them have identical personalities.
In the training next day, Ellie desperately tries to lower her attention to Colin while Luke finds out that Colin was her mate. This lays the groundwork for the rest of the novel and is the first in a series of exchanges between Colin and Ellie.
Part 1: Main Theme of No One’s Luna
The main Theme of No One’s Luna
No One’s Luna is obviously another werewolf story though it is very friendly toward people new to the genre. Unlike most others, it does not leave you to figure out most of the terminologies and has a little bit of explaining prior to the usage of such terms.
The story encompasses elements of comedy, heavy romance, and a love triangle system. The way the comedy portrays itself is very sleek and has a natural feeling to it. Luke is especially an attraction for laughs, and I love his character.
For example, the night after Ellie turns into her wolf for the first time, she hears a knock on her door and while opening it, another attempted knock turns into a punch in her face by Luke. Hilarious!
The romance element is done beautifully by the author, LilyDean. We feel fuzzy with every interaction between Ellie and her love interests and her development towards these interests is something that DESERVES appreciation. The story’s title also conveniently places itself here. It is that Ellie is No One’s Luna, she has her own place, her own heart, and her own feelings. That was declared to us, as the reader, neatly.
Love triangulation in a werewolf story isn’t exactly uncommon, though this story it is an amazing case of it. We get so heavily invested in each character’s personality and backstory that Luke and Colin feel it is so hard to choose between and that is exactly what Ellie herself feels. Though, Shane’s introduction changes a lot of things within this story.
Ellie being a tomboy is something that I love by the way, her mother’s deep desire to have her be more of a woman is a quality of this series that I like oh so much. While it isn’t a factor elaborated upon all too much, it definitely did have an impact in places like the prom dance in which Ellie actually took time to work on herself with her mother.
Part 2: Things I Love about No One’s Luna
No One’s Luna is a rollercoaster, an adventure in itself. The sudden ups and downs of the series, and the plot twists, are all exceptional. The werewolf genre blends perfectly into the story and does not feel out of place whatsoever.
The series really starts to shift its tone, especially in the later chapters. What we expected to be a wholesome and somewhat dramatic drama between Luke and Collin completely changes with the introduction of Shane’s character.
Collin and Ellie’s moments are also incredibly sweet and their character development is some of the best writing that I have ever seen. The writer is dedicated to their work and clearly knows what they are doing.
Tough decisions are made, characters rapidly experience changes, and the story spices itself up and gives the reader a thrill all while the writer laughs at the masterpiece they have created.
Part 3: Conclusion
No One’s Luna is a fantastic read that takes you on its own unique adventure. I say unique in the sense that it made me feel emotions internally that I would not have felt with any other novel.
Ellie and Collin’s relationship especially made the series stand out for me. It gave the series spice, taste, and a sense of belonging within the writing world and it was a spectacle that demands and deserves appreciation.
Perhaps the series is brought down by the introduction of way too many characters, but the novel makes up for it by having a majority of the cast be interesting and acceptable to our standards. Seriously, every character just pops to me in a sense that I appreciate a lot.
Each chapter feels like it has absolutely no bloating, instead, each chapter speaks to you with its clearly identified purpose. I love shorter books that have a defined story in a defined set of chapters. Reading it all gives you this sense of accomplishment yet it’s paired with emptiness, desiring more of the novel.
However, you can get more! The sequel, The Rogue’s Winter Revenge is available to read and it is indeed completed.
