My Wife is a Ghost Exorciser tells the story of Song Yan, a woman who was fortunate enough to be married to the heir of the Fu family.
Song Yan’s mother was friends with the Madam of the Fu family leading to the engagement agreement between the two even before they were born. Her in-laws treated her very well but not her husband. He was never harsh on her but he wasn’t nice too. This cold attitude became even more apparent when Song Yan’s in-laws died.
Fu Yusheng’s relatives treated Song Yan and her son as if they were parasites. Fu Ran, Yusheng’s sister, even made forbid Song Yan to sleep in any room inside the mansion.
Apparently, Fu Ran prefers Song Yan’s half-sister, Song Lan, because she was prettier, smarter, and more talented compared to the female lead. With all these commotions going on inside the mansion, Fu Yusheng stayed quiet. He never helped her wife and son.
But even on her deathbed, Song Yan never blamed anyone. Except when she turned into a ghost and witnessed the people whom she trusted kill her son. Song Yan became a vengeful ghost who almost met the King of the Underworld if not for the Celestial Master that she met.
She served as an exorcist to her master and his descendants. She had lived as a ghost for five hundred years until the day her last master died.
After five hundred years of living as a ghost, Song Yan returned to the time before her accident with the memory of her past life and vowed to never get fooled again by the people she once trusted.

Following the declaration of Song Yan to divorce Fu Yusheng, she and her son left the Fu mansion and stayed with her brother. She recounted her experiences in the Fu mansion which was heard by her son Fu Chen.
Later that night, Fu Chen texted his father that his stupid dad deserves to die single and alone.
Although this wasn’t a good thing for a child to say, we could see how Fu Yusheng’s lack of care affected Fu Chen.

Everyone thought that Fu Ran was kidnapped. Even her brother, Fu Yusheng, went home from abroad to see the situation. When he arrived, Song Lan immediately hovered around him and acted coquettishly. She even acted as his wife, trying to assist him with his coat.
However, Fu Yusheng simply ignored her and even reminded the butler to train the maids and fire those who were disobedient.
It was very evident in this scene that Fu Yusheng does not really care about Song Lan and the butler also hated her. Now that even Fu Ran knew her true colors, her dream of becoming Mrs. Fu has been reduced to dust.
Part 4: Review of My Wife is a Ghost Exorciser
The novel deviated from the normal curvature of romance with revenge as its main goal. The main character was subjected to a series of trials before being able to be reborn and get revenge.
These trials weren’t ordinary because the main character needed to die before anything else. After death, the protagonist was tasked to exorcise ghosts. Only then she was able to be reborn.
I’d give this novel a five-star in terms of plot, but I wouldn’t say so for the characters. Song Yan is a very likable character. She’s strong and has very firm perseverance. However, Fu Yusheng seemed one-dimensional.
That was a common problem with writers who follow blueprint characters. Writers tend to give everything to the female lead that they forgot to mold their male characters. As you would notice, this problem was rampant among characters with cold and rich defining characteristics. Writers forgot to develop a reasonable backstory.
