My Extraordinary Wife although has an enticing plot for adapting a secret marriage and divorce concept yet the plot flow and pacing is quite slow. It would be more interesting if the story had a heavy conflict. Although readers know that the conflict in My Extraordinary Wife story revolves around divorce, it could have been more felt if the conflict had been shown in the beginning chapters.
My Extraordinary Wife had adapted to the secret marriage, but then the slow pace of the plot keeps the readers guessing what could be the heavy reasons why Ashlyn agreed to be in such agreement, and why they are ending in a divorce. Lucas Nolan’s background here in My Extraordinary Wife is enticing for a male lead. He’s a billionaire, an heir, and attractive. Again it’s such a puzzle to readers why his marriage with Ashlyn was kept in secret for it was not shown thoroughly in the beginning chapters.
As for Ashlyn, her character here in My Extraordinary Wife was different compared to the common novel with a divorce plot. Usually, in divorce stories, it’s the female lead who’s not willing to get a divorce, or who’s dumped by the male lead. But here in My Extraordinary Wife, it’s Ashlyn who wants the divorce.
Lucas and Ashlyn’s character here in My Extraordinary Wife has an interesting background, but the showing of their characters needs more depth for readers to be able to connect to them.
Also, readers were looking for more challenges their characters have to go through to kick the whole thing off but the pacing in the plot seemed to hinder it. The storyline was there. It’s understandable that Lucas would give anything to Ashlyn for her just to stay with him, but other than the villa, it seems that Ashlyn wants beyond material things, again, it was perhaps the translation, but it wasn’t shown enough in the beginning chapters. All in all, nevertheless, though average, Lucas and Ashlyn are characters to root for in a romance novel.

Besides, its female lead has an interesting personality. Lana Sage is a heiress who’s used to getting what she wants, but then her life changes when her father decides that she’ll only inherit his dad’s money if she marries Cameron.
While Cameron on the other hand, is the opposite personality. He knows what he wants in life. He’s a planner. He’s disciplined, unlike Lana who’s stubborn and carefree. The enticing part here in My Secret Marriage is that Lana and Cameron’s opposite personalities thrill the readers. Plus, My Secret Marriage has a heavier conflict, like Lana and Cameron wanted the marriage because they could both benefit from it, but love wasn’t the reason for it.
Lana wants the marriage so she can get the money, while Cameron wants it because he wants to be an obedient son but they need to keep their marriage a secret to protect Cameron’s reputation. So, what’s exciting here is how the plot would pull off to show these two characters falling in love, such a concept makes the readers excited.
