To My Dear Mr. Huo brought up all about the consequences that can happen when your family is all up against you. It’s a romance tinged with heartbreaking family drama, sexy scenes, and aggravating antagonism.
Like every other translated novel, it’s from a third-person perspective, and the cultures being discussed are owned by the Chinese. So apart from its natural ability to enhance any reader’s imagination and knowledge, it’s also an effective caliber for teaching basic virtues that if applied, can make a huge change to the world.
It has already garnered thousands of views, comments, and positive feedback from different reading platforms. Not a surprise. Considering how it unfolded, how the arc of characters has been structured, and how it impacted so many readers, it’s the only assumption one can think of and will turn out to be as true.
Its main concept is about freedom and forgiveness, showing how love can change a broken person, and how it can drive someone toward the rightful path.

Part 1: Shot Summary of To My Dear Mr. Huo
The spotlight of this story is focused on Su Qingsang, a gynecologist, who recently discovers her fiancee has impregnated another woman on the day before their wedding ceremony. Disheartened, and insulted by the betrayal, Su Qingsang cut off their connection and immediately removed him as her groom.
It’s a shame she couldn’t call off the wedding completely as she badly wished to do so. Her family isn’t at all amiable at best and in very much control of her life. Anything she says for herself doesn’t matter. She’s a mere puppet that likes to live inside what her family tells her to.
In the process of rejecting Wei Lenan—her shameless fiancee—she stumbled upon Huo Jinyao who seems to be on a normal day when Su Qingsang accidentally pulled his tie.
Her logic has been deflated by her need to take revenge, and so, without thinking wisely, she asked for his hand in marriage. On.the.spot. No stutter, and with a straight face. Surprisingly, Huo Jinyao agreed wholeheartedly, as if the whole matter was something he hears every day.
On the day of their wedding, her former fiancee showed up and tried to ruin the wedding. But Su Qingsang stood firm on her ground, mercilessly brushing off Wei Lenan’s pleading without showing any remorse.
Her time is done with him, and it wasn’t as though she was crazy as hell with him. If she didn’t accidentally hug her sister’s fiancee, Su Qingsang wouldn’t have considered entering a relationship with him.
Their ceremony has been successful, and the fate of Su Qingsang forever changed.
As their fake relationship strives, she discovers that Huo Jinyao is much more than his good looks and mysterious background. He’s earnest to his promises. He knew how to make them true.
And most important of all, he never left Su Qingsang’s side despite how many times she rejected his advances nor shrugged off his genuine concern. Every time Su Qingsang has to face the cruelty and injustice of her family, he’s always ready to catch her fall, and tend to her broken heart.
However, Su Qingsang never sees that as the real deal, mistaking that as a scheme to make a fool out of her. It took so much time before she began to live above her doubts, and pay him back for all of his sacrifices, and relentless love.
But just as they both settle the hurdles that temporarily stopped them from being fierce on their desires, several revelations took hold of their freedom.
Su Qingsang found out about her identity, why she earned the position as an illegitimate child, and why she has to endure the hostility of her family. Everything they did should have triggered her to be vengeful, to level up all the things they did.
But after so many trials, and painful events, Su Qingsang realized revenge isn’t the right manner of retribution. She let her morality and principles rule her mind, instead of the anger that almost consumed her. As a satisfying result, she learned to forgive and forget.
Part 2: Main Characters of To My Dear Mr. Huo
Su Qingsang
She’s an illegitimate child of a well-known family. Having been bullied by her step-sister and stepmother, she tried her best to distance herself away from them. She strived on her own and made a living for herself. Her success in being a gynecologist is proof of her unyielding strength and confidence in what she’s capable of.
Her patience and resilience are only two of her admirable qualities. She didn’t live up to the stereotypical behavior of a submissive female lead. She broke that down by undermining Huo Yinjao’s control and showing the true strength of women. What’s kind of annoying about her, though, is how he treats Huo Yinjao throughout the novel.
She dumps him repeatedly, and never even showed any remorse for doing so. Thankfully, she was redeemed from being so adamant to show love, and she progressed to a sweet, loving, and powerful Su Qingsang.
Huo Yinjao
Much to my relief, Huo Yinjao isn’t the annoying of possessive-billionaire. His character is unique, unpredictable, and sort of goofy. You can never guess what would be in his mind, or what would be the next word falling from his mouth. He’s very likable, captivating, and not painfully bland.
It’s a rare chance to see the male lead cracking some jokes in the novel, or showing a quirky side. (That’s something, isn’t it?) That’s only the top of his endearing personality, he’s leaning very earnestly toward the traditional moral principles of humankind.
Which is why it’s never difficult for him to express love and care toward someone who hasn’t felt it. For him, everyone deserves to be loved and treasured. His traditional and religious upbringing made him that way.
Part 3: Evaluation and Score of To My Dear Mr. Huo
Totally an 8/10.
What gave away at the full score was its anti-climactic ending. The beginning, and middle were satisfying. When it reached its conclusion, though, it lost its spark. Perhaps if Su Qingsang paid the antagonist a more harsh punishment, it would have been better. Also, the start of their romance appeared too fictional.
I think it’d be impossible to be in love with someone within just weeks of the meeting. Still, it’s a great story that should not be left ignored. Even though the feud between Su Qingsang and her family seemed to be repetitive, the sweet flow of the romance overtopped it.
The author did a good job of molding the characters in a way that benefitted the plot, and its goal to have an impact on someone. How come I didn’t encounter this any sooner is a mystery. It’s an undiscovered gem that should be known to anyone.
Subduing the technicalities, it’s a worthy read that I highly recommend to everyone.
