Halfway To The Grave: Night Huntress 1 by Jeaniene Frost is an action fantasy-romance book based on the life of Catherine Crawfield, a twenty-two-year-old freak from Licking Falls, Ohio.
Already realizing she was a freak of nature, Catherine Crawfield began her vengeful quest to slaughter the undead at the age of sixteen. According to her, vampires were no good and needed to be rid of the world before they caused more harm to people.
It was because of this reason that she went under the moniker Cat Raven (a pseudonym formed from her name and the hair color of the first man who tried to kill her) to hunt vampires.
She was a rookie who worked alone, but by sheer luck and the fact that she was half a vampire, she was able to lure and stake sixteen vampires by the time she turned twenty-two.
Catherine had always had luck on her side until she crossed part with a vampire bounty hunter, Bones. The first time they met at a club, for some reason, Bones had turned down her advances and so she ended up killing one of his vampire pals by accident.
Feeling too Giddy, Catherine went to the same club the next day to try her luck again. Luckily for her as she’d thought, she saw Bones, the vampire who had rejected her advances the other day, and when she tries to lure him in again, he agrees this time.
What she did not realise on time this time was that the whole scenario was a trap. And by the time she figured it out, Bones had knocked her out cold with a sucker punch.
Bones abducts her and takes her to his cave. When she wakes up, he questions her and shockingly, he finds out she’s half vampire. Having need for her skills, Bones gives Catherine an offer to help him kill vampires and in return he gives her what she wants most – the identity of her father so she can exert her revenge.
Catherine agreed to the tempting offer and soon this unlikely duo began to work together. At first Catherine disliked Bones, but with time she begins to take mental notes of the little features that in combination makes him handsome – like a fallen angel.

Catherine Crawfield

Enraged, by how unjust her mom had been treated, Catherine takes on the moniker Cat Raven (a pseudonym gotten from her first name and the hair color of the first man who tried to murder her) and vows to rid the earth of vampires, as many as possible, because according to her, they were no good, and only caused people pain.
However, she also wishes that in the cause of this, that she might someday avenge her mom if she eventually meets her deadbeat dad.
Taking her word to heart, Catherine successfully lures and kills sixteen vampires by the time she had turned twenty-two. She would’ve been going for the seventeenth kill when Bones (her ideal seventeenth victim) a vampire, a vampire bounty hunter knocks her out cold with a sucker punch.
When Bones takes her to his cave for interrogation and learns that she’s a hybrid, he proposes to her an offer he knows she can’t resist. That she helps him hunt vampires, and in return that he’d helps her find her father. Catherine agrees to this deal and they begin to work together.
Bones
Bone is an English vampire, a vampire bounty hunter. He first meets Catherine at a club, and like other vampires, he first misidentifies her as a human until he saw her killing his vampire pal.
He traces her to her house and when she returns to the club the next day, he abducts her and interrogates her till he figures out what she is and then he proposes her an offer he knows she can’t resist.

Chapter one
Like she did every weekend, Catherine Crawfield went to a club far from her town to lure vampires out with her cleavage and then steak them. This was a pattern she had developed and she kept using it because it worked effectively for her.
When she arrives and approaches the vampire she noticed first, he turns her sultry proposals down. She is shocked because this has never happened. A vampire would quickly jump on an offer to go down on a gullible drunk girl so he could suck her dry afterward. But not this one before her.
Unable to persuade him to do her bidding, Catherine leaves him and goes in search of another victim, and luckily for her, she spots another vampire. This time this one agrees to follow her so they leave the club and go to somewhere remote to have fun.
As she’d calculated, the vampire tries to take advantage of her being tipsy and feeds on her, but she steaks him before he can even make a move. Done with this, Catherine goes home and decides to go to the club the next day to see if she’d be lucky again.
When she gets to the club the next day, she meets the same vampire again she saw the other night. He doesn’t turn her down this time, so they leave the club to go have some fun. But before they can get into any action, the vampire knocks Catherine out cold with a sucker punch.
Chapter two
Still feeling woozy, Catherine wakes up and finds herself chained in a cave with the vampire standing before her. The vampire whom she later learns his name is Bones interrogates her to know who she works for and why she kills vampires.
When she tells him the truth that she’s actually half vampire, Bones gives her a mouth-watering offer. He offers to train her so that she can work for him, and continue to kill vampires – this time high profile ones, and in return, he’d help her find her father so she can avenge her mother.
Catherine thinks about his offer for a while before she finally agrees.
