The story tells of a mighty sword feared by so many for its power on the battlefield. Not just it’s power, but the blood of the souls it had drank. They called the sword cursed. This was because none of its masters ever met a good end. The sword itself was already sentient and could understand everything these people said. It also started to believe itself really was cursed.
The story is incredibly moving, frustrating, and uplifting. It is a wonderfully written tale that seriously ponders the issue of misinformation, miscommunication, and no communication at all.
Some things are so perfectly simple, but we complicate them all on our own. It is a life spent wondering about who is on your side; It is a life spent pushing any real connection away because of our cowardly hearts. Is life supposed to be lived in loneliness? Of course, not. We were put on the earth to give and to receive.
To share our hearts even though there is every possibility of us ending up hurt. Nobody said love was simple, but if you look at it closely, it really is. No one said communication was easy, but if you can be brave enough to start, you will find your whole world flowing like a steady tide. No jagged rocks to hinder the boats of success that sail the waters of your life.
We should learn to have that uncommon courage. If there is happiness out there with your name carved on it, how would you know if you don’t speak?

Part 1: Why Read Listening Snow Tower?
Love is out there to chase away that loneliness and pervasive fear of the unknown. Can you find it if you don’t speak?
The piece so clearly shows the mistakes that humanity makes every day. It is a wondrous world that the author has shown us. I don’t mean the pugilist world, no. What I mean is the chaos of two amateurs. In fact, it is the abundant foolishness of two humans in love. Is it strange? No, not really.
I was especially rooting for the two fools to get together already, but it seems like one was just too consumed by her own self-pity and trauma that she was blind to a world of happiness that was there just for her. Letting go of the past is always a difficult thing to do. Not letting your trauma define you is even harder.
Opening a cold heart to the possibility of love – that is damn near impossible. The love story will leave you in a shattered state. Never have I ever been so exhausted by the foolishness of one human. This person literally stabbed a happy future in the heart.
However, it’s hard to see it from a flexible point of view. Happiness was right there. The story is quite an emotional ride, especially as you clearly see each event that shaped the characters. It is beautifully written, and a must-read.
Part 1: The Story of Listening Snow Tower
The story follows the sword, Xue Wei’s experience in the hands of her master. The sword is said to bring bad luck. Her former master had killed himself and his daughter picked the sword. She washed it with her tears. Tears were shed for her father who left her all alone in the world. She was there looking at the man lying unresponsive in his own pool of blood.
The girl took the sword and used it to carve a pathetic shell of a life. She was the daughter of a murderer, and this stigma followed her. She was ostracized and ignored, therefore she made herself bigger than all the trifles of the world. Her vanity was nonexistent, and her future was sent on a path of loneliness.
However, then came the man that brightened everything. He was light and darkness combined. Even with a sickly body, there was more life in him than anyone else. No doubt she could feel the presence of something between them.
Yes, there is no way all that love would have gone unnoticed. Even if it did, there was her heart. So hardened it was, that not a ray of the man’s abundant light could pierce through. She just didn’t want what he was offering.
In the end, she paid the price for her cold heart which she decided to open to the wrong person. Shu Jing Rong is practically a child in a woman’s body, easily compelled by her emotions. She falls back on her default when things get difficult to navigate or even understand.
Part 2: Meet The Main Characters of Listening Snow Tower
Shu Jing Rong
She is the daughter of Xue Mo, the infamous master who went insane and killed a bunch of people. She is a cold and determined young woman, forged from the pain of a life lived as a stain in the eyes of society. She was left alone at a young age and thus had no one to counsel her or give her the love and safety she needed.
She is a woman accustomed to incredible loneliness. She basically made her pain into the home she needed as a person forced to the sidelines. No one was there to fight for her, so she fought for herself. She let her rage drive her life and her sword, causing Xue Wei to taste so much blood that it nearly developed a gag reflex.
One thing struck me when reading the piece. It was the moment she asked if he could give her happiness. That is so messed up because nearly everybody has this misplaced conception that another person can be responsible for their happiness. If you don’t want to be happy, how would you find the happiness that you seek? Life is not a straight path, and love is a troublesome road.
But the rewards in the end are some of the best things that you will ever encounter. Happiness also does not have to be with another person. Happiness can be you finally accepting yourself, your problems, and your trauma, then letting it fall to the back – The back is the past that you can never go back to; it is the road you have walked and would never meet again. The back is the life already lived, ahead is the future that awaits.
