A Hunger Like No Other gives us all interesting fantasy creatures. Vampires, Valkyrie, Werewolves, Demons, Shapeshifters, and Witches. This is a whole lot of adventure dark romantic fantasy, however, the plot focuses more on vampires.

The story of A Hunger Like No Other revolves around a werewolf who finally escaped after years of torture and imprisonment. The culprit of his past agony were vampires. But then he was more devastated when he find out that his long-awaited is a vampire.

I like the story premise. It is attractive as the title and the book cover, and yeah, the cover itself even screams a dark romance type of story.

So, if you’re into a “not so gentleman” type of male lead, and somehow a confused even twisted kind of affection, then A Hunger Like No Other will suit your reading list.

A Hunger Like No Other Dark Romance

There’s something romantic and powerful about a female lead that tames the beast, and that’s what we get here in A Hunger Like No Other.

This kind of feeling is a hook to readers. It sustains the plot. It makes the vulnerable female lead worth rooting for. Another thing why I’m into the dark romance genre is that books of this type are quite psychological.

It gives a sense of satisfaction to me as a reader when I could get into the characters’ heads and get to understand their cold hearts and nasty behaviors, yet as the plot forward, we cling to the development wherein both the characters will find redemption.

As a dark romantic fantasy story, I think A Hunger Like No Other had given justice to the genre itself.

Part 1: The Main Plot of A Hunger Like No Other

A Hunger Like No Other Plot

In A Hunger Like No Other, after years of suffering at the hands of the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is furious to learn that the chosen mate he has waited millennia for is a vampire. Emmaline Troy, an ethereal half-Valkyrie, half-vampire.

When a strong Lykae claims her as his mate and takes her back to his family’s Scottish castle, sheltered Emmaline finally sets out to learn the truth about her slain parents. There, she fears the Lykae and their cruel seduction to satiate their own dark demands, and notorious dark desires.

But when a long-forgotten evil from her past reappears, will their attraction grow into a love strong enough to knock a haughty warrior to his knees and transform a gentle beauty into the warrior she was destined to be?

A Hunger Like No Other Content Warning

Well, this is an honest review. A Hunger Like No Other got some feedback on how abuse was romanticized into love. I get it. I understand. This is basically why A Hunger Like No Other is a dark romance genre.

The book didn’t promise a sweet cutie type of love story. I understand why the male lead is behaving at first like an asshole. That is a mate pull thing blended with rage and resentment towards his captors and was poured on the female lead.

So, I think this book, A Hunger Like No Other does not romanticize abuse, yet it’s showing us how a certain creature is being overwhelmed by his animalistic nature, with rage adding to the complications. Also, if you are familiar with the system of the werewolf world, especially the mating thing, then you would understand Emmaline here falling for her captor.

It’s not the rational mind I think, but the mate bond. Since Lachlain is engulfed with revenge yet captivated by the mate pull, as a result, he was behaving like an asshole. So, here in A Hunger Like No Other, we have presented heavy content that made us hope for a great character’s redemption in the end.

Part 2: Main Protagonists of A Hunger Like No Other

Lachlain MacRieve

A Hunger Like No Other Lachlain

“How such a handsome facade could mask an ungovernable animal was beyond her understanding. He was a beast in the form of a fantasy.”

I love the collision of light and darkness in Lachlain’s character. The way Emma saw him was actually unhealthy. But Lachlain was creatively presented in A Hunger Like No Other, and we noticed more of his charm than of his danger.

In A Hunger Like No Other, Lachlain MacRieve is the 1200-year-old king of the Lykae clan in the Scottish Highlands. He was imprisoned by the Vampire Horde in the catacombs in Paris and was Being tormented by unending fire.

He escaped after 150 years to claim the sheltered half valkyrie half vampire, Emmaline Troy as his mate. As an honest review, Lachlain has a controlling personality, this is perhaps because he is a werewolf.

A werewolf is naturally dominant. So, Lachlain in A Hunger Like No Other, is gorgeous, sexy, and protective but I think he’s not the kind of guy who’ll give you a healthy relationship.

It’s strange that when Lachlain persistently pursues Emmaline, terrorizes her into submission, and makes numerous attempts to rape her, Emmaline eventually decides that Lachlain is kind of attractive. In reality, Lachlain comes with red flags of an abusive lover. However, I appreciate how the author is able to grant Lachalain’s character some type of redemption.

Emmaline Troy

“Realization hit him. Female vampires had always been born beautiful – as a defensive and predatory tool.”

Lachlain was captured by a mate and was always doubtful of Emma’s beauty. He can’t resist her, yet he chooses to doubt her because she’s a vampire.

On the other hand, we got a naive shelter female lead here in A Hunger Like No Other. If you’re a fan of a strong female lead, then Emmaline won’t suit your taste. Here we got a misinterpreted vampire, a submissive lover who is not at first aware of her true strength.

Emmaline didn’t tell Lachlain that she was not the kind of vampire he hated, and Lachlain didn’t tell her that she was his mate. The seduction becomes an attraction, until the two falls into a complex passionate raging kind of relationship.

A Hunger Like No Other Chapter 2

This is the moment when Emmaline was abducted by Lachlain and was taken to a hotel. A Hunger Like No Other Chapter 2 contains mature scenes, and I think it would be in the reader’s perspective whether they’ll find the scenes here romantic, erotic, or abusive, anyway, this is a dark romance, and A Hunger Like No Other was tagged with this genre.

So, don’t say this book didn’t warn you.

A Hunger Like No Other Chapter 10

In this chapter of A Hunger Like No Other, we learned about what kind of vampire Emmaline is. The intimate scene here between Emma and Lachlain was shown as passionate and animalistic due to Emma’s blood lust. It turns out that whenever she craves blood she also lusts for sex, and odd that after drinking blood she eventually forgets what she did.

In this chapter of A Hunger Like No Other, we get to see Emma as the conservative type of vampire yet she loses control whenever she needs blood, and because of the blood-craving incident, Lachlain learns that she was a vampire, and had helped her by offering his blood to drink.

A Hunger Like No Other Chapter 15

I love this chapter of A Hunger Like No Other for the redemption of Lachlain’s character and their relationship was evident here. At this point, Lachlain and Emma seemed to have a reconnection and Lachlain promised he’ll protect her.

Part 4: Review and Conclusion of A Hunger Like No Other

A Hunger Like No Other Book Cover

I think the reason why this book, A Hunger Like No Other, was trending is that Lachlain’s redemption was satisfying. When Lachlain finally realized he had hurt Emma, he was truly sorry and vowed to change. Lachlain’s obsessed and protective nature towards Emma was, I think, the hook of why most readers still find the book romantic. Lachlaine being protective is sexy.

So, here in A Hunger Like No Other, we are introduced to the two characters trapped in an insatiable hunger not for blood, but for affection, and other emotions and past, and conflicts that seemed to entrap them.

All in all, yeah, I will definitely recommend this book. This is a good read if you want to explore both the beauty and darkness of love, plus the paranormal creatures here add more flavor to the plot, thus A Hunger Like No Other is no doubt an entertaining dark vampire romance novel.
