This novel starts off by jumping the reader into pretty much a disaster. Doris pleads to her attacker to stop while blood runs down her nape and tears down her eyes. The blood was the result of her attacker, Prince William, sinking his teeth into the nape. However, the pain was eased to a small extent by William embracing and kissing the wound.

He meaninglessly repeated that Doris was her mate over and over. Doris found this absurd since she was 21 and had no signs of developing a wolf while most others developed it at 14. She couldn’t have had a mate, and Prince William was assumed to be mistaken and drunk. Doris was the slave of the Golden Palace for over 5 years and was under House Arnold, though never did she expect such a predicament.

Freedom was their desire for Doris for a while, though, in an attempt to taste it, she was punished in this manner for it. Despite another slave and Doris’ best friend warning her of the consequences, she went outside in an attempt to taste freedom. Being caught would mean trouble, though she inevitably stopped caring and screamed out for help.

Eventually, a servant came asking Prince William to go and turn his attention to the palace. Confused, he complied while Doris covered herself up to the best of her ability and made her way to the palace. Though, she had to hide in rose bushes.

Part 1: Main Theme of Her Unwanted Mate on the Throne

Main theme of Her Unwanted Mate on the Throne

This novel is bold in what it wants to portray. A fancy environment, yet the status of a peasant sets the tone for the early portions of Doris’ point of view. The romance in this novel is different in the sense that it offers male love interests that are highly possessive and somewhat dehumanizing. This was evident in the scene of Prince William forcing himself on Doris.

Erotic scenes within this novel really define it. They’re emotional, thrilling, intense, and oddly satisfying while being entirely disturbing at the same time. BDSM being a tag alongside this series did initially disturb me, though it wasn’t obnoxious to the point of plaguing the novel entirely.

Though these weird tropes within this series add to the later parts when the tone gets lighter, the seemingly weak female lead gets more open about who she is and what her opinions are. Admittedly, there is a sweet side to this highly intense and dark-toned series which I really appreciate the more we get off.

The story was overall beyond satisfactory when it progressed. Going deeper into these chapters, we get to this point of stagnation where you don’t really feel like the story progresses at all. It rinses and repeats this same cycle of erotic tension, and it works the first few times though we crave something more.

Paired with the pacing was Doris’ inability to make a proper decision at the right time, reading onward was truly frustrating.

While I really despised this repetition, honestly it adds an extra layer of satisfaction to when Doris and her lover open up to each other in a saner manner (a scene you’d have to dig for yourself).

Part 2: All About Her Unwanted Mate on the Throne You Don’t Know

Her Unwanted Mate on the ThroneRedefining Love

The series does one thing well, which is portraying a realistic segmentation of how love actually is. We’re bound to this concept through other novels that love is something fuzzy, something wholesome that comes without much of any issues. That it’s an upward hill that gets better and better.

This novel strikes you in the head for being dumb enough to comply with that belief. Love is a bittersweet thing that has, at times, more negative factors than positive ones. Despite her being treated like utter garbage and being degraded in some of the worst possible ways, Doris learns to accept what love is from the person she truly loves, and this came with its own fair share of difficulties.

Outlining realism like this is hard to pull off or even understand in any novel, though this one, in particular, spoke to me with how it was unique and different from the rest. You love characters, you hate characters, you appreciate characters, and you blame characters. This is all just a result of realistic love.

Part 3: Conclusive Remarks on Her Unwanted Mate on the Throne

This novel is a dark and realistic piece of art. Reading it left me with some slight unsatisfactory moments, alongside a plethora of moments that make me happy, enlighten me, and as the reader, you feel complete as you read more and more chapters of the story (ones that progress the story, at least).

The ending was a little bit rushed overall though that is inevitably for you to judge, getting to the point of the ending was a little slow though there are countless elements to this novel to just take a moment to appreciate.

The writing is also quite above the standard set by novels of this category. They really fit the mood and overall tone of the series, a picture is almost always displayed in your head as to what’s going on and the novel feels quite descriptive in a general sense.

Dory’s flawed character adds to the series as a positive, the frustrations and the satisfactions you feel while reading the story do not compare to any other. Go read Her Unwanted Mate on the Throne, it is a great experience!
