A sad Ilana stares at the divorce papers in front of her. Her husband already signed his name and is urging her to do so as well. The woman’s eyes fill with tears as she asks Thaddeus whether his grandfather knows about his decision.

Cassius wondered whether to answer Thaddeus’s call or not. Evadne didn’t hesitate and answered for him, putting the phone on speaker. Thaddeus’s rough voice asked for his wife and Evadne immediately corrected him by saying she’s no longer his spouse.
The man’s voice changed, he got one answer he was looking for. The woman was with Cassius. He scolded her for embarrassing his family and seeking a man before the divorce was over but Evadne laughed. After all, he brought his mistress to their home before she even left the mansion.
Not wanting to argue anymore, Thaddeus got to the main reason why he called his wife. Grandfather Thomas was in the hospital and he was asking for Evadne. Since the old man was the only one who kindly treated her during her marriage, she agreed to go see him.
Arriving at the hospital, Gordon couldn’t help praising Evadne. She looked beautiful and elegant, she wore high heels and make up and she seemed confident. The woman couldn’t help herself but make a small joke about how the divorce had that positive effect on her.
Thaddeus didn’t like her comment at all but he couldn’t take his eyes off his wife, who looked stunning. As they bickered about their marriage, Acacia comes, demanding to accompany Thaddeus in his grandfather’s room.
Just as she was about to grab the man’s hand, the doctor came and told them that Thomas has asked to be visited by his grandson and granddaughter-in-law solely, leaving Acacia filled with anger.

Evadne, or Ilana as Thaddeus knew her, is exposed from the first chapter as being the heiress of a billionaire family who actually doted on her. The fact that our heroine suddenly goes from rags to riches will put her and Thaddeus on an equal level of battle.
He doesn’t love her, she doesn’t need him. Well, at least that is how they think in the beginning of the novel. It’s interesting to watch how Thaddeus is continuously searching for Evadne, not knowing that she is actually his wife, Ilana.
His chase is alluring, yet funny, as Evadne plays a dangerous game with an irritable, powerful man. When he catches her in the lie, things won’t be pretty.
