Esper Harem in the Apocalypse explores second chances and inspiring people. Rudy, a top student with top marks, desired the highest-paying career to help his family and give his loving girlfriend a spectacular wedding.
He is crippled by a truck at 23. He would die alone in a hospital. He breaks up with his 5-year girlfriend for her own benefit, his friends stop visiting, and his family gives up more and more comforts to pay his medical expenditures. I sympathized with Rudy at this time.
A strange man offers Rudy a Gene Experiment to reclaim his life, promising his family a hefty amount if he dies. Rudy could not dispute this, and all trials failed on him, yet he survived with no sense of smell or sight and heightened pain receptors. He was pity-killed by the experimenters. Despite being blind, he slept in the woodland and watched the stars. He resurrects in high school and finds his Esper powers.

Part 1: Main Theme of Esper Harem in the Apocalypse
Esper’s Harem in the Apocalypse is interesting in the sense that it takes its time with each and every chapter. Rudy discovers things alongside us and then evolves as a person alongside us. We empathize with Rudy and learn with him, observing that he grows newer personality traits, and we also observe the perplexions of his new world.
It undertakes the themes of Action, Comedy, Harem, Romance, and Apocalypse as well. All of these genres are beautifully represented in the entirety of the series, and I loved the way the author, NoWoRRyMaN, did its execution.
The setting is a post-apocalyptic world in which bio-gene experiments have been conducted on animals and then later on humans in order to amplify their abilities. An interesting plot point was how it initially did not work on humans but after a little bit of altering to their DNA, it did.
I found it rather intense that the government was pressuring the release of these bio-gene serums which didn’t allow for checks pertaining to side effects or delayed reactions. Everything was going well for the military until one day, one of the test subjects started behaving in a weird manner and had his skin turn pale.
He then started to eat the flesh of an inmate. After their separation, the inmate started to act the same as the test subject.
Scientists later found out that while they intended for the serum to boost their immune system, it diminished it, and the genes had their own system of functioning. It was later discovered that when one of these infected beings ate another one of their kind, they would be restored and maintain superpowers!
The initial test subject, however, had evolved and was able to control genes. He reinfected the recovered people and then spread them around the world, starting a major apocalypse in the new world Rudy was in. The evolved superhuman and all the infected people eventually disappeared after three years of havoc. The world continued as normal and Rudy had only received this news a bit after going to his new world, isn’t this sense of discovery amazing?
Part 2: Characters of Esper Harem in the Apocalypse
Characters of Esper Harem in the Apocalypse
Rudy, perhaps one of the coolest characters in web novel history, is one that I must appreciate from the bottom of my heart. While this is still a harem novel, it is rare to see a male protagonist that still has a deeply caring heart for every one of his love interests, friends, and family.
Rudy is the kind of man that never strays from his core values. He always acts in accordance with his convictions and doesn’t give a damn about the consequences. He has a strong attitude and is not afraid to take on any task, even in his human form. Even with all these abilities, he treats his closest friends and family with respect and humility. He occasionally gets playful and starts making fun of them.
Rudy also has a talent for eliminating his opponents in the most horrible manner imaginable to subject them to the greatest amount of suffering. Rudy, on the other hand, does not like to harm or murder others, and unless forced to, he will not carry out such behavior.
He also has numerous powers which progressively spice up the plot as you read along, each power has at least some sort of meaning and impact with some even being there for comedic relief. The execution of the revelation of Rudy’s powers always has this awesome sense of mystery and discovery.
If this isn’t the perfect example of a noble yet realistically brutal main character, I would not know what else is. The harem aspect of this series is handled rather well, which is rare. Each love interest that gets added to the harem has at least something going on for her that makes you root for them and this creates conflicts in the mind of the reader as to who the best girl is.
Most of them have interesting personalities, and the author is aware of how to manipulate their personalities to the interests of the reader.
Part 3: What I love About Esper Harem in the Apocalypse
What I love About Esper Harem in the Apocalypse
I simply cannot get enough of the plot twists and mysteries within this world. The very first shocker, the thing that hooked me was in chapter 12. When Rudy finds out that the world, he is in isn’t the same one as before, but a post-apocalyptic world, I was awestruck.
The way the author categorizes and transitions into every moment is perfect. The phrases used, the tone, and the sensations I get are all mesmerizingly amazing.
Each chapter hooks you back in for more, you feel enveloped in this immersive world that the author beautifully wrote solely for our and their enjoyment. The characters each have a fulfilling personality and you can’t help but love or hate them. There’s always some level of involvement with the reader.
Part 4: Conclusive Remarks
Esper Harem in the Apocalypse is one of those stories which you can’t get enough of. Each chapter is detailed, full of development, full of discoveries, and especially full of passion, which I deem to be the most important thing.
I came into the novel expecting it to be a stereotypical journey back in time and save your destiny type scenario, though I was left almost as shocked as Rudy was when he discovered that was nothing close to the case.
Some may or may not enjoy the VERY slow pacing, though I did. I hate how most series are unable to fulfill their potential by trying to get to the meat and potatoes of the series way too quickly.
The author understood that this type of series needs time, and he took it. Esper Harem in the Apocalypse is an experience, one that I wish I could take back and go through all over again. I highly recommend you give it a read.
