Emperor’s Domination pushes the reader into its first mundane and slow-paced chapter. Li Qiye was a young boy from a family of peasants with the family name Li. He was named Li Qiye in consideration of the fact that he cried for seven days and seven nights after birth. At the age of seven, he became a shepherd.

In the present day, he had found that his leading sheep was missing after completing his daily tasks and eventually arrived at the conclusion that it could only be in the Immortal Demon Grotto, which is a rather weird conclusion. Li Qiye was motivated despite there being no reported cases of people coming back from the cave since Zhang Du (the sheep’s owner) was cruel enough to ruin Li Qiye.

Approaching the cave, Li Qiye’s body disappeared into the night followed by his screams that echoed. Though, those screams came to an end eventually.

Described as an unknown amount of time later, a menacing voice exclaimed in excitement as to how their ‘Immortal Dark Crow’ was finally complete. It was only missing a soul, and Li Qiye’s soul was used to fill that gap. The voice then commanded the Immortal Dark Crow to fly and find the forbidden burials, and that they would be united one day again.

Millions of years passed, and Li Qiye’s body, which was floating in a river, was dragged out by an old man. After millions of years of Li Qiye being forced to fly around as a crow with no will, he was back in his own body. The old man from the Cleansing Incense Ancient Sect, Old Devil, had saved him. Li Qiye, after realizing that the Cleansing Incense Ancient Sect had declined severely, had realized his mission.

Part 1: Understanding and Criticizing the Introduction to Emperor’s Domination

Li Qiye Asking to be made Prime Disciple

Emperor’s Domination is a story that was heavily defined by the general outline of its introduction. Li Qiye’s soul being taken in the Immortal Demon Grotto and put into that of the Immortal Dark crow resulted in millions of years of sealed memories being within Li Qiye. He had a further understanding of the world, and an unbeatable resolve after experiencing freedom after so long.

Though, there are shallow bits to the introduction as well. From a critical standpoint, it is rather shallow for Li Qiye to go into a cave that was literally named after immortal demons in fear of a few whips by Zhang Du. They were described as enough to tatter his body, though this is still an inculcation of an awful lot of convenience.

However, it is still appreciable that from millions of years of exploration, Li Qiye gained an insurmountable sense of wisdom. This was an instance of character development that makes sense, was well-executed, and clicked with me. There is an observable difference in how Li Qiye acts before and after being imprisoned, and none of his development was out of place by any means.

Part 2: The Main Theme of Emperor’s Domination

Li Qiye in Combat

Emperor’s Domination is a highly variable novel in the sense that it explores a plethora of genres that define its story. Though, we can narrow them down to just a few. A very prominent one is the concept of adventure in this novel.

This is accompanied by the excellent worldbuilding within the story, which inputs images into the reader’s mind as to what the world looks like. In just the process of Li Qiye attempting to become the sect’s prime disciple, much was presented to us in pertinence to the world.

The action genre is great as well, and this was displayed particularly well in the process of Li Qiye going through the Chaotic Heart Forest with relative ease.

The amplification of the action is mostly attributed to Li Qiye’s character just being very cool and likable, it truly is the selling point of the series. The Chinese terminologies, cultural concepts, and settings are evident through and through. They can be quite interesting at times as well.

Dramatic situations and a harem are also a part of the story, though these portions get expressed quite late into the novel when they do happen, they can twist around our expectations of the story’s nature greatly.

Part 3: The Best Element of Emperor’s Domination

Li Qiye boasting his Stick

Emperor’s Domination would undoubtedly be a plain story without the presence of one character, Li Qiye. His very presence is enlightenment to the reader since he just seems to attract attention and interesting events.

He is, by far, the most developed character in the novel and displays it with his increasing talent, skill, ability, and interesting personality.

His daringness to become the Prime Disciple of a declining sect despite having a mortal body no different than any of the commoners outside, and his mocking of the sect that considered him a foreign danger. These two situations made me realize just how beautiful his character is.

However, sometimes his development gets carried away as observable in the later chapters, and his arrogance makes him rather unlikeable.

Part 4: Conclusive Remarks

The Princess Finishing Things Off

Emperor’s Domination is a story that has many layers of effort, culture, and pride put into it – perhaps a little too much at times!

The translation and writing quality did do justice to the original work of the original author. The worldbuilding was especially well done as a product of this and at times, I could even feel that the original work was elevated to various extents.

There are plainer moments in the novel that can dilute the experience, though a quick recovering factor to this is the excellence of Li Qiye’s character. It is a classic case of having an overpowered, cunning, and interesting main character and honestly, you can never truly go wrong with that.

However, in the later chapters, his arrogant nature gets repulsive to various extents which you may feel as well. It is also quite unnatural for there to be minimal suspicions as to how a 13-year-old knows so much about the world. The enemies in the novel also have some of the blandest and most generic personalities that you cannot distinguish without their names.

The overall story was displayed well and had few elements lacking in it at the beginning other than the shallow buildup to the Immortal Demon Grotto. It can be thoroughly enjoyable for those willing to experience cultural representation in novels to the fullest extent and is a great read overall.
