George was a lonely man who lived alone in an old house he’d bought only because it was all he could afford.
Real estate is expensive in the city where he lived in America. He was so lonely and having a work-at-home job didn’t help his case at all, neither did the fact that he was introverted, and the covid’19 lockdown in 2020 was a death sentence to any semblance of social life.
Nothing had changed in the old house since it was built. No renovations or repainting. He had a serious feeling that the last people who’d lived there before he’d bought it, were the owners and people from their lineage.
Even though nothing much had changed in the building, a few had changed in the furnishings. Most of the properties had been removed, the couches were still in place in the sitting room downstairs, and some wallpapers were still on the wall.

Part 1: Storyline of Flowers From 1970
But most importantly, the old telephone remained. George had returned to his house one afternoon and was whirling away his time when the old telephone rang.
It was strange for the telephone to ring since George had no use for it. Neither was he paying for the services, cos, he lived in 2020 where there were smartphones, computers, GPS, internet, and whatnot. After recovering from the shock of it, he went over and took the call.
Alas, the caller had dialed what George felt was the wrong number. He was talking about how a governor had died and had mentioned someone named Sap. George informed the caller about the number is wrong, but the caller stayed on the line.
He realized that the governor in question had died many years ago in 1970, why then was this caller talking about it as if the governor just died today?
George told the caller that the governor’s deputy had survived an assassination attempt the next day after the governor’s death, the caller couldn’t believe it cos he claimed everybody loved the man and allowed George to listen to an ongoing speech from the deputy governor.
George was amazed, cos it was impossible. The man called back the following day, while George was trying to explain everything away as a bad, bad dream. It happened that what George had said about the assassination attempt had happened.
The two men realized that something strange had happened. They were talking, breaching a fifty years old gap. One from the past and the other from the future.
They became friends. George could never be able to successfully call the man in the past, the telephone could only receive the call from the past. Both George and his caller grew very fond of each other, both having a lot in common.
Both were lonely and twenty-four years old in their separate timelines. The caller – Dream – insisted that George never google him or try to find his old self in his time. George valued his friendship with Dream and promised not to look for him.
The dream still lived in the same house in 1970 where George was presently living in 2020. He began to send George gifts in 1970. First, he wrote ‘hi,’ on the wall and George saw it at his end – old, scratchy but this present on the wall.
Then, he made a handprint with paint, and George saw it at his end, on the wall – old, scratchy but still present. Then, he began to send him things in a time capsule… so did he, until he sent him flowers from 1970.
Part 2: Main Characters of Flowers From 1970
George, the protagonist of flowers from 1970 is a handsome twenty-four years old man. He was lonely and introverted. I won’t call him crazy cos I didn’t perceive him as such in the novel. But how else do we explain a person receiving calls from 1970 and literally falling in love with this stranger from the past?
In my opinion, I think both he and the caller who identified himself as Dream, were two crazy people in different time frames. But then, how do we explain the leap and lapse in time? No amount of crazy could explain it, should in case it happened to be true.
But George treasured his rare experience.
Part 3: Hot Chapters from Flowers From 1970
Flowers from 1970 Chapter 1.4:
George had grown so fond of Dream that now he eats his dinner close to the phone in anticipation of his call. The feeling was mutual, even Dream began to be envious of the times George spent away from the phone.
On this occasion, Dream called and as they discussed, and their feelings grew for each other, Dream thought up something and asked George to go by the wall and watch.
George watched as a print from a painted hand began to appear on his wall. It was old and scratchy, but it appeared slowly bit by bit. He caught himself placing his hand on it, Dream would feel his hand at his end.
Flowers from 1970 Chapter 1.5:
The two men found other ways to communicate. Dream sent him his first gift in a time capsule. He buried it deep in the backyard and told George to go dig it up. George threw every logic in the wind, he went into the backyard and began to dig.
Just when he was about to give up, he saw the shining edge of an object. He dug it up and excitedly ran into the house. He opened the rusted cover to find things from 1970 that had aged with time but were still there. The dream also sent him a picture of himself.
Flowers from 1970 is an incredible fantasy novel, the storyline is almost too good to be true.
