If you love fairies and medieval ages I’m sure you would love Beyond The Highland Mist. Beyond The Highland Mist is the first series of the highlander romance. The storyline of this book was about a fairy, Adrienne who has been transported magically from modern-day Seattle to sixteenth-century Scotland where she is forced to marry.

Hawk is fascinated by the outspoken and opinionated female unlike any he’s met before. The plot of Beyond The Highland Mist comes with lots of elements. It was like a fairytale for adults where you would encounter fantastic creatures such as pirates, knights, and of course, highlanders.

The reason why I picked Beyond The Highland Mist is its setting. The timeline of the novel’s story was set in a medieval era. I love the medieval era plus the fantasy elements, magics, and actions packed with it, these are basically the reasons why I was enticed by this book.

Yet, let’s see if Beyond The Highland Mist will really transport us back to a romantic world of the middle ages.

Part 1: Plot Summary of Beyond The Highland Mist

Beyond The Highland Mist Plot

What did you wish for, Grimm?”A slow smile slid over Grimm’s face. A lass who doesn’t want you. A lovely, nay, an earth-shatteringly beautiful one, with wit and wisdom to boot. One with a perfect face and a perfect body, and a perfect ‘no’ on her perfect lips for you, my oh-so-perfect friend. And I also wished to be allowed to watch the battle.”

In Beyond The Highland Mist, the lives of two young people named Hawk and Adrienne are being played with by the King and Queen of the Fae realm with the assistance of the Fool. Adrienne was teleported to the 16th century and Scotland from the 20th century and New Orleans.

She is compelled to wed Hawk there, a womanizer who doesn’t actually want to wed her. Adriene has just been in a traumatizing relationship, and after being deceived, she vows to never fall for a beautiful man.

While Hawk of Beyond The Highland Mist is a 16th-century manwhore. Women love him due to his legendary prowess in the bedroom and also for his rock-hard abs and other physical attributes. He’s handsome but hasn’t found love yet.

Grimm, his best buddy, makes a wish to the stars that his friend will meet the ideal woman who doesn’t like him. The wish then becomes true when Hawk and Adriene meet.

Part 2: Main Protagonists of Beyond The Highland Mists

Adriene De Simone

Beyond The Highland Mist Adriene

Adriene is the female protagonist of Beyond The Highland Mist. She is a fiery soul from the 20th century. She finds herself going across time to Scotland in the 16th century. Her time-traveling trip is the result of the cunning Adam Black, also known as Puck for those who have read Shakespeare but are known by many other names in folklore.

Adriene is sick and tired of beautiful men. For her, an angelic face isn’t trustworthy.

But then her world was rocked when she became a pawn by the fairies.

As Adrienne turns into a chess piece for the Faey, her entire world is about to change. She then becomes a tool in their plan to destroy the man they despise. The worst thing is that even though there were many attractive men around at the time, she is going to meet the most attractive one of them all, there in the 16th century in Scotland.

I like the character-building of Adriene here in Beyond The Highland Mist. I like the concept built around her like she’s exactly the karma that Hawk needed. Here we got a male lead who’s too confident of himself, only to be shattered by a woman whose perspective was completely different from the women of his time.

James Douglas a.k.a Hawk

Beyond The Highland Mist Hawk

I would say we have a male lead here in Beyond The Highland Mist whose physical appearance was overly done. Women will go to any lengths even kill to get into the bed of James Douglas, a well-known man of beauty. Men both revere and despise him due to his renowned prowess and virility.

People see him as that but they never see that he’s a real guy with a brave heart, a love for his country, and an ambition to find the ideal partner and start a family.

He is unaware that his famed bed making abilities are about to turn him into an adversary of the Faey. The Hawk’s declaration that “there is no lady I cannot have” will soon be put to the test. I find Hawk’s character unique for a male lead, although the concept of him was honestly funny for me. I imagine in him a manga character I read before who’s too confident in his face.

But then when I began reading the novel, Beyond The Highland Mist, I found him sexy, and the show and tell about his character was all too sexy. Hawk was presented with genuine sensuality and his sexiness was like jumping off the pages and slamming you in the face.

Part 3: Plot Review of Beyond The Highland Mist

Beyond The Highland Mist Book Cover

For me Beyond The Highland Mist is like a fairy tale for the adult version. Reading its premise, that’s the kind of vibes I get, and the element of time travel was just added to it, to add some uniqueness. Yet, nevertheless, I could say that Beyond The Highland Mist did not disappoint me.

Beyond The Highland Mist is a great tale of a love that transcends time.

The connection between Hawk and Adrienne is absolutely hot; Hawk’s tenacity in getting Adrienne to love him was really written beautifully. Beyond The Highland Mist is hilariously amusing, intriguing, smart, and enjoyable characters.

Part 4: Recommending A Similar Book To Beyond The Highland Mist

Beyond The Highland Mist Similar Book

If you like the concept of Hawk’s character in Beyond The Highland Mist, I think you will love Alpha Damien too. They are the same. Hot.

Sexy. Women’s trap, yet waiting for true love. I found a gem novel that is similar to Beyond The Highland Mist. Although this isn’t a time travel novel, they are the same slow-burn romance, hate-to-love relationship, and the character building of the male lead is the same as Beyond The Highland Mist.

Alpha Damien’s Concubine tells about an alpha male who had been longing to find his true mate. When he sees her in an auction, he buys her and brings her home to his pack. Yet, no matter how he wanted her to be his Luna, he can’t because the reigning Luna threatens him to expose his secret.

What I like most about Alpha Damien’s Concubine is that the characters here come with a revelation. They aren’t what you see at first.
