Sex is thrilling, it is a spectrum of its own. One where two people can find release in a fun and enjoyable activity. But, sometimes the sex we crave is something more destructive.
How addictive can hate be? That is the question.
Sophie and Weston answer this particular question in their hate relationship with each other. But, then we have family drama. Chaotic, next-level family drama. How do two people get past decades of enemy boundaries set by their families and work together on a new venture?
It’s not impossible. However, how does one ignore sexual tension that goes deeper than the grand canyon and finds a way to get work done? Maybe being nice to one another would help. *Spoiler alert, it didn’t.
It’s all hate and competition until someone catches feelings.

Part 1: Plot Summary of The Rivals

Sophia has to work with an unlikable douchebag, and she doesn’t know how to cope. She has sorely undermined my her father and half-brother whom she regards as a puppet. Add this to suddenly being put in a line if work where assholes abound, and she couldn’t be any more stressed. However, she sure knows how to deal with stress. And Weston is more than happy to help her out.
Suddenly their lives begin to intersect unlike ever before, and they clearly see each other. Weston knows what Sophia wants. Sophia starts to understand that Weston is not just a jerk, that he has scars, some of them literal. Between the two of them, there’s a balance that subtly draws attention. Their dynamic is obvious in the first quarter of their story.

Chapter Two
Sophia is off to a meeting with the hotel’s lawyer and meets Weston in the elevator. She is unhappy with his presence, but nothing she can do about it.
Surprisingly, Weston informs her that the meeting venue had been changed earlier. Sophia hurries out of the elevator and races to the new venue. However, it’s a surprise to find that she had wasted her time. Weston tricked her and she fell for it.
Coming face to face with his unapologetic smirk, Sophia expresses her annoyance at his joke. But, the next thing he does is ask her to dinner. Unsurprisingly, Sophia declines.
Her day further worsens when she is told that her ex-boyfriend cheated on her for months, with her cousin. Annoyed and stressed, Sophia went to the hotel bar and got several drinks. Weston appeared and one thing led to another, she slept with him. *And boy did she enjoy it.
Chapter Ten
We find out a little more about Weston, and how his life isn’t all perfect as Sophia probably thinks.
Weston goes to his sponsor’s nursing home and gets some good conversation in. He subsequently goes to an AA meeting as hinted by his sponsor, Mr. Thorne.
Later on, he meets up with Sophia, and while they discuss work, her phone rings. Surprisingly, it’s her ex, Liam. Sophia refuses the call several times and then gives it over to Weston at his request. In a very final way, Weston tells Liam that he should bug off.
Chapter Sixteen
The two enemies and work rivals take things to the next level. That is, not just sex. Unprotected sex.
This level of trust and intimacy far exceeds the expectations Sophia would have thought likely at the beginning of their working relations. Both of them are more open and vulnerable than ever before in front of each other. This results in something pretty explosive.
The Rivals is a great novel for a night alive with a bottle of wine.
