Part 1: The Main Story of We Shouldn’t

We Shouldn't Bennett Fox

Bennett Fox is doing his morning jogging before going to his office, when he notices a gorgeous blonde woman, with killer legs leaning over his car. Apparently, her hair was stuck in his windshield.

The woman seemed nervous and was trying to untangle herself, but, instead of trying to gently pull her hair out, she yanked it hard. And that seemed to work fine, except for the fact that she also ripped off the windshield.

The blonde woman hid the object under her coat and left a note under the other windshield. Bennett, watched the entire scene unfold under his eyes, and, only when the girl left, he went to check out the piece of paper she left behind. Apparently, it wasn’t an apology note, the woman had the nerve to leave her parking ticket there!

At the office, there was a huge fuss, as the Foster Burnett Company was merging with Wren Company. Bennett now had competition for his creative director position. To his surprise, his competitor was none other than Annalise, the blonde girl who vandalized his car in the morning.

A fierce competition ensues between the two of them, as there could only remain one creative director in this building, while the other would be relocated to Dallas. In order to decide which one gets to stay in the city, their boss, Jonas, urges them to make three major client pitches. The fastest employee wins the competition.

Both Bennett and Annalise will use the oldest tricks in the book to prevent the other one from winning, creating funny and entertaining scenes. While quarreling, they will realize that they are also drawn to each other.

Annalise believes that Bennett is a womanizer, while the man thinks the girl is sassy. Their road to a normal relationship is rocky, and its destination is unknown. Will they be mere co-workers or get romantically involved with one another?

We Shouldn’t Chapter 9

This chapter is told from Bennett’s point of view.

After only two shots, Annalise was already drunk and Bennett enjoyed seeing her all bubbly. Her idea of naming the drink ‘Me So Honey’ was great, except that it was already taken. After hearing that Annalise has never tried ‘Menage a Trois drink, Bennet is honest and tells her that he considers her uptight.

The girl resents the idea, so the man screws with her further by asking her if she ever had ménage a trois. After taking one more shot, Annalise confesses that she was once dumped for refusing to swing.

After one more look at her, Bennett tells her he would never share his woman, and the girl laughs is off, telling him he should date her because that will make him want to date other women. The man considers her invitation as an admission of her being lousy in bed and joins her laugh. He even agrees with her saying that men are lousy human beings.

Not resisting the curiosity, Bennett finally asks her whether she is bad in bed or not. Annalise laughs again and admits that she was told she was actually pretty good in that department.

After this statement, the man needed to refresh himself, as his interest in her was increasing exponentially. Trying to get back to the main topic for their brainstorming, Annalise springs a hard question on Bennett about what men actually mean when they ask for a break from their relationship.

The man is being straight and honest and tells the woman that her boyfriend is trying to have fun with other girls while keeping her a spare.

Finishing their work, Annalise gets up and intentionally lets Bennett have a glimpse at her cleavage and lacy bra, which makes the man fantasize about the woman. Upon leaving, she is aware that he stares at her behind and calls him on it, visibly amused.

We Shouldn’t Chapter 10

We Shouldn't Annalise O'Neil

This chapter is narrated from Annalise’s point of view.

Annalise wakes up thinking about Andrew. He liked going to the gym daily, at six o’clock in the morning. For the past few months, they barely spoke to each other, so she misses him and decides to go see him.

She arrives at the gym and starts running on the treadmill, hoping that he shows up. To her surprise, he comes in later than usual and he is accompanied by another woman. They exchange a few words and Annalise pretends to be in a hurry and storms off.

At the office, Bennett invites her to have lunch together. Both of them agree to order in, and the man persuades the girl to place the order herself, as he dated the girl who works at Santorini Place and she might spit in his lunch if she knew that he would be the one eating.

The girl rolls her eyes but agrees with his request.

Back to work, the woman was distracted, so Bennett tries to snap her out of it. Eventually, Annalise confesses that she had a tough morning and, when her phone buzzes and the name Andrew appears on her phone’s screen, the man understands the reason for her bad mood.

He decides to answer the phone for her, mocking Andrew by calling him Arthur and telling him that Annalise is busy with something. The girl is upset but allows him to do whatever he wants.

Part 3: Best Contemporary Romance Book Review: We Shouldn’t

One of the things I like most about We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland is that, even though our leading characters have instant attraction when meeting each other, there’s a rivalry between them throughout the novel. They are frenemies, they bicker, they scold each other but they also support one another when needed.

Their romantic development is sweet and entertaining, as they start off as nemesis and their relationship evolves into genuine friendship before they turn into lovers. There are many funny scenes that are a pure pleasure to read, not to mention the erotic scenes that aren’t vulgar at all. On the contrary, they are intimate and passionate, without overuse of sexual language.

I truly advocate for this book. It’s a pleasurable read that you can enjoy online, on Dreame platform.
