Part 1: Plot Summary of A Kingdom of Dreams

A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught

A Kingdom Of Dreams opens up with Jennifer. It follows her story of sudden abduction by her clan‘s enemies and the sudden pace her life takes afterward.

Spending her time at the convent, Jennifer‘s father decides to drop by to see his daughter. He tells her of her marriage prospect with an old man who is actually the head of some other clan. Jennifer is enlightened of her responsibilities and must consent in order for him to procure the needed number of troops he will use to fight “The Wolf”.

Jennifer is quite unhappy about being pushed like this into a marriage. Nevertheless, Jennifer doesn‘t refuse. Jennifer is sullen when she goes off with her stepsister on a walk. However, Jennifer and her sister are kidnapped by Stefan Westmoreland, “The Wolf‘s” brother. Quite proud of his accomplishment, he brings the girls to camp and dumps Jennifer off at Royce‘s tent. Royce is anything but pleased.

Is it all over? Will her life be this miserable mess? Jennifer doesn‘t want to be resigned to her fate. She‘s going to help herself if no one else does. In the meantime, something about the Duke is different.

Royce Westmoreland doesn‘t accept the rumors he’s heard of Jennifer Merrick. No, this woman isn‘t typical plain. Royce is taken with how wild her beauty clearly is. He admires her stubbornness even, that strong will. You‘d think he would change his mind when the woman tries to stab him, but no. Gone full circle there.

Three of these children are males, and Jennifer‘s father has the successors he needs. Family drama continues to abound, and Jennifer is engaged in a constant battle for acceptance.

She‘s unable to attain her father‘s affection properly because of this remarriage. Why? Because Jennifer‘s life couldn‘t be harder with two of these step-brothers being the devil incarnate, vile, and absolutely wicked. They badly want the position of the head of the clan, and Jennifer stands in their way.

To get rid of her, they show their mettle when they ruin her reputation with the clan people, perfectly ostracizing her in her own clan. She is sent to a convent after a failed attempt at winning against her brothers. At this convent, she gets abducted with her sister and she meets ‘The Wolf‘.

Chapter Five

After her failed attempt to escape, Jennifer is brought back and Royce doesn‘t hesitate to pass his punishment. However, this punishment is bittersweet for him when he notices her frail form, and also when she pulls a dagger on him. Royce notices that it‘s his very own dagger which she pulled out of his boots when he was preoccupied with his punishment.

Nothing can change her mind. Jenny slashes down with the dagger and Royce isn‘t quick enough to avoid it. He winds up with a gash on his jaw. One which Jennifer has to stitch with her own hands. During the process, Royce starts to notice Jennifer‘s features without the formless nun robes on her.

Chapter Six

Using her intelligence, Jennifer tricks her captors into reducing the restrictions on herself and her sister. She‘s feeling very good about this achievement, but something doesn‘t feel right. She engages with Royce in more than a couple of drinks and her wall seems to fall back a lot. They talk for a long while and emerge on the topic of kissing.

Royce basically asks Jennifer to rate his kissing skills. Jennifer is hesitant but does not refuse when he advances. The kiss starts slow, he eases her gently into it. But, in a matter of minutes, there are gasps, moans, and friction. Royce doesn‘t hold back with her cleavage. Jennifer gains some clarity and starts to speak.

They are, however, interrupted. Royce has to attend to matters, but when he returns, he promises nothing will happen again, as if in apology.

A Kingdom of Dreams is spectacular, one to immerse in, so fully that you forget what day of the week it is.
