The story starts with The Last Eligible Billionaire of the famous Rutherford family, Hayes Alexander Rutherford reaching one of his homes after a stressful couple of days, to see that there was an intruder in his house.
Of course, nobody would want to be met with such a reality so it is not news to say that Hayes Alexander Rutherford was taken aback by the knowledge of the presence of someone else in his house.
The house was messy, to start with, and from the look of things, whoever this intruder was, was not just a flighty intruder, but an intruder that was there to stay. Begonia Fairchild was on vacation and had rented a house that cost so cheap compared to the features that the house had to offer.
She should have thought that it was too good to be true when she stood face to face with a Rutherford son, and elder brother of her long-time crush. It turned out to be a swoony and adventurous time spent in Hayes Alexander Rutherfords’ mansion while she stayed on her vacation.

Part 1: Storyline of The Last Eligible Billionaire
It was such a sight of confusion and awkwardness when Hayes Alexander Rutherford followed the messy trailing that the intruder had left behind, to find her in his bathrobe, in his bathroom. Both of them thought that they were burglars.
Hayes Alexander was wearing a tuxedo and looked pretty formal, but it did not stop Begonia Fairchild from thinking that he was a creepy burglar. A back-and-forth ensued between them. Who are you, what are you doing here? This is my house and all whatnot, while Begonia kept on shouting the word Marshmallow.
After inquiring, Hayes Alexander Rutherford came to understand that Marshmallow was Begonia’s dog, and she was calling on the dog for protection. Eventually, Begonia told Hayes Alexander Rutherford how she ended up in his house.
She had booked a rental online, and it happened to be his house. Although, she did not believe him quite yet. But, if Begonia didn’t believe that she was an intruder, she had to have had her doubts cleared when Hayes told her to cover up. She was naked when he saw her.
The bathrobe that she had on had slid open and exposed her vital parts to Hayes, but Hayes Alexander Rutherford was not interested in seeing her naked at all and asked her to cover up immediately.
When he introduced himself as the owner of the house, it took so much for Begonia to believe him until he made her look at a family photo that had been in the house closely, and then she spotted him.
What ticked Begonia off was that he was the brother of her crush. The Rutherford family was popular for a TV series, and literally, every young girl drooled over Hayes Alexander Rutherford’s brother.
The Last Eligible Billionaire, Hayes Alexander Rutherford was overdue to get married, and because of this, he was a target in every gathering he attended. It didn’t matter if it was a family gathering or a regular social gathering, Hayes Alexander Rutherford was always met with people harassing him with new females every time in a bid to match-make him with them.
This had been Hayes Alexander Ruthefords life for a long time. So, as a result of this, he saw an opportunity with Begonia. Instead of him asking her to leave, and all that not, he decided to strike a deal with her. She would act as his woman, and as a result, help him to repel every lady and spinster that his family and friends brought forward to him to force him to get married.
Begonia could not only blame herself for getting into this mess, but she had to blame Marshmallow too. Marshmallow broke an expensive artifact in Hayes Alexander Rutherford’s house, and Begonia Fairchild had to pay for it as was the agreement in the contract when she signed the rent. Since she could not afford it, Hayes Alexander Rutherford asked her to play according to his wants.
Part 2: Main Characters of The Last Eligible Billionaire
Begonia Fairchild
The lead female of The Last Eligible Billionaire Book, Begonia Fairchild happened to have innocently booked an apartment online for a vacation. If only she knew that the home she had booked actively belonged to the family of a certain former childhood crush of hers.
In this way, Begonia Fairchild met with a Rutherford for the first time, although, she happened to meet the crankiest member of the family and not her childhood crush who starred in a popular TV series.
Following the turn of events, and the way everything took her by surprise, Begonia Fairchild found herself in the middle of Hayes Alexander Rutherfords’ storm, helping him to ward off intrusive match-makers, and women that were interested in getting married to him since he was under pressure to get married.
Hayes Alexander Rutherford
Hayes Alexander Rutherford was a stoic and unavailable man. He was emotionless, cold, and distant, just as Begonia had explained to him in the introductory part of the book.
He was under pressure to get himself attached to a woman by his family and friends, and so when he met the intruder that was Begonia Fairchild in his house, he made her pay for her debt by asking her to act as his woman so that she could keep the intrusive acts of his friends and family away as much as she could.
