Betrayal was the order of the day in The Gilded Cage Book. Chu Ning, the crowned princess, faced what one can only describe as a dilemma in this adventurous book.

After her father, the minister had been disgraced, stripped of his portfolio, and killed for allegedly killing the Emperor, Chu Ning was supposed to face the law as well following her father’s supposed crime. But the crowned prince, whom she had been given off to get married to pitied her, and made their marriage legal in order to prevent Chu Ning from facing disgrace.

Chu Ning’s father had obviously been set up, and Chu Ning knew it, but what she didn’t know was that while she was looking in other directions, and suspecting other people of being responsible for killing her father, the culprit, the one that had planned and executed his plans was the very man that came running to save her, the crowned prince.

Part 1: Main Story of The Gilded Cage

The Gilded Cage Book

The crux of the matter in The Gilded Cage Book was that there was a struggle for who would become the emperor of the kingdom. The emperor died. This emperor that died was the same one that they accused Chu Ning’s father of killing. As a result of his death, the struggle for the throne of the emperor started in full force.

The emperor’s son, the crowned prince, who doubled as Chu Ning’s husband wanted to become the emperor. Also, the sixth uncle of the crowned prince, Xiao Kezhi, the prince of Qin, had eyes on the throne as well, and as soon as the emperor died, with the help of the empress, he took over the throne as the emperor, winning his crowned-prince nephew at war.

The Gilded Cage Book describes the wrath of Xiao Kezhi as a very terrifying one. He was described as a ruthless man. As soon as the emperor died, he eliminated all the allies of the crowned prince and took over the throne.

It was only because of a slight reason that he had left the crowned prince to live, and that reason had nothing to do with the fact that the crowned prince was his nephew, no! It was because of Chu Ning. Xiao Kezhi had spotted Chu Ning and took a liking for her, so he spared the life of the crowned prince because of her.

But it was done with an intention to spite the crowned prince, more than any other intention one could possibly think of.

Xiao Kezhi had spent a long time living at the edge of town, so he was ruthless to the core. There was something that the crowned prince did to Chu Ning that was remarkable in The Gilded Cage Book. He told her to step down from being his wife. The reason he did so was that he wanted to become more powerful.

Read the book to figure out how and why the crowned prince would become more powerful as a result of Chu Ning stepping down from being his wife. The fact that Chu Ning was no longer the wife of the crowned prince made her exposed to the kingdom.

Remember that she was the daughter of a disgraced minister, and it was the crowned prince that saved her from death by agreeing to a nuptial agreement with her, so now that he had denounced her as his wife, Chu Ning had to run away to a temple. Read similar book

In the course of The Gilded Cage Book, it was stated that because of the crowned prince’s eagerness to be the emperor, he killed his father. Yes, he killed his father, and because Chu Ning’s father was always one around the emperor, he planted proof in such a way that all fingers pointed at Chu Ning’s father for having been the murderer and so the man was slain.

Be it in a bid to cover his tracks, or out of genuine pity for Chu Ning when she was going to be punished as a result of her father’s crime, the crowned prince officially married her. After all, they were somewhat engaged or betrothed in the first place.

The beginning of the book starts with the crowned prince deep in sleep with Chu Ning watching over him, only for him to wake up and hear that his territory had been surrounded by his uncle, Xiao Kezhi’s army. Along the line, the crowned prince was forced to yield to his uncle, as Xiao Kezhi, the prince of Qin had already defeated all the allies that belonged to the crowned prince.

It was a shocker to everyone when Chu Ning, after running away to the Tao temple, suddenly came back to the kingdom with her head held high. She came confronting the crowned prince, who had denounced her and gotten married to another lady.

It was Xiao Kezhi’s influence. He had taken a liking to Chu Ning, and not that he had fought his way into becoming the emperor, Chu Ning had returned to become untouchable, even more than before.
