Brave New World Chapter 9
Making love in the new world
Rani was feeling nervous and asked Samir if he was sure he wanted to do this. They were both squatting on the same fiber bed they had managed to take from the cube. They also got some time on implant kits and documentation scrolls.
Samir was certain he wanted to do it, or else he would feel sorry for not even trying. He took the sharp tip of the cone from the timon implant kit and put it against the side of his head. Since they were both very tired, when they got to sleep, they would be able to fully enter the consciousness of their second selves. They would actually get to the new world.
The boy pressed his thumb on the blue dot glowing in the center of the cone’s base. He became aware of a new presence inside himself as if another soul had entered his body. He was having a double existence.
Rani moved closer to Samir and put the tip of a cone to the side of her head while professing her love for Samir. They got to the new world and felt their bodies in both places. Tired, they decided to sleep.
Rani and Samir lay on the grass and hugged each other while taking in the view. After a little while, they started kissing. Rani wondered if they could feel the same pleasures as they felt back home. The boy was determined to find out, so he kissed her further and deeper.
Brave New World Chapter 15
Invasion begins
Kirk Lander’s California home was replicated quite faithfully at one of the staff rooms in the US building in New York. Thirty soldiers and policemen formed two lines of a row of fiber beds. One line held Timon implant kits.
The other line’s young men wore disposable cellulose gowns. A doctor and a paramedic were present, as well as Carlton Brock. Lander began to hold a speech for the young men who were about to enter the new world. They needed to help secure a bright and wonderful future for all survivors.
Carlton Brock started whispering that Odongo wasn’t supposed to learn about this new plan. He needed to be left out.
All around the world people were deciding what to restore in the new world. In Japan, people vowed to restore the Black Dragon society. The Germans wanted to recreate the famous Hanseatic League.
In every country in the world, governments tried to locate and isolate the glowing cubes. There were too many of them, so they couldn’t be able to intercept them all and hide the cubes from the public eye.
Part 3: Adventure/ Fantasy Book Review: The Brave New World
It’s true that the book is indeed a complex read, as it switches between multiple points of view, but it’s entertaining and once you get familiar with all characters, it becomes easy to follow the story.
I have to admit that I enjoyed the fact that the book brought forward many aspects of modern society. The financial struggles people face, the greed for power, and the unfairness are recurrent aspects of the novel.
Even though the New World is supposed to be Utopia, not everyone is granted access so the book also brings forwards the inequality that is also very much present in real life. The author has transmigrated some of our mundane issues into his story, creating an adventurous narrative with different character typologies.
I truly recommend reading this book, it’s a good read that will keep you interested from the beginning until the end. A big plus is that you can find the first 140 chapters free.
