Ascension of a Gamma starts out in a haze, confusing the reader as to what the situation really is. Though, this added to the realism of the beginning chapters, since we get an extra layer of suspense and thrill.
The prologue feels unclear as if it was an old memory and I think that was what the author intended. The story starts off with Anna who seems to be running away, on the verge of becoming a rogue. However, her Alpha stops her and reveals to her that she was going to be the future Luna of her pack.
However, it is hinted that Anna was running away since she disappointed her pack in a way that initially came across as a mystery though this was made clear in future chapters. A few wholesome exchanges lead the reader to believe that something positive was going to happen, though the author silently smirks at us while darkening the tone.
Rogues close in on the two. Alpha Fraser and Aiden’s (Anna’s father) minds is linked to getting a hold of a situation.
This was followed by Aiden’s plea to bring his daughter back home safely, to which Fraser gave an affirmative response. A series of events eventually leads to both Alpha Fraser and Aiden on the ground, bleeding while the enemy’s boss approached. They were coordinated, and the boss gave off the aura of an Alpha.
While Anna desperately tries to heal the fallen wolves with her blood, the rogues surround them and the boss approaches. Alpha Fraser takes Anna and runs, while the image of her father being sliced in the throat gets embedded into Anna’s memories. The prologue cuts off with Anna and Fraser locking eyes for one last wish, followed by him going to the enemy to distract them.

Part 1: Relentless Intensity on Ascension of a Gamma
As if the perfect writing of the author wasn’t enough to proliferate this intense feeling inside us, the following chapter gives us a peak into the miserable life of Anna three years past the nightmare-inducing events in the beginning.
She was not only reduced to living a life of rags, but she was also responsible for cooking the meals of her pack while having the Omegas collect them. In the process, they’d insult her first followed by another series of insults when they would drop back the dirty dishes. One day seemed to be a special occasion with numerous packs visiting.
Alpha Flynn came into Anna’s room, commanding her to eat in a very dictator-like tone. Following this very disturbing scene with an odd level of intensity, Flynn declared to Anna that today was the day he’d find out who his mate was, and that his Luna was to be given the same level of respect as he was.
Anna agreed. Anna heard noises relevant to the celebration of Flynn’s twentieth birthday, though she wasn’t invited, sad.
Flynn comes back in with an iconic and slightly cliche scene questioning why it had to be Anna. He approaches Anna, rejects her as his mate, and physically abuses her until she accepts his rejection. After she was barely able to blurt out the words, she was left unconscious in a state of bleeding.
Part 2: The Intensity of Ascension of a Gamma
The author of this novel is incredibly talented in numerous aspects of writing and one thing that I am OBLIGATED to mention is how intense the writer is able to make scenes.
This perfect execution of inculcating an intense moment is attributed to the perfect situations being set. We were oblivious to what exactly was going on at the very beginning of the novel, though that added this inexplicable level of intensity to the moments we experienced. Once we actually find out the background, and the roots within that scene, we get another moment of intensity.
There’s always a set tone for each scene, everything is defined. When Alpha Flynn made his first appearance, we got no proper introduction to him. All we knew was that he was the pack’s alpha and that he was to be respected. The scene was made intense through his use of singular words, “Eat,” and “Sit.”
The main contribution to the perfect level of intensity is the writer’s flawless writing.
Part 3: This Writing is Amazingon Ascension of a Gamma
There is no doubt in my mind when I say that the author produces an exceptional example of near-perfect writing. Every adjective feels like it belongs there, every tense is flawlessly utilized, every sentence brings something new to the reader and every dialogue carries a certain amount of weight.
The way the author phrases this novel will make you click with it. The author literally forms a relationship with the reader through the way they write. Every scene is perfectly described and the best way to quantify good writing is whether you get an image of what happens from the novel in your head. That is exactly what you would experience here.
When you read through, you feel like you’re reading a comic book or watching a movie at 24 frames per second.
What I say has no exaggeration in it, the writing in this novel is a spectacle. A picturesque phenomenon. The words manipulate the reader’s emotions by elaborating upon every action, and every dialogue of the character in such a perfect and descriptive manner that I have no words.
Part 4: Conclusive Remarks
This is a masterpiece. Clear and cut. There is nothing more to it. Ascension of a Gamma is an adventure, a political adventure, an emotional adventure, an action-packed adventure, a literary adventure, and an ADVENTUROUS adventure!
I found that there were only very minuscule if no negative things about this novel and you will feel this too. Most things were done in a unique fashion and even the click moments felt completely refreshing.
I could almost guarantee that you won’t sleep for nights after reading the very first chapter of this novel, after going through different POVs of different interesting characters. Nothing distracts you from this masterpiece, be it a funeral or the end of the world.
Kudos to Caine Cassan, the author, for making this beautiful piece of art.
