Pain had taken the better part of the life of Sebastian Romano after he lost his wife and his unborn child in an accident, and thus became The Broken One. As would most men do until a miracle happens, Sebastian Romano shut out feeling any emotions, especially romantic ones.
He was faced with business, and business alone, and no matter what his brothers tried to do to bring him back around, it did not work. While Sebastian Roman was going through this long phase of his life that he had been faced with for five years and counting, a parallel bleep was being formed somewhere else. A little girl named Ava lived with her mother. Ava was adopted by Heather Ellis, and Heather Ellis loved and was attached to Ava from the bottom of her heart. She could do anything for Ava, including the not-so-reasonable things.

Part 1: Main Story of The Broken One
Who would send out a search party, or a public notice that anyone who finds a stuffed animal should return it and might face a reward? Well, Heather Allis did it for her adopted daughter, Ava. Ava was losing her mind that she had lost her stuffed wolf.
She was attached to it as it was said to have been given by someone dear to her. How could she afford to lose it? It was so intense that Ava would not accept any other stuffed animal, no matter what anyone told her.
She wanted her stuffed wolf, and she must have it back. Heather had to agree with her, after all, Heather agreed with her in nearly everything that Ava said, and so she sprung into action to look for the stuffed wolf.
Coincidentally, The Broken One, Sebastian Romano, had come across the stuffed wolf, close to his office. Or his house? Well, he had the stuffed wolf, and no matter how much he wanted to dispose of it, he just could not. Something was preventing him from doing so, a force that he could not explain was pulling him.
It went on like this until he came across the notice of the stuffed wolf, and the writer of the notice asked for it to be returned. That was the beginning of a new romantic experience for The Broken One, Sebastian Romano.
When Sebastian Romano went to return the stuffed wolf, Heather saw him, and at once she could see the hollow that his soul carried. She saw the pain that his eyes fought to yell at everyone, and, oh, she heard the screaming in his eyes loudly and clearly. Also, Sebastian Romano felt the warmth that Ava gave to him for returning her stuffed animal to her.
What are the odds that anyone would pick up such a toy that could easily be disposed of, and hold on to it until he found the owner? Ava adored Sebastian as a result of this rare move that he made.
Read the book to see if the closed-off Sebastian Romano allowed this lady and her adopted daughter to lead him to a new place, a new apex where he would forget about his past trauma, and start to build a new life of happiness.
Part 2: Main Characters of The Broken One
Sebastian Romano
Sebastian Romano is The Broken One in this contemporary romance piece of literature. He lost his immediate family in an accident. His wife died with their unborn child, and since then his life had never been the same again.
He took a downward spiral that made him blind to love and romance. He was just flat-out no longer interested, and he carried an air of pain and suffering with him wherever he went. He came across an unlikely experience that changed the course of his life for as long as he was willing to allow it.
Handsome, yet fragile as a result of his loss, he was drawn to Heather Ellis through the most mundane way that anyone could ever meet a love interest.
Heather Ellis
Heather Ellis to the rescue of The Broken One. Did she have a savior spirit or what? I am saying this because she saved Ava from wherever she had adopted her from. Most likely an orphanage, and further down, she had met Sebastian and reached out to him because she could see and feel the pain he carried.
Heather Ellis had to be some sort of angel especially because of the length she went in making sure that Ava got her stuffed wolf back. Who would have gone that far? No one, to be honest.
Part 3: About The Author Of The Broken One
According to Wikipedia, Ruth Cardello was the youngest of eleven children born to Joseph and Francois Labrecque in Woonsocket, RI.
She has worked as Kindergarten and English as a Second Language teacher for 20 years before becoming a full-time writer. She currently resides in Massachusetts with her husband and three children. Ruthe Cardello has a series of books written by her, almost too numerous to mention.
She has been awarded the NY Times and USA Today bestselling author, and I doubt she won’t achieve more awards soon as her books are worth the read. Read Ruth Cardello’s books.
Part 4: Evaluate The Broken One
The Broken One is a nice story of a man getting back in touch with the richness of life. It’s sad to lose your loved ones, and even sadder when you lose a pregnant wife. Sebastian Romano, The Broken One, was shattered beyond all reasonable doubt to the extent that he could not make a comeback from the grief that he faced as a result of him losing his wife and unborn child.
It is an emotional story that triggers a depth of emotional response in any reader that picks up this book. Although, I don’t think it is realistic that someone would pick up a stuffed animal from a random place and hold on to it for as long as Sebastian did. Is it possible?
Something like that would mostly get ignored, however, the author does a bright job of narrating her story via that very unlikely event. After all, it is fiction, and fiction dwells on imagination, so I would not hold it against the author for being unrealistic. The book is an eight out of ten in my opinion.
