This whimsical romance comedy novel won The Ripped Bodice Awards for Excellence in Romantic Fiction in the same year. Written in the Stars was also featured in various American periodicals such as O, the Oprah Magazine for being one of the best LGBTQ Books of 2020.

Apparently, this heartfelt read was given another recognition, the Lambda Literary Award for Best Lesbian Romance last 2021.

Bellefleur’s droll and shrewd banter was one of the reasons her debut novel, Written in the Stars became a hit to all readers around the globe. A feel-good sapphic story that revolved around two modern women with different beliefs and life points of view.

Darcy and Elle started out with a not-so-good impression of each other. Yet, there was inexplicable chemistry between them that could not be denied by anyone. The two eventually worked together and walked through the path of pretending in front of so many people, including Elle’s family.

Even though Written in the Stars has overly used romcom elements which are the opposite do attract and fake commitment scenarios, the author strategically sprinkled new twists on every part of the chapters that readers would find fresh and engaging.

Amidst their conflicting personalities, Darcy is a Capricorn sun while Elle is a Pisces sun, the two got a strange connection causing them to collide in an unexpected journey of love and self-discovery.

Written in the Stars Book- Part 1 Background and Characters

Darcy Lowell is a young professional who works for an insurance company and just broke up with her soon-to-be bride whom she caught cheating. She was tired of being matched through blind dates which are totally her brother, Brendon’s idea.

While on the other hand, there goes, Elle Jones, an astrologer in her 20’s running Oh My Stars with her friend, Margo on social media platforms such as Twitter and IG. However, in spite of her fame online, her family was not supporting her career choice, knowing that she dropped out of grad school to pursue what she loves.

When Brendon launched OTP (One True Pairing) where he asked Elle and Margo to work with him and add some astrological algorithms to the dating app so it could be more catchy. When he found out that Elle has the same sexuality as his sister, he did not hesitate to introduce Darcy to Elle.

Given that Darcy was no longer interested in entering romantic relationships and promised herself to focus on climbing her career ladder, she was not attracted to Elle at first.

And so the same feeling with Elle, even though she was a go-getter girl and a bit of a hopeless romantic person she never thought of committing with a woman like Darcy. However, although the two felt a noteworthy spark that night they preferred to just shake it off.

Instead, Darcy proposed a plan to Elle which is to play pretend and get into a fake relationship. Knowing that she was fed up with all the blind dates that she had, she thought of acting as if the search is over so her brother, Brendon would stop pestering her.

Of course, Elle would not say yes without her condition which is to accompany her to every family gathering that she had to attend during all the holidays throughout the year.

She only had to make her family believe that she was a responsible adult opposite to what they are thinking about her. In the Westlife written in the stars, their life was about to change in the most unexpected way.

Part 2: The Ending and Author’s Thoughts on Written in the Stars

Written in the Stars - Part 2 The Most Exciting Plot

From the night when Elle spilled the bottle of wine on Darcy by accident, the two became inseparable. It was evident how the disastrous first date pointed them to a different spectrum.

They anticipated how difficult their fake relationship could be, yet their expectation turned out to be wrong. The moments of being together only caused them to enjoy each other’s company not only because it was out of following their plan but because it was something inwardly impelled.

The fake-dating thing went on until the two finally found love in the most surprising way. Written in the Stars promised such bold realizations to the readers, most especially when the main characters opened up the truth about their preferences and life decisions in general. It might be a bumpy ride for Elle and Darcy but it was all worth it.

The holidays had a great part in their relationship development. Basically, as the chapters pushed through in Written in the Stars, Elle and Darcy went closer while acting naturally in front of their families.

The Thanksgiving dinner which was celebrated with Elle’s family was a significant one. Noted that the story ended up right before Christmas arrived and finally abandoned their plan right without waiting until New Year’s eve.

A free-spirited woman and a focus-driven one, two gorgeous ladies in one romantic encounter and I could not blame people for giving positive feedback on this masterpiece. There was a whole lot of excitement and hot delicious moments that made it more enticing.

Yet, as I came to the last page I only realized one thing, that everything will fall into place if you are finally with the right person.

Part 3: Ending to Written In The Stars Summary

Written In The Stars - Summary

Written In The Stars is a must-read for those who are searching for a light yet intriguing story. This is not your ordinary LGBTQ+ book, a great addition to your shelf plus it would surely make your heart full, with a bunch of delight.

Fauxmance novels like this one are one of the best tropes when it comes to romcom. I would like to commend the author for including astronomy in the book. This made me enjoy it a lot. You can also check out Tinie Tempah Written In the Stars to start a bookish playlist.
