The beginning of this beauty was one of the weakest points for me, it did not start off in a manner that was appreciable whatsoever. Information on top of information, zoning out during my read was nothing uncommon.
Though essentially, the story starts off with Seleste stating that she’s the future Gamma, a skilled one that was born as a protector and accepted the responsibility at a young age. She’s highly skilled, capable, and diverse in the sense that she both learns and teaches self-defense to younger pups.
She’s capable of beating the future Alpha in combat which creates some conflict, though she loses a fair bit against the Beta. Seleste belongs to a warrior pack, one that is highly capable in combat. The Moon Goddess has an extended lore behind this pack.
Seleste avoided the challenges of Beta Vareen, though one day they eventually started sparring with one another. It was a rough start, considering Seleste was hesitant after beating Trevor beforehand and getting things complicated as a result. Though, the way this scene was displayed, it kind of just felt like Seleste trying to inculcate to the reader that she’s strong, without really doing anything to prove it.
Seleste wins, which wasn’t exactly ordinary but not uncommon either. After her win, numerous people cheered her on including her friends and family. It feels almost as if the female hasn’t faced many losses in life or was just too blessed. This makes it hard to relate to her character or like her that much.

Part 1: An Interesting Chapter on Rejected Protector
A couple of chapters in, we get ‘The Incident.’
This chapter gives us some insight into what Trevor and Celeste’s relationship is like and what happened to it. Seleste and Trevor were essentially childhood friends for 16 years. They were very close, though one day Trevor challenged Seleste to a sparring match.
According to Celeste’s mother, the men of the pack have inflated egos that can shatter when they’re brought to their place. Her mother was stronger than her father and most likely the Alpha as well, though she just hid it. Seleste was going to let Trevor win the duel as well, though things changed, and she ended up winning.
Following this loss, Trevor tells Seleste to cut off pretty much all contact with him and to forget whatever they had. This creates the primary conflict in the novel that defines the rest of its romance element. The following chapter has the perspective of Trevor, and we get more accustomed to his character.
Part 2: Main Theme of Rejected Protector
Rejected Protector, well, undertakes and fleshes out the concept of rejection in a very interesting way. It falls out of the criteria that I consider cliche. The overall plot is enticing, especially when it’s all properly developed.
I initially went into this novel thinking it was about a strong female character that weakens herself trying to gain the acceptance of the person who openly rejects her, though I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with that not being the case.
The strength that Seleste displays is also a selling point of the series, it’s just plain cool. That is all I can say about her character. Her emotions are more or less stoic, though having a strong female lead does properly justify that.
Part 3: Stagnancy in Rejected Protector
The beginning, I must say, was very weak. Every sentence felt forced upon the reader and was plainly forgettable. While I did eventually get hooked on the series a little later on, the initial view I had of Seleste was a spoiled brat that had everything. Not a good first impression despite this not really being the case.
Though, it was STATED to the reader what the characters did and were capable of instead of it being SHOWN to the reader through action, through something more enticing that the reader can appreciate. There were extended explanations as to what the Moon Goddess had done with the first six werewolves ever, this was initially interesting.
Though, going so far in depth with them so as to explain each and every detail about their offspring really had me zoning out.
Celeste also just boldly told the reader that she was strong and capable, though it would have been much better to just have displayed this trait of hers through action.
However, this isn’t a recurring problem. The later chapters eliminate the problem of overall stagnancy and become very intense indeed.
Part 4: Conclusive Remarks on Rejected Protector
Rejected Protector is a novel of many forths, with slight backs. You can tell that the author had this certain amount of passion that went into their work. They are a fan of the genre, they are a fan of the concept, they are a fan of their very own work which is what I love and appreciate the most about novels.
Despite its awfully slow and thorny start, it gets better and better as you read. It develops its characters, fleshes them out, and gives them motives and backgrounds that you simply fall in love with. You love characters, you hate characters, you want some characters to be shown more, and you want some characters to fall flat on the ground. This novel emotionally invests you in itself.
